Catamount Madness Scheduled for Monday, Oct. 24

The Western Carolina University Department of Athletics invites fans to attend Catamount Madness presented by River Walk Apartments Monday, Oct. 24 at 7 pm inside the Ramsey Center. Catamount Madness is the annual tip-off event to the men's and women's basketball seasons and the 2016 version is bigger and better than ever before. 2015 America's Got Talent semifinalists Mountain Faith Band is scheduled to perform the national anthem and the Pride of the Mountains marching band will be on hand to entertain the crowd.

Western Carolina Announces Catamount Men's Basketball Game Times

The Western Carolina Department of Athletics announced the home game times for the 2016-17 men's basketball season Tuesday (Oct. 11) afternoon. The Catamounts will play nine evening games inside the Ramsey Center with five games scheduled to take place in the afternoon.

Western Carolina Men's Basketball Holds First Official Practice

The Western Carolina men's basketball team held its first practice of the 2016-17 season Friday afternoon. The team worked on all aspects of the game during their first official session together including running through offensive sets and working on defensive assignments. Similar to last season, the team is able to hold a total of 30 practices in a 42-day span leading up to their opening game of the season at nationally-ranked Miami (Fla.). Prior to the 2013-14 season the universal start date for all men's basketball teams in NCAA Division I was October 15.

Southern Conference Championships to Remain in North Carolina in 2016-17

The Southern Conference announced that it will honor its 2016-17 commitments to championships scheduled in the state of North Carolina. These include men’s soccer in Greensboro, men’s and women’s basketball in Asheville, and men’s golf in Pinehurst.

Hunter Announces Catamount Men's Basketball 2016-17 Schedule

Western Carolina's head men's basketball coach Larry Hunter released the 2016-17 Catamount schedule Wednesday (Aug. 24) afternoon. The schedule features two games against teams ranked among the top-10 in the final 2016 Associated Press Poll, 16 games against teams that advanced to postseason tournaments, four games in the early-season Global Sports Invitational, and trips to Miami (Fla.), Marquette and West Virginia.
