The No. 24 USD baseball team (27-11, 13-5) hosts UC Irvine Tuesday evening at 6:00 p.m. at Fowler Park. USD is trying to avoid their first three game losing streak of the season.



Toreros rally falls short in 12-8 loss to BYU

The No. 19 Toreros’ (27-11, 13-5) rally fell short against BYU (22-14, 11-4) Saturday afternoon as USD lost 12-8 to the Cougars. After falling behind 6-0 in the second inning, USD scored eight unanswered runs to take the lead only to see the Cougars post their second six run inning of the game in the seventh inning on their way to a 12-8 win to take the series.



Toreros lose wild one, fall to BYU 9-8 in extra innings

The game, which has the feeling of postseason baseball, lasted four hours and 20 minutes, featured 32 combined hits and 29 runners left on base. The Toreros held leads of 6-1 and 7-3, but the Cougars rallied to tie the game at 7-7 in the top of the eighth. USD responded and took a one-run lead in the bottom of the eighth only to see the Cougars respond again and send the game to extra innings.



Toreros take game one, beat BYU 6-3

The No. 19 USD baseball team (27-9, 13-3) knocked off BYU 6-3 to win their season-high seventh game in a row Thursday evening at Fowler Park. Nick Sprengel was spectacular, pitching eight shutout innings of five hit ball while striking out seven batters. Roman Garcia and Brhet Bewley each had two RBI.



Toreros host BYU with first place on the line

The No. 19 USD baseball team (26-9) beat No. 8 Cal State Fullerton (23-12) 11-6 Tuesday evening at the Lake Elsinore Diamond to extend their winning streak to a season-high six games. The Toreros jumped out to an 8-0 lead after two innings and never looked back; all nine Toreros recorded at least one hit.

After going a perfect 4-0 last week, the Toreros are ranked as high as No. 19 (Collegiate Baseball) in the nation. They rose to No. 24 in the USA Today Coaches Poll, remained at No. 25 in the D1Baseball.com Top 25 and are receiving votes in the Perfect Game Top 25. USD enters the week with the best RPI in the WCC, coming in at No. 43.

Riley Adams named WCC Player of the Week

Riley Adams was named the Rawlings WCC Player of the Week, the conference office announced Monday morning. Adams hit .500 (6-for-12) with three home runs, two doubles, five walks, six runs and 10 RBI to help the Toreros go a perfect 4-0 last week.



Torero baseball makes wish come true

Jake Hernandez fulfilled his wish through the Make-A-Wish foundation Saturday afternoon by throwing out the ceremonial first pitch before the Torero baseball team took on the Pacific Tigers.



Riley Adams powers Toreros to series sweep

Behind six RBI from Riley Adams, the No. 25 USD baseball team (25-9, 12-3) knocked off Pacific 10-4 to complete the series sweep Saturday afternoon at Fowler Park. With the Toreros trailing 4-1, Adams hit an opposite field grand slam to give USD the lead. He would hit a two-run homer later in the game to finish the game with six RBI, the highest for a Torero this season. Paul Richan improved to 4-0, giving up just one earned run over seven solid innings.



Murphy leads Toreros to 1-0 win over Pacific

The No. 25 USD baseball team (24-9, 11-3) earned their first shutout of the season, beating Pacific 1-0 Friday evening at Fowler Park. Chris Murphy and Troy Conyers combined for the shutout, allowing five combined hits and striking out 11. Hunter Mercado-Hood supplied the offense, knocking in Paul Kunst in the fifth inning with an RBI double. Kevin Collard was a perfect 4-for-4.

The No. 25 USD baseball team (23-9, 10-3) knocked off Pacific 9-5 in the first game of their three game series Thursday evening at Fowler Park. The Toreros scored three runs in each of the first three innings on their way to improving to 10-3 in conference, which puts them in a tie for first with LMU.

The No. 25 Torero baseball team (22-9) cruised to a 14-1 victory at UC Riverside (12-16) Tuesday evening. The Toreros jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the first inning and never looked back. CJ Burdick had his best outing of the year, tossing five shutout innings of one-hit ball. The Toreros tallied 16 hits, with 10 players collecting at least one on their way to 14 runs, which tied a season-high.
