Only two games separate the top eight schools in the Big Ten standings as the fourth week of conference play tips off Tuesday with four games on the docket. Highlighting Tuesday's schedule is a Big Ten Network doubleheader as No. 19/18 Michigan visits Big Ten leader and No. 8 Ohio State and Michigan State travels to Illinois. In other conference action, Indiana is at No. 14 Maryland, while 20th-ranked Iowa heads to Nebraska, with both of those games televised live on BTN Plus.

Through the first quarter of the Big Ten season, reigning conference champions Maryland and Ohio State are joined by Rutgers atop the Big Ten standings at 4-0. The Terrapins own the conference's longest active winning streak at 13 games, while the Scarlet Knights are on an 11-game winning streak, their longest since a 12-game string to end the 2013-14 season and start the 2014-15 campaign (their first in the Big Ten). Rutgers has also won its first four conference games for the first time since 2013-14, when they started 4-0 in their only season in the American Athletic Conference.

The 36th season of Big Ten women's basketball tips off Thursday with all 14 conference schools in action. Maryland and Ohio State are the defending Big Ten champions, having shared last year's title with matching 15-1 conference records. The Big Ten features a 16-game regular season schedule that will culminate with the 25th edition of the Big Ten Women's Basketball Tournament Feb. 28-March 4 at Bankers Life Fieldhouse in Indianapolis (tournament all-session tickets are now on sale -- see page two of the PDF version of this release for more information).

Seven Big Ten schools are currently riding winning streaks of four games or more, led by No. 15/14 Maryland (eight games), Rutgers (seven games) and No. 23/21 Michigan (six games). For Rutgers, it's the Scarlet Knights' longest winning streak since a 12-game string that began with their six-game run to the 2014 WNIT title and continued with the first six games of the 2014-15 season, their first as a Big Ten member.

All 14 Big Ten women's basketball programs remain at or above .500, with eight conference schools owning a .700 winning percentage or better more than a month into the 2017-18 season. What's more, Nebraska and Rutgers have already tied or surpassed their win totals from all of last year (when Nebraska had seven wins and Rutgers had six), while Illinois is one victory away and Wisconsin is two wins shy of tying its victory count from last season.

The Big Ten has maintained its solid performance throughout the non-conference season, with all 14 schools at our above .500 and eight Big Ten programs sporting a .700 winning percentage or better through the season's first four weeks. Iowa and Minnesota remain atop the Big Ten standings with 8-1 records, as the Hawkeyes build on their third 8-1 start in five years, and the Golden Gophers have matched their 8-1 start from 2014-15.
