Hawks make big comeback, top Bethune-Cookman, 82-79

The University of Maryland Eastern Shore trailed by 14 as late as the 10-minute mark of its game at Bethune-Cookman University but pulled out an 82-79 victory thanks to a finger roll by junior Logan McIntosh (Atlanta, Georgia) with 59 seconds left and a pair of free throws by senior Thomas Rivera (Harlem, New York) with 17 ticks remaining.

The University of Maryland Eastern Shore split a North Carolina road trip with a win at North Carolina A&T State and a loss at North Carolina Central, but hopes to get back in the win column when it hosts Howard on Saturday (Jan. 14) at 4 p.m.The Hawks (4-13, 1-1 MEAC) were two very different teams this week shooting 58 percent at A&T and then just 36 percent at Central from the field. They hope to find a happy medium in their Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference home opener.

The University of Maryland Eastern Shore hung close to host North Carolina Central cutting within six points (56-50) with 5:08 remaining, but the Eagles closed the game on a 13-2 run and finished on top by a 69-52 score.The Hawks (4-13, 1-1 MEAC) actually led (20-19) as late as the 8:41 mark of the first half, but the Eagles (10-6, 1-1 MEAC) grabbed the lead on possession later and never gave it up.

The University of Maryland Eastern Shore opened the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference season a couple days later than they planned, but did so with a win at North Carolina A&T State on Monday evening.They now hit North Carolina Central’s McDougal-McLendon Arena on Wednesday (Jan. 11) for the men’s and women’s double header at 4 and 6 p.m., that was rescheduled from Saturday.

The University of Maryland Eastern Shore took perfect advantage of career games by its two top scorers on a night when it also shot a season-high 58 percent from the field in a 99-88 win against North Carolina A&T State (1-15, 0-2 MEAC).The Hawks (4-12, 1-0 MEAC) dished out a season-high 24 assists and won their Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference opener for the first time since 2010.

The University of Maryland Eastern had to wait two extra days to kick off the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference schedule after its scheduled opener at North Carolina Central was rescheduled due to weather.The Hawks (3-12) will now open at North Carolina A&T State University (1-14, 0-1 MEAC) on Monday (Jan. 9) at 4 p.m. (30 minutes after the conclusion of the women’s game).
