HOUSTON – Senior Micaela Bouter closed out competition at the 2017 FINA World Championships in Budapest, Hungary with a pair of top-30 finishes in the 3-meter springboard and 3-meter synchro. The South Africa native and defending American Athletic Conference Champion in the 3-meter springboard finished 30th in the same event with an overall score of 231.4. The senior’s best dive came in the second round, when Bouter completed an inward 2 ½ somersault for 54 points.Three days prior, Bouter competed in the 3-meter synchro alongside fellow South African and Arkansas Razorback Nicole Gillis. The duo finished 14th in the preliminaries after performing an inward 2 ½ somersault for a score of 56.70.“Micaela performed a solid dive in the second round,” said diving Coach Bob Gunter. “It started with one of the better hurdles of the day which helped her get the somersault moving well enough to allow her to finish with enough time for a vertical entry.”Bouter is coming off of a stellar junior season where she was an integral part of a Houston Swimming and Diving team that picked up its first American Athletic Conference Championship in program history. The then-junior earned several major awards which include the AAC Female Scholar Athlete of the Year, Most Outstanding Diver, and Arthur Ashe Jr. Sports Scholar – First Team selection.
