Sat, 03 Dec 2016 16:32:00ARLINGTON, Texas -- The Stephen F. Austin Ladyjacks matched up against the UTA Mavericks on Saturday afternoon. Senior Taylor Ross led the SFA Ladyjacks with a season high 26 points against the Mavericks. She would be the only SFA player in the double digits. She had a terrific game as she grabbed four rebounds and three steals on the afternoon. Senior Brentney Branch followed next with eight points, to of those from beyond the arch. Sophomore Kennedy Harris was hot under the rim as she grabbed eight rebounds from the board. Senior Adrienne Lewis also had a great afternoon with six points and four rebounds. She went 3-4 in the field. As a team, SFA was out rebounded by UTA 39-38, thanks to UTA's six foot five center. SFA defense continued to hold strong creating 13 steals and forcing 24 turnovers. The Ladyjacks shot 35.3% in the field and 73.5% at the line. The game was a very high intensity game throughout the last three quarters as the two teams tied the score seven different times.

Several career records were broke that night, highlighted by a tremendous rebound effort from senior Danielle Rogers, who had nine on the night. Senior Taylor Ross had 14 points and a career high 10 assists against the LSUS Pilots. Freshman Riley Harvey had another breakout game this season with a season high 11 points and eight rebounds. Redshirt junior Stevi Parker led the Ladyjacks with a total of 16 points, seven rebounds, and two assists on the night. Five different Ladyjacks contributed double figure points to the 93-56 win over LSUS.

Five Ladyjacks found themselves with double digit points after the 40 minutes of play. Junior redshirt Stevi Parker led the Ladyjacks with 16 points on the night, while senior Taylor Ross followed right behind with 14. Both senior Adrienne Lewis and senior Brentney Branch had 12 points apiece, and then freshman Riley Harvey had a terrific game sinking 11 points for SFA. Another highlight of the matchup would be the anticipated return of sophomore Chanell Hayes to the floor. She would have six points on the night, both from beyond the arch. SFA as a team was 53.7% for shots in the field and would be 13-19 at the line.

The Ladyjacks squeaked by in Fairfax, Va. with a 77-76 win, and had a double digit lead over the Coppin State Eagles, 72-57. In the Coppin State game, senior Taylor Ross had 18 points on the floor and three steals on the night. Senior Brentney Branch had 12 points, two of those three-pointers. Redshirt junior Stevi Parker led on the boards grabbing nine rebounds and had eight points on the night. The SFA defense continued their authority of the court by stealing the ball 15 times and forcing 29 turnovers.

The Ladyjacks had an impressive first and fourth quarter to win with the highest margin of victory they have had all season. SFA completed the night with two players in double digits and outrebounded the Eagles 45-43. Senior Taylor Ross led the Ladyjacks with 18 points on the floor and three steals on the night. Senior Brentney Branch had 12 points, two of those three-pointers. Redshirt junior Stevi Parker led on the boards grabbing nine rebounds and had eight points on the night. Stephen F. Austin defense stole the ball 15 times and forced the ball over 29 times.

Austin is looking forward to putting a cap on their three game road streak as they face off against the Coppin State Eagles. A fourth quarter rally for the Ladyjacks against Mason was started by senior Brentney Branch, who tied her career high record for three-pointers in a game. She sunk six shots from beyond the arch and led the team with 21 points. The game sealing basket came from a pair of free-throws by redshirt junior Stevi Parker, who has been perfect at the line in the last four games. Parker had 11 points and nine rebounds on the board. Branch and Parker, along with senior Taylor Ross and sophomore Kennedy Harris, all scored in the double digit range to bring home the win for this offensive scoring team. On the defensive side, SFA continued their authority on the court with nine steals and 23 forced turnovers on the Patriots.

Hotshot three-pointer Senior Brentney Branch had a career tying game making six shots from beyond the arch, making it a 21 point night for her. Behind Branch where three other Ladyjacks in the double digit points. Senior Taylor Ross had 14. Redshirt junior Stevi Parker had 11 points on the night and led the team with nine rebounds. Sophomore Kennedy Harris would round the double-digit scorers with 10 points and two steals. As a team, SFA created nine steals and forced 23 turnovers.

SFA is coming off a loss in College Station, after the Aggies a run for their money in the first half. The Stephen F. Austin defense forced 22 turnovers against the No. 24 Texas A&M Aggies, and had a total of 12 steals. They currently lead the Southland conference in steals with 46 so far this season (15.3 per game).

The Ladyjacks had a very physical hard fought game, but couldn't keep the momentum in the second half. Senior Taylor Ross finished the night with 17 points, two steals, and two rebounds. Following her was Redshirt junior Stevi Parker with eight points and six rebounds. Senior Adrienne Lewis would lead the Ladyjacks in rebounds, grabbing seven from the boards. The Ladyjacks as a team would tie the Aggies taking 55 shots from the field. SFA would force 22 turnovers and steal the ball 12 times, over A&M's 15 forced turnovers and only six steals. From the line, SFA would shoot 9-12 (75%) on the night.

SFA so far has a split record with a loss to South Dakota and a win at home against Oklahoma Panhandle State. Redshirt junior Stevi Parker leads the Ladyjacks with 31 points and 12 rebounds on the season. Sophomore Kennedy Harris had a terrific night against OPSU, putting up 15 points for SFA. She was part of an aggressive Ladyjacks offense that turned out four Ladyjacks in the double digits. Freshman Alaysia Ready is continuing to have a breakout year after claiming seven steals on the OPSU Aggies. As a team, the Ladyjacks forced 41 turnovers and converted them into 40 points on the board.

In the paint for the Ladyjacks, senior Adrienne Lewis would have 10 points and eight rebounds. The SFA defense showed up tonight forcing 41 turnovers, which the Ladyjacks would convert into 42 points on the board. The Ladyjacks would squeak by on rebounds, outrebounding the Aggies 35-31. From the line, SFA would be 15-26 (57.7%).

SFA had the early lead in the first quarter, but the stamina of the Coyotes would prove to win out. Four Ladyjacks would finish with double-digit points. Redshirt junior Stevi Parker would lead the team with 19 points, six rebounds, and three steals. Newcomer junior Taylor Jackson had a breakout first game for the Ladyjacks with 17 points and two assists. Senior Taylor Ross had 13 points, followed by freshman Riley Harvey with 10. The Ladyjacks would out rebound the Coyotes, 31-24. South Dakota would shoot 59.6% from the field, while the Ladyjacks only shot 38.3%. SFA was 26 for 31 from the line (83.9%).
Sat, 12 Nov 2016 15:38:00The Ladyjacks are excited about starting their second season under Head Coach Mark Kellogg. Last year, the Ladyjacks were 18-12 overall and 12-6 in conference play. Kellogg has seven returners including the SLC First Team All-Conference selection, senior guard Taylor Ross. Other returners are the sharp shooter and leading three-point scorer, senior guard Brentney Branch and the top team rebounder senior center Adrienne Lewis. Redshirt junior Stevi Parker is making her much anticipated return to the court after an injury that cut her season short last year. Kellogg has brought on six newcomers to the Ladyjack roster.

The 2017 signing class will be comprised of 5-6 point guard Marissa Banfield from Friendswood, Texas (Westbury Christian School), 5-11 guard Alyssa Mayfield from Tyler, Texas (John Tyler HS), 6-2 center Aaliyah Johnson from Lee’s Summit, Mo. (Lee’s Summit North), and 5-11 guard Brionne Burns from Independence, Mo. (William Chrisman HS).
