LOUISVILLE, Ky. -- The National Fastpitch Coaches Association has announced that 667 student-athletes from 175 programs have received 2017 NFCA Division I All-Region accolades. Providence senior Nicole Lundstrom (Rehoboth, Mass.) was named to the Great Lakes All-Region Third Team.

Softball Has Three Players Earn All-BIG EAST Selections

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The BIG EAST announced regular season awards for softball on Wednesday, May 10. Providence had three players earn All-BIG EAST honors. Senior Nicole Lundstrom (Rehoboth, Mass.), junior Julianne Rurka (Warrenville, Ill.) and sophomore Emma Lee (Orange, Calif.) were all named to the All-BIG EAST Second Team. These are the most All-BIG EAST selections for Providence since 2010.

VILLANOVA, PA. – The Providence College Softball team finished its weekend series against the Villanova Wildcats on Sunday, May 7. The Friars defeated the Wildcats, 10-9 in eight innings to improve their record to 23-25 (10-11).

VILLANOVA, PA. – The Providence College Softball team played a doubleheader against the Villanova Wildcats as part of its final weekend series of the year on Saturday, May 6. The Friars took the first game by a score of 15-6, before dropping the second game, 8-1. Providence now has a record of 22-25 (9-11) while Villanova improved to 35-19 (13-7)

The Friars will play a doubleheader against the Wildcats on Saturday, May 6 at 12:00 and 2:00 p.m. The series will end with a BIG EAST Digital Network game on Sunday, May at 12:00 p.m.

The Friars will take on Holy Cross for their final home game of the year on Tuesday, May 2 at 5:00 p.m. Providence will then travel to Chestnut Hill to take on Boston College on Wednesday, May 3 at 4:00 p.m.

Senior Nicole Lundstrom (Rehoboth, Mass.) and junior Christina Ramirez (Niceville, Fla.) were named to the BIG EAST weekly honor roll. Both Lundstrom and Ramirez played important roles in the Friars weekend series against Creighton on April 29-30.

The Providence College softball team defeated BIG EAST foe Creighton, 5-1, on Sunday, April 30 at Glay Field in Providence, R.I. The victory earned the Friars a series sweep over the Bluejays (3-0), having earned two victories vs. Creighton in a double-header on Saturday (2-1, 11-3). It marks Providence’s first sweep of the season during BIG EAST play.
