Providence Cross Country Competes At NCAA Cross Country Championships

TERRE HAUTE, IND. -- The Providence College men's and women's Cross Country teams competed at the NCAA Cross Country Championships in Terre Haute, Ind. on Nov. 19. On a cold and windy day, the women finished 13th in the Women's 6k while the men took 24th in the Men's 10k.The women's race remained tightly packed until slightly after the half way point of the race.

PROVIDENCE, R.I.- The Providence College men’s and women’s cross country teams are set to compete at the NCAA Cross Country Championships on Nov. 19. The races will take place at the LaVern Gibson Cross Country course in Terre Haute, Ind. The women’s 6k will start at 11:00 a.m. ET, followed by the men’s 10k at 12:00 p.m. ET. NEW ORLEANS, LA. - The USTFCCCA released the Regional Coaches and Athletes of the Year Awards on Nov. 15. Providence College’s Director of Cross Country/Track and Field Ray Treacy was awarded the recently named Ray Treacy Northeast Women’s Coach of the Year award. This season, Coach Treacy guided the women’s team to their fourth Northeast Regional Team Title in the past five years as well as their third BIG EAST title in the past four years.

Providence Cross Country Ranked In Final Poll Of Season

NEW ORLEANS, LA. – The USTFCCCA released their final national rankings on Nov. 14. The Providence College men’s and women’s cross country programs were both ranked in the final poll with the women ranked third and the men ranked 30th. Both the women’s and men’s teams qualified for the NCAA Cross Country Championships with their performances at the Northeast Regional meet. The women won the meet for the fourth time in the past five years while the men finished fourth. The Friars’ final race of the season will take place on Nov. 19 at the NCAA Cross Country Championships.



Men’s Cross Country Receives At-Large Berth To NCAA Championships

NEW ORLEANS, LA. – The USTFCCCA announced on Nov. 12 the 13 men’s and women’s teams that received an At-Large berth to the NCAA Cross Country Championships. The Providence Cross Country men’s team was one of the teams to earn an At-Large berth. The men finished fourth at the Northeast Regional Meet on Nov. 11. The Friars earned their berth based on their finishes at the races they competed in throughout the season. Both the men’s and women’s teams will now compete at the NCAA Cross Country Championships on Nov. 19 in Terra Haute, Ind.



Women's Cross Country Captures NCAA Northeast Regional Title, Men Place Fourth

BRONX, N.Y. -- The Providence College women's cross country team captured the 2016 NCAA Northeast Regional Championship at Van Cortlandt Park in the Bronx, N.Y. today (Nov. 11). For the women, it was the team's fourth NCAA Northeast Regional title in the last five years (2015 1st, 2014 2nd, 2013 1st, and 2012 1st). The Friars scored 50 points, and placed first of 37 teams, as they had three runners in the top seven and easily defeated second-place Harvard (71 points) over the 6K course. With the victory the Friars earned an automatic bid to the NCAA Cross Country Championships in Terre Haute, Ind. on Saturday, Nov. 19. It will mark the team's 27th appearance at the NCAAs in the last 28 years.

The Friars compete annually at the Mini Meet to decide the final three roster spots for the team that will compete at the BIG EAST Championships.
