College Awards Construction Management Contract for First Phase of Ruane Friar Development Center to Dimeo Construction

Providence College today announced that the College has awarded the construction management contract for Phase I of the Ruane Friar Development Center (RFDC) to Dimeo Construction of Providence. The RFDC will be a new, multi-purpose facility attached to Alumni Hall, whose first phase will include a basketball practice facility and space for associated Department of Athletics activities. Dimeo Construction has completed several projects for Providence College, most recently the Arthur F. & Patricia Ryan Center for Business Studies (2017) and the Ruane Center for the Humanities (2013), the College’s two newest academic buildings.

Drew Edwards and Maliek White Named to USA East Coast Roster

Providence, R.I. – It was announced on June 6 that on August 7-12, 2017 Providence College sophomore guards Drew Edwards (Perry Hall, Md.) and Maliek White (Richmond, Va.) will travel to Madrid, Spain to play for the 2017 USA East Coast team. Edwards and White are the first Friars to play for the East Coast team since Kadeem Batts participated in 2013. Coaching the team will be Hall of Fame Coach Larry Brown, who is the only coach ever to win an NBA and NCAA Championship. Other notable selections for the team include Rex Pflueger (Notre Dame), Austin Torres (Notre Dame), Rakym Felder (South Carolina) and Franklin Howard (Syracuse).

Men's Basketball Announces 2017-18 Non-Conference Schedule

PROVIDENCE, R.I. -- Providence College Head Coach Ed Cooley announced the 2017-18 men's basketball team's non-conference schedule on May 25. The non-conference home schedule is highlighted by games versus Big Ten foe Minnesota (November 13) and ACC rival Boston College (November 25).

Makai Ashton-Langford Signs Scholarship Offer To Attend PC

Providence College men’s basketball coach Ed Cooley announced today (April 13) that student--athlete Makai Ashton-Langford (Worcester, Mass.) has signed a scholarship offer to attend Providence College beginning in September 2017. He is one of the top point guards in the nation and is ranked in the top 38 in the country by (No. 31), 247 (No. 32), (No. 36) and (No. 38). He is the highest ranked recruit to commit to the Friars since 2012 (Rick Ledo, No. 21 and Kris Dunn, No. 23). Ashton-Langford, joins forwards Nate Watson and Dajour Dickens (both signed a NLI in the fall) to make up a Friar recruiting class which is ranked No. 29 by and No. 15 by 247sports.

Men's Basketball Announces Team Awards

Providence College men’s basketball Head Coach Ed Cooley announced the 2016-17 team awards on Saturday, April 8. The honors were given out at the team’s annual end-of-year banquet at the Omni Hotel in Providence, R.I. All-BIG EAST Second Team honorees junior Kyron Carwright (Compton, Calif.) and junior Rodney Bullock (Hampton, Va.) were named the Jimmy Walker Most Valuable Players. Other highlights included senior Casey Woodring (Darien, Conn.) earning the John Zannini Coaches Award, and freshmen Kalif Young (Vaughan, Ontario) and Maliek White being named the Coca-Cola Most Promising Prospects. Freshman Alpha Diallo (New York, N.Y.) earned the Marvin Barnes Defensive Player of the Year honors. Sophomore Isaiah Jackson (Gainesville, Fla.) received the Unsung Hero Award. Junior Emmitt Holt (Webster, N.Y.) earned the Lenny Wilkens Hustle Award. Junior Jalen Lindsey (Murfreesboro, Tenn.) was named the Ryan Gomes Most Improved Player. In addition, sophomore forward Tom Planek (Oak Park, Ill.) received the Thomas Ramos Academic Award after posting the team’s highest grade-point average.
