Catamount Baseball Drops Series Finale in 13 Innings, 12-11

Canisius College used a pair of three-run innings to rally past Western Carolina baseball on Saturday afternoon, completing the three-game series sweep with a 12-11 victory in 13 innings at Childress Field / Hennon Stadium. The Golden Griffins erased a three-run deficit in the top of the ninth to force extra innings before grabbing a three-run edge in the top of the 13th inning in the winning effort.



Catamount Baseball Swept by Canisius in Friday Doubleheader

Canisius College scored early and often on Friday in sweeping Western Carolina in a nonconference baseball doubleheader at Childress Field / Hennon Stadium. The Golden Griffins took both ends of the twin bill, 15-4, in the opener and 9-0 in the seven-inning night cap. Game three of the first-ever series meeting between the two programs is scheduled for a 2:00 pm first pitch on Saturday afternoon.

Baseball Announces Weather-Related Schedule Alterations

Due to the forecast of inclement weather throughout the latter parts of the weekend, Western Carolina and Catamount baseball have announced one schedule alteration to the series against Canisius College. The teams will play a doubleheader on Friday beginning at 4:00 pm with game three set for 2 pm on Saturday.

Offense Powers Catamounts to 6-2 Home-Opening Win over Morehead State

Four Catamounts posted multi-hit games including three-hit outings by Andrew Robinson and Justin Sparks as Western Carolina overcame a sluggish start to win its 2018 home-opener over Morehead State, 6-2, on Tuesday afternoon at Childress Field / Hennon Stadium. Every Catamount batter in the lineup collected as base hit as WCU pounded out a season-high 16 hits in the first victory of the season.

Early Deficit Dooms Baseball in 9-3 Loss in Series Finale

For a second-straight day, East Carolina erupted for five runs in the early innings in completing the series sweep of Western Carolina, 9-3, in nonconference baseball acion on Sunday afternoon at Clark-LeClair Field. Four Catamount errors helped the Pirates to six unearned runs, while WCU lit the scoreboard three times over the final three innings of the finale.

Catamount Baseball Opens 2018 Season Friday at East Carolina

Western Carolina opens its 2018 baseball season on Friday afternoon as the Catamounts visit directional rival, East Carolina, for the first of a three-game set at Clark-LeClair Stadium in Greenville. Game one is scheduled for 4 pm on Friday afternoon, followed by a 2 pm start on Saturday afternoon and a 1 pm first pitch on Sunday.

Cameron Blaquiere Named 2018 Leggett No. 7 Legacy Recipient

Western Carolina head baseball coach Bobby Moranda and his coaching staff have named senior infielder Cameron Blaquiere as the 2018 "Leggett No. 7 Legacy" recipient just days before the team opens the 2018 season at directional rival, East Carolina. Moranda made the presentation as part of a team dinner on Tuesday night held at Kostas Family Restaurant in Dillsboro with coaching legend -- and the award's namesake -- Jack Leggett in attendance.

Baseball Picked Fourth, Fifth in Pair of Preseason SoCon Polls

Preseason predictions for the 2018 Southern Conference baseball season were released on Thursday afternoon with Western Carolina finding itself in unfamiliar territory. Following a regular season runner-up finish in 2017 -- the program's fourth, top-two finish over the past five years -- the Catamounts were predicted to finish in a tie for fourth-place by the league's nine head coaches and were tabbed fifth in the media voting, the league office announced.
