The Ladyjacks traveled down to Edinburg, Texas on Thursday for the evening match up against the Vaqueros. After a low scoring first quarter, the Ladyjacks found their stride overcoming an eight point deficit to take the three point lead at the half. The Vaqueros would not allow SFA much of a breather as they tied it up at 37 apiece with 5:25 left in the third, and then crushed SFA’s tournament hopes as they claimed the 62-54 game.

The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley will host the Ladyjacks in the first round of the tournament on Thursday, March 16, in Edinburg, Texas. Tip-off is set for 7:00 p.m.

The odds were stacked against SFA as they faced a team that they went 0-2 against in the regular season. The number one seed Central Arkansas Sugar Bears proved once again why they sat at the top of the Southland charts. A duel of defense versus defense pursed and after a grueling forty minutes, UCA emerged the victor, 60-35, and claimed the 2017 Southland title.

The Ladyjacks notched in their second victory of the 2017 post season after they knocked off the Lamar Cardinals after a 62-48 rout on Saturday.
Sat, 11 Mar 2017 19:28:00 EDTSaturday afternoon presented the semifinal round of the Southland Conference Tournament, pitting the Ladyjacks against the Lamar Cardinals. A second tournament double-double from redshirt junior Stevi Parker, lifts SFA over the Lamar defense. She was one of three Ladyjacks in double-digits on the afternoon. Parker posted 14 points and grabbed 13 rebounds. She went 4-9 from the field and a near perfect (5-6) at the free-throw line. Senior Taylor Ross has now totaled her sixteenth 20 or more point game of this season. She totaled 20 points, three assists, and two rebounds. Senior Adrienne Lewis had a terrific game putting up ten points and collecting seven rebounds. Sophomore Kennedy Harris and Freshman Alaysia Ready added six points each.

The Ladyjacks have one victory in the books for their 2017 post-season career after defeating McNeese on Friday afternoon. They now aim for the battle with Lamar on Saturday for a chance at the Southland Conference Championship.

The Ladyjacks took the 2-0 lead in the second minute of play and never looked back for the next 38:59 minutes when the final buzzer rang. SFA knocked off McNeese from the Southland Conference Tournament with a 77-63 win over the Cowgirls. Four Ladyjacks were in double figures this afternoon. Senior Taylor Ross totaled her fifteenth game with 20 or more points after posting 24 points, five rebounds, and four assists. She went 10-for-21 from the field and 4-for-7 at the free-throw line. Redshirt Stevi Parker had 18 points and 14 rebounds, her career 11th and season eighth double-double. Sophomore Kennedy Harris totaled 11 points, two rebounds, and a steal. Junior Taylor Jackson rounded out the Ladyjacks in double digits with 10 points and four rebounds.

The Ladyjacks pulled a 42 point second half to win 64-49, after only leading by two points at the half. Two Ladyjacks were in double figures on Saturday night. Senior Taylor Ross totaled her 14th game this season with 20 or more points. Ross posted 26 points, five assists, and five steals for the night. Sophomore Chanell Hayes totaled double-digits for the second game in a row. She had 16 points last Thursday against Northwestern State, and she posted 13 against Sam Houston. Senior Adrienne Lewis led on the boards for SFA, grabbing seven rebounds and claiming eight points. As a team, the Ladyjacks outrebounded the Bearkats 42-38. The SFA defense forced the ball over 30 times, a season-high against conference opponents. The Ladyjacks took those turnovers and converted them to 22 points on the board.
Fri, 03 Mar 2017 16:58:00 EDTThe 2017 regular season winds down to one night as arch-rival Sam Houston will be banging at the WRJ Coliseum door on Saturday. The rivalry between these two teams has been drawn over the last 45 years of competition, the second longest in program history. SFA leads the all-time series record with Sam Houston, 64-12 and is 27-5 at home against the Bearkats. Starting in 2014, SFA was on a three game win streak before the Bearkats upset the Ladyjacks in the Southland Conference Tournament in Katy, Texas, 78-70. However, the Ladyjacks got their revenge earlier this season beating Sam Houston at their home, 83-65.

Tensions were high as the Northwestern State Lady Demons came into town for the second match up between these two teams this season. The Ladyjacks might have lost the last won in over-time in Natchitoches, but this game was all SFA from the tip-off.

Tip-off is slated for 5:30 p.m. Revenge is on the line for the Ladyjacks as they lost the first game earlier in the season to Northwestern State in an overtime battle that saw the Lady Demons up by four, 76-72, at the final buzzer. The Ladyjacks had a terrific first half pulling a 13-point lead at the halftime, but Northwestern State came out determined from the locker room and overwhelmed the Ladyjacks in the second half. Senior Taylor Ross totaled 24 points that night, and sophomore Kennedy Harris had a career-high 16 points.

The Ladyjacks had two players in double-digits. Senior Taylor Ross had 19 points, three rebounds, and two steals. Redshirt junior Stevi Parker totaled 11 points on the night, grabbing a team-high six rebounds, and forcing two steals. Sophomore Chanell Hayes had the next highest points, pulling off seven. Freshman Alaysia Ready had a tremendous presence on defense and was perfect at the free-throw line, 4-4. As a team, the Sugar Bears outrebounded the Ladyjacks, 42-26. SFA shot only 37.0 percent from the field, their second lowest this season. However, the Ladyjacks success at the free-throw line kept them in the game. They shot 23-29 (79.3%) from the charity stripe.
