Number One Offense vs. Number One Defense Showdown

Stephen F. Austin, the number one scoring offense in the SLC, takes on Central Arkansas, the number one scoring defense in the league, in a mid-week match up. The Ladyjacks carry the league scoring 75.7 points a game and still remain undefeated in conference play. They also are ranked second in the Southland for their scoring margin (+14.9), field goal percentage (44.4%), and assists (15.1). On the other side of the court, the Central Arkansas Sugar Bears lead the SLC in blocked shots (4.1), scoring defense (52.3), and are second in rebounding defense (32.3). These two dominate teams have matched up 16 times in the past, and the Ladyjacks lead the all-time series 10-6. The series started back in 2006-07 with the Ladyjacks owning a three-game win streak against the Sugar Bears, before UCA won the second game of the 2008-09 season. Since then, the teams have traded victories back and forth. The last time SFA and UCA met was in the Coliseum on January 7, 2016, and the Sugar Bears pulled out a win by a buzzer beater shot, 55-53. After that game, UCA went on to claim the 2016 Southland Conference Tournament Champion Title, but that is all a tale of numbers, the real testament will begin at the tip-off on Wednesday night.

Career High from Branch Keeps the Drive Alive with 94-75 Win Over UIW

Stephen F. Austin played their seventeenth game of the season against the University of Incarnate Word at the McDermott Center on Saturday evening. The Ladyjacks had a terrific offense attack led by three players earning double-doubles, and senior Brentney Branch eclipsed her career high points in a game. Branch had 29 points, twelve of those from beyond the arch. She was 13-19 in the field and 3-7 for three-pointers. Senior Taylor Ross had her third season double-double with 14 points and 10 assists. Redshirt junior Stevi Parker took her season fifth double-double honor with 10 points and led the Ladyjacks in rebounds with 14 boards. Freshman Riley Harvey had a tremendous game pulling down 11 rebounds and posting 13 points, her first collegiate double-double. Within the first half, the Ladyjacks as a team posted a season high 53 points within the first half. The last record high was 50 points in the first half against Prairie View A&M. SFA outrebounded the Cardinals 46-33 and kept UIW to a 39.4 shooting percentage from the field. The Ladyjacks had their fifth game this season were they shot over 50 percent from the field. They went 54.9 percent from the field and 80 percent at the charity stripe.

Stephen F. Austin received a program first this week when College Insider announced that the Ladyjacks made it to the Top 25 Mid-Major list this past Tuesday. With 76 points in the poll this week, SFA has moved into the No. 25 spot and ranks with other schools like Jacksonville, Northern Illinois, and Harvard. The honor is the first for the program since the creation of the Mid-Major poll in 2010.

Career Night from Parker Helps SFA Take Down Nicholls, 80-55

Stephen F. Austin hosted Nicholls on Saturday afternoon at the William R. Johnson Coliseum. The Ladyjacks extended their streak to a 13 game after the 80-55 rout with the Colonels. Two Ladyjackes were in double-digits tonight, senior Taylor Ross and redshirt junior Stevi Parker. Parker had a career night tying both her game high points and three-pointers in a game. The forward from Tulsa, Okla. had 20 points with two of the buckets from beyond the arch. She also pulled off her third season double-double and career sixth, with 20 points, 10 rebounds, and four assists. Ross claimed 19 points, with 15 of those from the third quarter only. As a team SFA had a tremendous third quarter, putting up 33 points a season quarter high best. The Ladyjacks outrebounded the Colonels 45-32 and kept them to only 30.4% in the field. On the other side, SFA was 50% in the field and 60% at the candy stripe.

Ladyjacks Host Nicholls on Saturday

Stephen F. Austin tacked on another win to their 12 game win streak after defeating Abilene Christian on the road Thursday night. The Ladyjacks are moving up the ladder as they were bumped up from 18 points to 56 points on the College Insider Mid-Major Top 25 lists this week. SFA continues to stay on course with the 1999-2000 program record, where the Ladyjacks went on a 19 game home streak that led them to the second round of the NCAA tournament and the Southland Conference Championship Title. Currently, the NCAA lists have held steady with SFA holding the 14th spot for their 13-2 Win-Loss Record (86.7%). In conference standings, the Ladyjacks still lead the league with 385 free-throw attempts and 265 makes (68.8%). They are second or third raked in conference for thirteen different statistical categories, ranging from assists, field-goal percentages, scoring offensive and defense, steals and turnovers forced.

Ladyjacks Break Abilene Christian’s Five Game Win Streak in 70-61 Rout

The Ladyjacks faced off against the Abilene Christian Wildcats on Thursday night at the Moody Coliseum and rose above the mark pulling off a 70-61 win in Abilene. SFA will be bringing home the 12 game win streak after a great first half and a hard fought second half. SFA’s effort was highlighted by Senior Adrienne Lewis capturing her season first double-double tonight with 17 points and 12 rebounds. Scoring wise, senior Brentney Branch led the night with 19 points, twelve of those points off triples. Senior Taylor Ross had another terrific night capping with 18 points, nine assists, and seven rebounds. To round off the four Ladyjacks in double-digits. redshirt junior Stevi Parker had ten points and five rebounds. SFA has a team had nine steals, six of those were from Ross herself, and SFA only forced a season low 15 turnovers against the Wildcats. ACU also outrebounded the Ladyjacks, 36-35, but SFA held the Wildcats to only 30% shooting in the field. The Ladyjacks were 49.0% in the field and 77.3% at the candy stripe.

