The University of Maryland Eastern Shore used an upset of No. 4 Hampton to advance to the Mid-Eastern Conference semifinals, but the story for the Hawks unfortunately ended there.Eastern Shore (14-20) dropped a 79-49 decision to No. 1 seeded North Carolina Central on Friday night to end its season.

The University of Maryland Eastern Shore, having already picked up two wins in the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference Tournament for the first time since the 1973-74 season, face their next challenge on Friday at 6 p.m. when they face No. 1 seeded North Carolina Central.The Hawks (14-19) face a tall order in the Eagles, who 23-8 won 13 straight MEAC games en route to their third regular season title in four seasons. Central is the only team during conference play to top the Hawks by double digits and they did it twice.

The University of Maryland Eastern Shore hadn't won a second game at the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference since the 1973-74 season. That year, they had a first-round bye, defeated Howard 92-89 and then topped Morgan State 77-62 to win the championship.On Thursday night, the Hawks (14-19) updated that fact by beating No. 4 seeded Hampton, 68-66, to advance to Friday's 6 p.m. semifinal against No. 1 North Carolina Central.

The University of Maryland Eastern Shore did what it has done so often this year coming from behind to pick up another victory against MEAC Tournament No. 12 seed North Carolina A&T to open Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference Tournament play.On Thursday (March 9) at 8 p.m., No. 5 seed Eastern Shore (13-19) will now face No. 4 seed Hampton University.

The old adage is that it is hard to beat any one team three times in the same season. University of Maryland Eastern Shore will test that theory on Monday at 5 p.m., when it faces North Carolina A&T in the opening round of the MEAC Tournament.The Hawks (12-19, 9-7 MEAC) hold the No. 5 seed in and will face the Aggies (3-28, 1-15 MEAC), the No. 12 seed, for a third time this season, at the Scope in Norfolk Virginia.

University of Maryland Eastern Shore senior forward Bakari Copeland (Decatur, Georgia) has been named to the All-Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference First Team the conference announced today.Copeland was the top returning scorer for the Hawks form last year’s squad, continues to lead the Hawks in scoring (17.7 points per game), rebounding (6.1) and has been a model of consistency reaching double digits in 27 of 30 games this season. He has five double doubles this season and has eclipse 20 points 10 times.

Hawks suffer season sweep at the hands of Howard

The University of Maryland Eastern Shore trailed by seven points at the break at Howard University on Monday night, but another come-from-behind victory wasn't in the cards.The Hawks (11-19, 8-7 MEAC) shot just 37 percent from the field in the second half including 2-of-13 from behind the arc as the Bison (8-11, 5-10 MEAC) picked up the win, 79-69, on their senior night to sweep the season series.
