Cross Country/Track & Field Study Abroad Blog #4: Emma Hatch

Thu, 14 Jul 2016 09:26:00 EDT

My name is Emma Hatch, and I will be writing to you these next few weeks from the Eternal City of Roma. If you have been keeping up to date with the other articles being posted on this site you may have seen my name mentioned in a couple of the blogs sent in by my teammate/roommate Sophie Meads. For the week and a half prior to my arrival at the John Felice Rome Center (or JFRC as it will henceforth be referred) on Saturday, July 2nd, I had the pleasure of travelling to both Madrid and Amsterdam with Sophie. We had quite a few adventures at both of these locations, so if you have not already read her blogs, I highly recommend that you do. Regardless, now that dear Sophie has returned to the States, she has passed on the blogging mantle to me, and thus I will do my best to rise to the occasion in the hopes of entertaining you all with my own personal misadventures and occasional triumphs.

Cross Country/Track & Field Study Abroad Blog #3: Sophie Meads

Before I set out for my European adventures, I set two goals for myself. The first one was to not get pick pocketed (check), and the second was to heal my injured foot/be running again by the time I returned to home (check). However I did not accomplish the latter goal without some sacrifices in the fashion department. When I first got to Spain, Coach Randy Hasenbank sent me a text reminding me to wear good shoes and “trade fashion for function”, which is exactly what I did. Even after my foot pain went away, I continued to wear my running shoes almost 24/7 to assure the pain would stay away. And after last Friday in Amsterdam, I am glad I was wearing running shoes…

Cross Country/Track & Field Study Abroad Blog #2: Sophie Meads

My time in Spain has come to an end but my last week was nothing short of eventful. It included a few tests, an essay, a presentation, a search for an albino pigeon, a night on a terrace inside the Real Madrid stadium, dinner at the oldest restaurant in the world (confirmed by the Guinness Book of World Records) and a visit from two of my teammates. Emily McCoy and I could not get enough of each other last weekend so she hopped on a bus for a weekend in Madrid while Emma Hatch decided to bless me with her presence by coming to Europe a few weeks before her Rome study abroad program starts.
