No fewer than 10 Big Ten women's basketball programs will tip off their quest for a postseason tournament championship this week, with six conference teams competing in the NCAA Tournament and another four participating in the Women's National Invitation Tournament (WNIT).

For the 18th consecutive season, the Big Ten is sending at least eight of its women's basketball programs to postseason play. Iowa, Maryland, Michigan, Minnesota, Nebraska and Ohio State will compete in the NCAA Tournament, while Indiana, Michigan, Penn State and Purdue will participate in the Women's National Invitation Tournament (WNIT). This year's 10 combined Big Ten programs in postseason play are the second-most in conference history behind the 11 postseason participants in 2016 (five in the NCAA, six in the WNIT).

Hours after six Big Ten Conference women's basketball programs earned a place in the NCAA Tournament, another four Big Ten schools were chosen to participate in this year's Women's National Invitation Tournament (WNIT), it was announced late Monday evening by the event's organizer, Triple Crown Sports.

Six Big Ten schools received berths into the 2018 NCAA Division I Women's Basketball Championship, it was announced Monday night. Iowa, Maryland, Michigan, Minnesota, Nebraska and Ohio State earned their way into this year's tournament (the most selections for the Big Ten since the conference had seven in 2015), with all 63 NCAA postseason games televised on the ESPN family of networks.

Kelsey Mitchell scored 25 points and No. 13 Ohio State beat 17th-ranked Maryland 79-69 on Sunday night to win the Big Ten women's basketball tournament. After trailing 22-17 at the end of the first quarter, Ohio State outscored Maryland 27-9 in the second period to take a 44-31 lead into the half. The Buckeyes started the second quarter with a 16-2 run before the Terrapins finally called timeout in an attempt to slow Ohio State's momentum. The scoring onslaught gave the tournament's top seeded Buckeyes the cushion they needed when the Terrapins made a run in the second half.

No. 17 Maryland women beat Nebraska in Big Ten semifinals

Brianna Fraser scored 18 points on 6-of-7 shooting and Eleanna Christinaki had 14 points and a career-high 16 rebounds to help No. 17 Maryland beat Nebraska 66-53 on Saturday night in the Big Ten Tournament semifinals. No. 2 seed Maryland (25-6) will play top-seeded and No. 13 Ohio State in the championship game Sunday. The Terrapins won the only other matchup between the teams this season 99-69 on Jan. 22 in College Park, Maryland. Hannah Whitish hit a 3 to give Nebraska (21-10) a 14-13 lead with two minutes left in the first quarter, but the Terrapins made 13 of their next 14 field-goal attempts and Ieshia Small scored nine points in a 12-1 run that gave Maryland a 25-15 lead with nearly four minutes left in the first half. Whitish hit another 3-pointer to cap an 8-0 spurt and pull Nebraska within seven midway through the third quarter, but Christinaki scored six points during a 8-0 run that made it 47-32 going into the fourth and the Terrapins led by double figures the rest of the way.

The top-seeded Buckeyes didn't secure a spot in the championship game until Carlie Wagner's 12-foot jumper from the right of the lane bounced off the rim as time expired. Ohio State (26-6) faces second-seeded Maryland or third-seeded Nebraska for the title Sunday night.