Ladyjacks on the Road to Abilene Thursday

The Ladyjacks are on what could be a historical run for 2017. They are 12-2 overall and hold a 3-0 first place spot in the Southland Conference. In their Win-Loss percentage, Stephen F. Austin is at 85.7%, which ranks them as 17th in the nation. SFA now holds six top 20 rankings within the NCAA for various categories. However, Thursday’s opponent Abilene Christian is not without their own accolades. ACU is the 2015-16 Southland Conference regular season Champions after a 17-1 run last season. The Wildcats, like SFA, are undefeated in conference so far, and have preseason losses to only big schools like No.2 Baylor, Texas A&M, and Mizzou.

A Comeback Second Half Lengthens SFA’s Record to 12-2

Stephen F. Austin placed an undefeated program home streak against Texas A&M-Corpus Christi on the line Thursday night, and they pulled away with a hard fought 64-56 win. Only two Ladyjacks were in double-digits: Senior Taylor Ross and Senior Brentney Branch. Branch led the team with 17 points and five assists, while Ross claimed 14 points and four assists. Redshirt junior Stevi Parker was the next big SFA player. She had eight points and seven rebounds. Senior Adrienne Lewis also had seven rebounds, helping SFA outrebound the Islanders 42-33. The Ladyjacks defense had 14 steals with Branch and Parker with three apiece, and the team forced 25 turnovers.

Ladyjacks host Texas A&M Corpus Christi Tomorrow Night

Stephen F. Austin is off to the best start the program has had since 1999, where they continued onto a 19 game win streak that seated them as Southland Conference Champions and sent them through the second round of the NCAA Tournament. The Ladyjacks currently hold a 11-2 record with a ten game win streak, the best in Southland Conference standings. SFA is game-by-game making a name for themselves as they garnered 18 votes in this week’s College Insider Mid-Major Top 25. The Ladyjacks are still holding on to their NCAA ranking as well. They are currently ranked fourth and sixth for free throws attempts and makes, respectfully. The Ladyjack defense is also holding strong to their fifth place turnovers forced mark and are now 17th in steals per game.

Ross and Parker Both Claim Double-Doubles in the 96-65 Win over McNeese

Stephen F. Austin took a big 96-65 win over McNeese State on Monday evening in the Burton Coliseum. The Ladyjacks have proved that they are a force to be reckoned with in the Southland Conference as they took their highest scoring game in Lake Charles. SFA is now on a 10 game win streak and improves to 11-2. The Ladyjacks had five players in double digits against the Cowgirls. Senior Taylor Ross led the Ladyjacks with a season high 28 points and 10 assists, her first double-double of the season. Ross almost had a triple-double as she also grabbed nine boards. Redshirt junior Stevi Parker had her season second double-double with 10 points and 13 rebounds, ten of those were from defensive alone. Senior Brentney Branch had 16 points and went 3-3 at the free-throw line. Senior Adrienne Lewis was three rebounds shy of a double-double herself. She had 12 points and seven rebounds, and lastly freshman Riley Harvey completed the night with 10 points and seven rebounds. The Ladyjacks, as a team, outrebounded the Cowgirls 49-47. Both teams had 10 steals each, and SFA went 52.2% (36-69) in the field and 62.1% (18-29) from the line.

Stephen F. Austin Women’s Basketball is now 10-2 on the season, the best start to a season since 1999. The Ladyjacks are on a nine game win streak and are looking to tab another to the win column as they head out on their first road conference game.

Ladyjacks Wins Conference Opener with a Landslide over HBU, 86-49

The Stephen F. Austin Ladyjacks started their conference play run with an 86-49 win over the Houston Baptist Huskies. The Ladyjacks are now 10-2 on the season with Senior Taylor Ross claiming her fourth 20 point game. Two other Ladyjacks were in double digits along with Ross, senior Brentney Branch had 18 points with four of those as triples. Redshirt junior Stevi Parker was one rebound shy of getting her second double-double of the season with 11 points and nine rebounds. SFA had a season high 13 three-pointers from 26 attempts (50%) and shot 50% in the field (29 for 58). The Ladyjacks outrebounded the Huskies 41-35 and created 22 turnovers. They also had a season high 20 assists on the afternoon, showing that the Ladyjacks effort was a whole team effort.

Ladyjacks Begin Conference Play on Saturday against HBU

Stephen F. Austin begins their conference season this Saturday with a double-header against Houston Baptist. Both women and men’s teams will tip off on New Year’s Eve at 1:30 p.m. and 4:00 p.m. CT, respectfully. SFA has an eight game win streak coming into tomorrow’s game, the best starting record they have had since the 2011-12 season. The Ladyjacks are gaining momentum has they garnered seven votes for the Mid-Major Top 25 list this week. On the NCAA lists, the Ladyjacks hold the 14th and 15th spot for free-throws made and attempts. They are also ranked 16th in the nation for steals per game and 5th for turnovers forced.

SFA had a Record Breaking Night with Run-Away Over Prairie-View

Stephen F. Austin took a run-away win over the Prairie View A&M Panthers on Tuesday night. The Ladyjacks had five Ladyjacks in the double-digit points. Freshman Riley Harvey had a career high night with 19 points and five rebounds. Sophomore Kia Fisker also had a career high rebounds grabbing down six boards. Senior Taylor Ross had 18 points on the night and six assists. Senior Brentney Branch was right behind with 17 points and five assists on the night. Redshirt junior Stevi Parker was two rebounds shy of another double-double. She had 14 points and eight rebounds. And lastly senior Adrienne Lewis rounded the team out with 10 points. The SFA defense created 13 steals and forced 21 turnovers against the Panthers. On total rebounds, SFA squeaked by again 41 to their 40 boards. In the field, the Ladyjacks shot 28-60 (46.7%) and went 26-32 (81.3%) at the stripe.
