Despite outhitting their opponent by one, 15-14, the Rebels were unable to overcome a trio of three-run home runs by the Highlanders en route to a loss in the opener of the two-game, midweek series.

The Titans jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the opening inning and never looked back as their pitching staff only allowed one Rebel to reach third base in the ball game.

The Rebels were led by five innings of shutout pitching from Garrett Poole as well as an offensive combination of seven RBI, five hits and four runs from Nick Ames and Justin Jones.

UNLV overwhelmed the Mavericks early with an offensive onslaught that featured 10 runs off of nine hits through the first two innings. In all, the Scarlet & Gray scattered 21 hits that, in turn, produced 20 runs -- 19 of which were batted in.
