Navy Finishes Second at All-Academy Gymnastics Championship

One of the most competitive and closest All-Academy Championships in recent history was held on Saturday in San Antonio. The three-team showdown between the service academies was decided by a total of 4.3 points between the first place Air Force Falcons (403.85) and the third place Army Black Knights (399.55). Navy ended up in second place with a score of 400.2. The competition was part of the San Antonio Invitational and held at the Concepcion Sports Complex.

2018 All-Academy Gymnastics Championship Up Next for Navy

One week after an emphatic Star Meet victory over Army at home, the No. 9 Navy gymnastics team will test itself on the road at the 2018 All-Academy Championship on Saturday afternoon. Taking place as part of the San Antonio Gymnastics Invitational, the three-way meet between service academy rivals promises to be a tight competition as Air Force comes into the meet ranked 11th, while Army sits 14th. The action at the Mission Concepcion Sports Complex is slated to begin at 2 pm ET (1 pm-CT).

Gymnastics' Tanner West Named NAAA Athlete of the Week

In recognition of his large role in Navy's 402.9-391.7 victory over Army in the 2018 Star Meet, sophomore Tanner West was voted as the Naval Academy Athletic Association Athlete of the Week. The Texas native led the Mids with first place finishes on the rings and parallel bars, as well as fourth place results on the vault and high bar.

McVay Named ECAC Rookie of the Week

Freshman Ryan McVay earned his second straight ECAC Rookie of the Week honor on Tuesday as the conference recognized the first-year gymnast's success from this past Saturday against Army in the 2018 Star Meet. McVay competed in the all-around and helped the Mids to a dominant 402.9-391.7 victory over the Black Knights.

Gymnastics Takes Wire-to-Wire Victory over Army in Star Meet

The Navy gymnastics team had its finest showing for this 2018 season with the bright lights of the Star Meet shining down upon it on Saturday. Coming into the meet as the favorites on the basis of season average scoring, the Mids made sure there would be no deviation from that outcome or those numbers as the team posted an 11.2-point victory over Army, by a final score of 402.9-391.7. Invigorated by a boisterous standing-room only crowd at Macdonough Hall, the Mids won five of the six events had individuals finish first on five different apparatuses.

The 2018 Star Meet between the gymnastic teams from Army and Navy is set for this Saturday, February 3 at 2 p.m. at Navy's Macdonough Hall. The No. 9 Midshipmen (2-0) will look to continue its momentum from a fast start to the 2018 season versus the No. 14 Black Knights (0-2) in the annual head-to-head competition between the service academy rivals.

Mids Earn Pair of ECAC Weekly Honors

The Navy gymnastics team was recognized twice on Tuesday as the duo of Andy Jones (Sr., Reading, Mass.) and Ryan McVay (Fr., Roseville, Calif.) garnered weekly awards from the ECAC. Following strong efforts for the Mids at home on Saturday, Jan. 27, Jones was named the ECAC Specialist of the Week, while McVay earned the nod as ECAC Rookie of the Week.

Navy Gymnastics Earns Pair of Victories on Saturday

In the final tune-up before the 2018 Star Meet, the Navy gymnastics team showed strongly on Saturday in a home tri-meet versus William & Mary and Temple at Macdonough Hall. A fast start with four team event wins over the first four rotations bolstered the Mids' effort and led to an eventual 7.1-point victory. Navy (2-0) finished Saturday with 396.4 points, while William & Mary (1-1) recorded 389.3 points. A short-handed Temple (0-2) club squad notched 242.05 points.

The Navy men's gymnastics team will be in action this Saturday afternoon with a tri-meet versus William & Mary and Temple. After a fast start to their 2018 campaign with a second place finish at the West Point Open on Jan. 12 and a first place result at the Navy Open on Jan. 20, the team currently stands seventh in the nation based on scoring average. The action at Macdonough Hall begins at 2 p.m. Saturday's competition is the final for Navy before the team faces off with Army in the 2018 Star Meet on Feb. 3.

Gymnastics Cruises to 2018 Navy Open Crown

The Navy gymnastics team once again found early season success as the Mids improved on last week's 395.05-point output with 398.20 points on Saturday at the 2018 Navy Open hosted in Macdonough Hall. That strong showing helped Navy defend the team title for the fourth straight season as the hosts held off Springfield College (384.25), William & Mary (383.50) and Temple (150.30).

Youth Leads Navy Gymnastics to Standout Event Finals

The Navy gymnastics team capped a strong opening weekend of action on Saturday night in the event finals of the West Point Open as the Mids recorded 11 top-six results. One night after finishing second in the team event, Navy came back and performed at a high level again at Christl Arena. Underclassmen Tanner West (So., Cypress, Texas) and David Toussaint (Fr., Warren, Ohio) led the Mids' effort as each of the gymnasts notched two top-six podiums. West had the best individual result of the night with a victory on the vault.

Strong Effort at West Point Open Kicks off 2018 Season

The Navy men's gymnastics team opened its 2018 campaign with an emphatic performance at the 27th Annual West Point Open. Taking on a six-team field, the Mids posted a score of 395.05 to place second overall, trailing just the No. 7 Penn State Nittany Lions, who recorded a meet-high 406.85 points. A complete team effort highlighted the Mids' effort on Friday night at Christl Arena as 10 different Navy gymnasts finished amongst the top-10 on the six individual apparatuses.
