The Navy water polo team completed its 2016 season on Sunday with a 16-13 loss to Wagner in the fifth place game of the Mid-Atlantic Water Polo Championship. After the sixth-seeded Mids (8-18) attained an early lead in the first quarter, a 7-2 run of play by the fifth-seeded Seahawks (10-20) over an 11-minute span to close the first half was the difference-maker as Wagner withstood numerous Navy comeback attempts in the second half.

Navy Defeats Mercyhurst in MAWPC Second Round Game

The Navy water polo team used a strong showing by its power play and bench units to come from behind on Saturday afternoon and defeat Mercyhurst, 12-8 in a second round game as part of the Mid-Atlantic Water Polo Conference tournament. Down 4-0 after one quarter, the Mids (8-17) tied up the game in the second period with three man-up goals before pulling away from the Lakers (13-13) in the fourth quarter. David Huber (Sr., Fort Washington, Pa.) led the Mids’ offensive effort with five goals.

Navy Drops MAWPC First Round Match to Johns Hopkins

The Navy water polo team fell in its first round matchup versus Johns Hopkins in the Mid-Atlantic Water Polo Conference Championship tournament on Friday night by a score of 17-9. Playing at Bucknell’s Kinney Natatorium, the sixth-seeded Mids (7-17) were defeated by the third-seeded Blue Jays (5-17) who used a fast start in the first quarter to hold a wire-to-wire lead on their way to the win. In the loss, junior Jared Castillo recorded a team-high three goals to lead Navy.

Huber Named to All-MAWPC Second Team

The Mid-Atlantic Water Polo Conference in conjunction with the Collegiate Water Polo Association announced late Thursday its 2016 All-League Team. The Navy Midshipmen were represented by senior center David Huber as a one of seven honorees named to the All-MAWPC Second Team.

Watch | The Navy water polo team begins play at the inaugural Mid-Atlantic Water Polo Championship tournament on Friday as the program looks to earn the league’s automatic bid into the NCAA Championship. Hosted by Bucknell in Lewisburg, Pa. at the Bison’s Kinney Natatorium, eight teams will vie for the chance to be the first-ever champion of the newly formed conference. The action will run over three days beginning on Friday, Nov. 18 and culminating on Sunday, Nov. 20.

The Mids (6-15, 1-7 MAWPC) will look to avenge a pair of earlier losses to Johns Hopkins (3-15, 3-4 MAWPC) and No. 18 George Washington (12-9, 7-1 MAWPC) on Saturday in front of their home crowd. The Mids and Blue Jays are slated for a 2 p.m. start time, while the Mids welcome the Colonials for a 7 p.m. matchup. Saturday’s doubleheader will also mark the final home contests for Navy’s six-man senior class.

The Navy water polo team fell in a road contest on Saturday afternoon at George Washington by a score of 15-7. A strong start to the game by the host Colonials (11-9, 6-1 MAWPC) saw the Mids (6-15, 1-7 MAWPC) fall behind by an eight-goal margin at halftime and find that it would be too much of a deficit to overcome in the second half of play at George Washington's Smith Center Pool. The Navy water polo team will turn its attention back to Mid-Athletic Water Polo Conference action this Saturday with a road bout against No. 17 George Washington. The Mids (6-14, 1-6 MAWPC) will look to improve its placement in the league standings and the subsequent seeding for November’s conference tournament. The Mids and Colonials (10-9, 5-1 MAWPC) will face off at the Smith Center Pool at 3:00 p.m. on Saturday afternoon. Both teams are coming off a weekend of play in California at the Bronco Rodeo Tournament.
