Playing as part of an expansive 15-team, four-day tournament, the Mids (6-14) closed out play with an 8-6 loss to Air Force (5-13) and an 18-12 setback against No. 20 Santa Clara (9-11).

The Navy water polo team fell in a pair of non-conference games in its first day of action at the 2016 Bronco Rodeo Tournament that is being co-hosted by Santa Clara University and San Jose State. The Mids (6-12) lost to San Jose State (5-11) in the first game of the day, 14-7 before dropping a 17-6 decision to No. 17 Cal Baptist (14-8) in the nightcap of play at West Valley Junior College’s Aquatic Center.

The four-day tournament features 15 teams from both sides of the country playing 31 games at Santa Clara University and San Jose State. After an off-weekend, the Mids (6-10) will get back into the competitive swing of things and test their prowess against a quartet of top west coast squads in San Jose State, Cal Baptist, Air Force and Santa Clara.

The Navy water polo team fell on the road on Sunday in a non-conference match to the 13th-ranked Princeton Tigers by a score of 12-7. A slow start proved problematic for the Mids (6-10) as the Tigers (13-6) jumped out to a 4-1 lead in the first quarter and a 9-4 advantage at halftime on their way to the victory in a matchup of former CWPA Southern Division rivals.

Watch (Wagner) | Early season Mid-Atlantic Water Polo action continues for the Navy Water Polo team this weekend with a Sunday doubleheader versus Wagner and Fordham in a rematch of games from last Sunday in Annapolis. Navy turned in a 1-1 record versus the New York City pair with 13-7 victory over Wagner and a 14-13 overtime setback against Fordham. The Mids and Seahawks will face off on Sunday, Oct. 2 in Staten Island at 11 a.m. before heading across town for a 4 p.m. matchup in the Bronx versus the Rams.

The Navy water polo team went 1-1 on Sunday in a pair of Mid-Atlantic Water Polo Conference contests at home in Scott Natatorium. The Mids (6-6, 1-3 MAWPC) secured a 13-7 victory over the Seahawks of Wagner (3-10, 0-3 MAWPC) in the morning before coming back in the afternoon and battling with the Fordham Rams (5-5, 2-1 MAWPC) over 38 minutes of tight, overtime action. The Rams pulled out the 14-13 win in extra time over the Mids.

The Navy water polo team lost its Mid-Atlantic Water Polo Conference season opener on Friday night on the road to Johns Hopkins, 14-8. The Mids (5-4, 0-1 MAWPC) fell behind early by three goals in the first quarter and were unable to come back against the Blue Jays (1-7, 1-0 MAWPC) in their home pool in Baltimore. Taylor Peterson (Sr., Rancho Santa Margarita, Calif.), Matt Skowronski (Jr., Oak Hill, Va.) and Nik Galvan (Fr., Henderson, Nev.) all recorded two goals for Navy in the setback.

The Navy water polo team begins a stretch of seven straight Mid-Atlantic Water Polo Conference games over three weeks with a four-match slate of matches this weekend starting on Friday night at Johns Hopkins. Coming off a 5-3 run of non-conference play, the Mids (5-3) will head to Baltimore to take on the Blue Jays (0-7) at 8 p.m. On Saturday, a single bout between Navy and No. 13 Bucknell (6-1) is set for the Mids’ Scott Natatorium at 8 p.m. before a home doubleheader on Sunday featuring the Wagner Seahawks (3-7) at 9 a.m. and Fordham Rams (2-4) at 2 p.m. closes out the weekend.
