Cook Closes Out Track & Field Season

Senior Hailey Cook concluded her illustrious Western Carolina track & field career Saturday evening at the NCAA East Preliminary Round in Lexington, Ky., as she competed in the shot put for the third-straight year. Cook is one of the most decorated track & field student-athletes in Western Carolina history and wrapped up her career with a 35th-place finish at the NCAA competition.



Three Catamounts Close Out Season at 2017 NCAA East Preliminary

A pair of junior sprinters and a freshman jumper from the Western Carolina track & field program closed out their seasons Thursday night at the 2017 NCAA East Preliminary hosted by the University of Kentucky in Lexington, Ky. All three were making their first career appearances at the NCAA event.



Five Catamounts Qualify for NCAA East Preliminary Round

Western Carolina Track & Field Wins Several SoCon Postseason Honors

Western Carolina men's and women's track & field took home several postseason honors following the conclusion of the 2017 Southern Conference Outdoor Track & Field Championships announced the league's office Wednesday. The Catamounts picked up three honors on the men's side and two on the women's.



Small Group Competes at NC A&T Aggie Last Chance Meet

Seven Western Carolina track & field student-athletes travelled to Greensboro, N.C., Sunday to compete in the Aggie Last Chance meet hosted by North Carolina A&T. Two women and five men competed on Sunday with freshman Jazmine Gooden bringing home the top finish with a fourth place showing in the women's long jump.



Men Capture Victory, Women Finish Second at the SoCon Championships

For the second-straight year the Western Carolina men’s track & field team can call itself Southern Conference Outdoor Track & Field Champions as the Catamounts captured their seventh outdoor title and third in the last five years. The women came up just short on Friday finishing second to host Samford. The men won by just six points as they clinched the title in the final event of the day, the 4x400m relay. The Catamounts won the race while Samford finished fourth.



Catamounts in Second After Day One of SoCon Championships

The Western Carolina men’s and women’s track & field teams opened up competition at the 2017 Southern Conference Outdoor Track & Field Championships Thursday in Birmingham, Ala. WCU picked up two individual championships both on the women’s side while junior Keion Crossen was the top qualifier in the men’s 100m with a school record time of 10.33. Both the men and women trail Samford after day one. Samford leads the women’s side with 152 points while the Catamounts trail by 45 points at 107. Furman sits in third with 43 points. The men’s side is a four team race led by Samford with 107.5 points. WCU is in second at 87.5 while The Citadel sits in third with 73 points. The final team in contention after day one is ETSU with 69 points.



Track & Field Defends SoCon Outdoor Championships Thursday and Friday

The Western Carolina men's and women's track and field teams are set to defend their respective Southern Conference Outdoor Track & Field Championships. The Catamounts swept the titles last season at home but will have to hit the road for the 2017 crown. The 2017 Southern Conference Outdoor Track & Field Championships are set for Thursday and Friday (May 11-12). The championships will be hosted by Samford University at the Bulldogs' Track and Soccer Stadium in Birmingham, Ala. This year marks the 93rd annual championship for the men and 31st for the women.



Peretin and Cook Sweep SoCon Field Athlete of the Month Honors

Western Carolina track & field throwers Scott Peretin and Hailey Cook were named the Southern Conference Field Athletes of the Month for April. The honor is the third outdoor field athlete of the month Cook has won during her career and sixth all-time combining indoor and outdoor awards. This marks the first monthly honor of Peretin’s career. Cook was named the indoor field athlete of the month for January earlier this year.



Catamounts Earn Three SoCon Athlete of the Week Honors

Three Western Carolina track & field student-athletes were named Southern Conference Athlete of the Weeks, the league office announced Wednesday. Juniors Keion Crossen and Mateius Brown swept the men’s awards while senior Hailey Cook took home the women’s field athlete of the week honor.



School Record Falls on Senior Day

The Western Carolina men's and women's track & field teams honored nine seniors prior to the start of the 2017 WCU Invitational Presented by Catamount Travel Center Friday afternoon. Following the senior ceremony, the Catamounts turned in several impressive performances but the most impressive performance came from track & field newcomer Keion Crossen. Crossen, who is a member of the WCU football team, was competing in just his fourth collegiate meet and downed an eight-year old record in the 100m.
