Richmond took home top team honors and Presbyterian's Maiken Bing Paulsen claimed individual medalist honors on Tuesday as play concluded at the 2017 Bill Berg Invitational. Western Carolina came home 11th at its home tournament at The Ridges Country Club.

Freshman Hazel Martin sits in a four-way tie for 13th to lead the Western Carolina women's golf team to 11th-place after two rounds at its home tournament, the 2017 Bill Berg Invitational. Richmond advanced one spot in the second round, moving atop the team leader board with a one-stroke lead over second-place Samford into Tuesday's final round at The Ridges Country Club.



Catamount Women's Golf to Host Second Annual Bill Berg Invitational

A combined 15 teams and 84 total golfers converge on The Ridges Country Club in Hayesville, N.C., this weekend as Western Carolina women's golf hosts the second-annual Bill Berg Invitational. Vying for both team and individual titles, the 54-hole tournament includes two rounds on Monday and the final round Tuesday with shotgun starts for each.

Western Carolina freshman Hazel Martin posted a career-best finish, placing tied for 17th overall to lead the Catamounts to a 11th-place showing at the Starmount Forest Fall Classic which concluded Tuesday at the Starmount Forest Country Club. Martin shot 4-over par, 76, in the final round for a three-round total of 228, the best 54-hole score of her young collegiate career.

Ninth after the opening round on Monday, the Western Carolina women's golf team sits in 10th-place overall with 18 holes to play at the Starmount Forest Fall Classic, hosted by Southern Conference rival, UNCG. WCU turned in rounds of 317 and 332 for a 36-hole score of 649.

Western Carolina women's golf returns to action this weekend in the Piedmont Triad of North Carolina as the squad plays in the Starmount Forest Fall Classic, hosted by UNCG at the par-72, 6,186-yard Starmount Forest Country Club in Greensboro. The event is scheduled Oct. 2-3, with the Catamounts making their first appearance at the fall tournament since 2013 -- a fourth-place team showing.
