Women’s Track & Field Opens Strong at Jack Pyrah Invitational

The track & field season is officially underway after Villanova opened the 2017-18 indoor campaign by hosting the Jack Pyrah Invitational at Haverford College on Saturday afternoon. Junior distance runner Nicole Hutchinson (West Vancouver, B.C.) led the Wildcats distance group with a first place finish in the 3000 meters, while junior Adeline Scelzi (Glen Allen, Va.) and senior Bridget Owen (Northborough, Mass.) tied for first place in the pole vault.

For the second time in the past two years, the Villanova track & field family came together to celebrate the program’s tradition and the generosity of Robert F. Moran ’72, who has made possible the opening of the track & field office suite in 2015 and brand new locker rooms for the track & field and cross country teams which were dedicated during a ribbon-cutting ceremony on Saturday afternoon.

A new academic year at Villanova marked the official arrivals to campus of a talented group of newcomers to the women’s track & field and cross country teams. With her latest recruiting class, Wildcats head coach Gina Procaccio has addressed several team needs while once again attracting some of the nation’s top talent to continue the program’s legacy of success both academically and in athletic competition.
