W. Basketball. The Finish Line: Harriet Ottewill-Soulsby

Thu, 18 May 2017 10:11:00 EDT

It's 6.15 and my alarm won't. stop. ringing. I have just enough time to get changed and grab a snack before I head down to the track. On my way, I hear myself groan. My eyes are heavy and my legs are still sore from yesterday's preseason workout. Only my mind is moving quickly as I frantically wonder what challenges Coach will have in store today.

Four years ago, I had a lot on my mind. I knew I wanted to play baseball at Lafayette. I thought I wanted to go to Chiropractic school. Today, I’m graduating with a plan to become a Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine. How I got to this point, though, was far from the ordinary.

W. Lacrosse. The Finish Line: Charlotte Rath

Tue, 16 May 2017 10:45:00 EDT

Somewhere on an unlined, uncut, divot-filled field stands a group of youngsters circled around their volunteer coach. That coach just finished working her full-time job and scrambled to get to the field on time. That coach used her lunch hour to develop a practice plan for the evening’s session. That coach tossed the well-thought-out plan aside five minutes into practice realizing that tonight the kids just needed to burn some energy and play. We all know that coach. She’s at the heart of why we play sports. Two boys reminded me of that fact when I needed it most.
