Men and Women Finish Third at Bob Davidson Spring Kick-off

Both the Western Carolina men’s and women’s track & field teams finished third at the season opening Bob Davidson Spring Kick-off hosted by High Point University. The women finished third out of a field of 16 teams while the men placed third out of 14 teams. The Catamounts captured 21 top-eight finishes on the final day of competition led by sophomore Dasha Arnaut’s second place showing in the 400m hurdles.



Catamounts Open Outdoor Season at Bob Davidson Spring Kick-off

The Western Carolina men’s and women’s track & field teams opened up their 2017 outdoor season Friday at the Bob Davidson Spring Kick-off hosted by High Point University. The women are ranked second out of a 16 team field after day one while the men rank fifth with 13 teams in action. WCU picked up three individual event victories including sophomore Dasha Arnaut taking the women’s 400m, sophomore Jordan Bostian winning the men’s 3,000m steeplechase and freshman Jazmine Gooden who earned a victory in the long jump in her very first outdoor collegiate event.

Cale McDaniel Garners SoCon Men’s Indoor Coach of the Year

Western Carolina track & field first-year head coach Cale McDaniel was today named the Southern Conference Men’s Indoor Track & Field Coach of the Year following his squad’s capturing the 2017 championship, the ninth for the program all-time and fourth-consecutive indoor crown.

Men Four-Peat; Women Finish Second at 2017 SoCon Indoor Championships

For the first time in program history the Western Carolina men’s track & field team captured its fourth-straight Southern Conference Indoor Championship Sunday afternoon in Johnson City, Tenn., downing second place Samford by just 15 points. The women came up just short of winning their third title in the last four years as they fell to Samford by 56.5 points. The championship is the first under first year head coach Cale McDaniel who served as an assistant coach for many WCU championships in the past.



Catamount Men and Women in Second after Opening Day of SoCon Championships

The Western Carolina University men’s and women’s track & field teams are both in good positions at the end of day one at the 2017 Southern Conference Indoor Track & Field Championships in Johnson City, Tenn. The men are looking to repeat as champions for the fourth-straight time while the women look to return to the top of the podium after a one year hiatus. The men sit in second after day one trailing Samford by just seven points while the women trail first place Samford by just six points.

The men and women come in ranked second in the SoCon according to the most recent power rankings. The men look to defend their 2016 titles while the women look to return to the top after a second place showing last season.



Western Carolina Track & Field Excels at Samford Invite

The Western Carolina men's and women's track & field teams traveled to Birmingham, Ala., Friday to compete in the one day Samford Invitational. The Catamounts picked up several top-10 performances while winning the men's 4x400m relay. With the 2017 Southern Conference Indoor Championships just two weeks away, the Catamounts are beginning to fine tune their individual event performances.

Catamounts Win Three Events on Final Day of Buccaneer Invitational

The Western Carolina men's and women's track & field teams picked up a trio of event victories Saturday afternoon while placing 20 athletes in top-10 positions. Junior Dakota Lamont, freshman Jazmine Gooden and senior Hailey Cook all picked up victories on Saturday to lead the way for the Catamounts.



Catamounts Open Up Action at the Buccaneer Invitational

The Western Carolina men's and women's track & field team visited Johnson City, Tenn., for the second time this indoor season to compete in the Buccaneer Invitational Friday. WCU qualified 16 athletes for Saturday finals while picking up 15 other top-10 finishes on the day.



Cook Named SoCon Field Athlete of the Month

Western Carolina track & field senior thrower Hailey Cook was named the Southern Conference Field Athlete of the Month for January. Cook becomes the first women’s field athlete in SoCon history to earn the award three times since they began giving out the honor in 2008. Cook was named the Field Athlete of the Month in January and February last season. Cook joins former teammate Tayla Carter as the only two female track & field athletes in SoCon history to earn three monthly awards.



Lewis Named SoCon Field Athlete of the Week

Western Carolina senior field athlete Tiffani Lewis has been named the Southern Conference women’s field athlete of the week, for competition held Jan. 25-31, the league office announced Wednesday.

Catamounts Snap Meet and Facility Record at Thundering Herd Invitational

The Western Carolina men's 4x400m relay team snapped the meet and facility record on the final day of the Thundering Herd Invitational Saturday as WCU picked up 16 top-10 finishes on the day. Junior Henry Kiedi, freshman Devaniel Dale, sophomore Caleb Albrecht and junior Dakota Lamont teamed up to break the meet and facility record as they completed the 1600m distance in 3:15.53 which broke the previous record set by WCU last season at the Thundering Herd Invitational.

The Western Carolina men's and women's track & field teams opened up competition at the Thundering Herd Invitational Friday afternoon hosted by Marshall University. The men sit in third in the team standings after day one while the women are sixth. WCU placed seven competitors in the top-10 on day one.

Western Carolina senior field athletes Scott Peretin and Hailey Cook have been named Southern Conference men’s and women’s field athletes of the week, respectively, for competition held Jan. 9-15, the league office announced Friday.



Catamounts Claim Two Individual Titles at ETSU Invitational

A pair of Western Carolina women's track & field team members claimed individual titles on the final day of the ETSU Invitational. Seniors Hailey Cook and Chenell Bryan led the way for WCU as Cook won the women's shot put and Bryan took home the long jump title. Overall 14 individuals finished in the top-10 for WCU and three relay teams.
