The Chapel Hill, N.C., native took home a pair of event victories and a second place finish at the 2017 Beynon Sports Surfaces Catamount Classic this past weekend.

WCU’s top performers were senior Scott Peretin and sophomore Devyn Montel Jones who each captured a pair of victories on Saturday.

WCU’s two individual medalists were freshman Justin Tucker in the 10,000m and sophomore Shikym Khalil Jackson in the high jump.

The honor is the second outdoor field athlete of the month Cook has won during her career and fifth all-time combining indoor and outdoor awards. Cook was named the indoor field athlete of the month for January earlier this year.

The women finished third out of a field of 16 teams while the men placed third out of 14 teams. The Catamounts captured 21 top-eight finishes on the final day of competition led by sophomore Dasha Arnaut’s second place showing in the 400m hurdles.

The women are ranked second out of a 16 team field after day one while the men rank fifth with 13 teams in action. WCU picked up three individual event victories including sophomore Dasha Arnaut taking the women’s 400m, sophomore Jordan Bostian winning the men’s 3,000m steeplechase and freshman Jazmine Gooden who earned a victory in the long jump in her very first outdoor collegiate event.

Sun, 26 Feb 2017 19:08:00 EDTFor the first time in program history the Western Carolina men’s track & field team captured its fourth-straight Southern Conference Indoor Championship Sunday afternoon in Johnson City, Tenn., downing second place Samford by just 15 points. The women came up just short of winning their third title in the last four years as they fell to Samford by 56.5 points. The championship is the first under first year head coach Cale McDaniel who served as an assistant coach for many WCU championships in the past.
