10 Heavyweight Rowers Earn IRA All-Academic Nods

The Intercollegiate Rowing Association (IRA) Board of Stewards recently announced the organization’s 2016-17 All-Academic Team. The Navy heavyweight crew program was recognized with 10 honorees on the IRA’s fifth annual installment of the academic award. May graduates Scott Gibson and Michael Pentaleri and rising seniors Charlie Linder, Nick Street and Eli Wood led the group of 10 as they each are multi-year recipients of the honor.

Heavyweight Crew Completes IRA National Championship in 13th Place

The Navy heavyweight crew program concluded its 2017 season with day three action at the IRA National Championship on Sunday. Racing in one grand final, one petite final and two third finals at Lake Natoma in Gold River, California, the Mids came away with two top-eight results and an overall team placement of 13th in the nation.

Heavyweight Crew Posts Strong Results in Day Two at IRA National Championship

The Navy heavyweight rowing team had a strong quartet of performances on Saturday at the IRA National Championships. Racing in two A/B Semifinals and two C/D Semifinals at Lake Natoma in Gold River, California, the Mids came away with three results that will have them in the higher seeded finals on Sunday. Navy’s third varsity eight crew led the way as it qualified for its class’ Grand Final. The Mids’ first and second varsity eight crews turned in quality outcomes, as well that saw them advance into C Finals for Sunday.

Heavyweight Rowing Begins Racing at IRA National Championship

The Navy heavyweight rowing team started competition at the 2017 IRA National Championship on Friday with four teams racing at Lake Natoma in Gold River, California. The Mids’ 3V8 and V4 teams headlined the program’s effort with top two results in their respective heat races. Navy’s first and second varsity boats both competed twice on Friday as the boats raced in heat and repechage events.

2017 IRA National Championships Ahead for Navy Heavyweight & Lightweight Squads

Results | The Navy heavyweight and lightweight programs from Hubbard Hall have travelled across the country to begin preparation for the 115th installment of the IRA National Championships at Lake Natoma in Gold River, California. The premier national event for men’s collegiate rowing kicks off on Friday and will run for three days. After heat and repechage racing on Friday begins the competition, semifinals are slated for Saturday before the championship finals go off on Sunday. In total, 24 programs will be contending for the heavyweight title, while 11 will race on the 2,000-meter course in search of lightweight glory.
