It marks the third consecutive season and sixth time overall that a Friar has been named USBWA District 1 Player of the Year. The other Friars who have earned the honor were Kris Dunn (2016), LaDontae Henton (2015), Jamine Peterson (2010), Ryan Gomes (2005) and Austin Croshere (1997).

It marks the second year in a row and fourth time in the history of the league that a Providence player has earned the honor.
