Danielle Burns Notches Pair of Fourth Place Finishes at Auburn

Sophomore sprinter Danielle Burns (Phoenix, Ariz.) and freshman Sarah Jones (Sewell, N.J.) competed for Villanova at the War Eagle Invitational on Saturday afternoon. Burns tallied fourth place finish in both the 100 meter hurdles and the 400 meter hurdles at Hutsell-Rosen track on the Auburn campus.

Amanda McNelis Places Fourth in Pole Vault at Larry Ellis Invitational

Freshman pole vaulter Amanda McNelis (Commack, N.Y.) tied for fourth place in the pole vault and sophomore Gloria Donou (East Brunswick, N.J.) recorded a 12th place finish in the triple jump as Villanova wrapped up competition at the Larry Ellis Invitational on Saturday afternoon. McNelis cleared a height of 3.50 meters in the pole vault, while Donou registered a distance of 10.83 meters in the triple jump.

Cleirigh Buttner and McArthur PR in 1500 Meters at Princeton

Despite uncommonly cold temperatures for late April and windy conditions at Weaver Stadium on Friday night, several Villanova middle distance runners raced to fast times in their respective events at the Larry Ellis Invitational. Senior Siofra Cleirigh Buttner (Dublin, Ireland) and freshman Rachel McArthur (Bristow, Va.) each recorded personal best times in the 1500 meters as the Wildcats opened their weekend slate with the elite sections of the 800 meters and the 1500 meters. Two field events were also on the Friday schedule, with the meet set to resume on Saturday morning.

Women's Track & Field Wins Four Events at Temple Owls Invite

Sophomore sprinters McKenna Keegan (West Grove, Pa.) and Danielle Burns (Phoenix, Ariz.) won the 400 meters and the 400 meter hurdles, respectively, at the Temple Owls Invite on Friday afternoon. Villanova competed against local teams in the Owls first-ever home meet at the Temple Sports Complex and finished second in the team standings with 124 points. The team recorded a total of 10 top-three finishes at the meet.

Women's Track & Field Sits Atop Team Standings at Colonial Relays

Freshman thrower Taryn Ashby (Pittston, Pa.) had Villanova's best finish of the day with a second place showing in the javelin and the Wildcats lead the team race after the close of competition at the 53rd annual Colonial Relays on Friday night. Villanova scored points in eight different events on Friday at Zable Stadium, highlighted by strong results in the sprints. The meet wraps up on Saturday afternoon.

Zimmerman Competes in Hammer on First Day at Colonial Relays

Junior thrower Alex Zimmerman (Lititz, Pa.) opened up the 53rd annual Colonial Relays for Villanova on Thursday afternoon by competing in the university section of the hammer. She threw for a distance of 32.86 meters, finishing ninth in her flight and 19th overall.

Pole Vault and Javelin Wrap Up Raleigh Relays for Wildcats

Competition wrapped up at the Raleigh Relays on Saturday afternoon with Villanova competing in a pair of field events. Freshman Amanda McNelis (Commack, N.Y.) won the college section of the pole vault with a height of 3.65 meters and fellow first-year competitor Taryn Ashby (Pittston, Pa.) finished fourth in the javelin with a mark of 44.53 meters.

Hutchinson Wins 5000 Meters at Raleigh Relays

Junior distance runner Nicole Hutchinson (West Vancouver, B.C.) ran one of the fastest 5000 meter races in school history in her very first collegiate 5K race at the Raleigh Relays on Friday night. Hutchinson recorded a time of 15:46.22 and crossed the finish line just over three seconds ahead of the runner-up from meet host North Carolina State. Her time is the fifth-fastest by a Wildcats runner in a race held during the collegiate season, and she is the first Villanova athlete in nearly six years to break 16 minutes in the 5000 meters.

Wildcats Start Outdoor Season Strong at Penn Challenge

Junior middle distance runner Nicole Hutchinson (West Vancouver, B.C.) paced eight Villanova athletes who ran the 1500 meters with a first place finish and a winning time of 4:18.69 at the Penn Challenge on Saturday afternoon. The first meet of the outdoor season was a successful one for the Wildcats, who also got first place finishes from freshman sprinter Sarah Jones (Sewell, N.J.) in the 100 meter hurdles and freshman thrower Taryn Ashby (Pittston, Pa.) in the javelin.

Siofra Cleirigh Buttner Earns First Team All-America Honors

Senior middle distance runner Siofra Cleirigh Buttner (Dublin, Ireland) was named a first team All-American for the 2017-18 indoor season by the United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) in an announcement made on Monday morning. Cleirigh Buttner is coming off a runner-up finish in the 800 meters at last week's NCAA Championships, and she is now an All-American for the sixth time in her collegiate career.

Senior middle distance runner Siofra Cleirigh Buttner (Dublin, Ireland) broke her own indoor school record in the 800 meters and notched a runner-up finish in the 800 meters at the NCAA Championships on Saturday evening. Cleirigh Buttner posted a time of 2:02.46, the best indoor time of her career, and became the first Villanova athlete in 30 years to finish as high as second in the 800 meters at the indoor national championships.

It took the second-fastest indoor time of her career and a photo finish for senior middle distance runner Siofra Cleirigh Buttner (Dublin, Ireland) to advance to the final of the 800 meters at the NCAA Championships on Friday night. Cleirigh Buttner finished in the top three of her semifinal heat at Gilliam Indoor Stadium to ensure an automatic qualifying spot for the final tomorrow evening. Her official time was 2:03.55 after the first two runners crossed the finish line in a virtual tie.

Women's track & field senior Siofra Cleirigh Buttner (Dublin, Ireland) and the men's track & field distance medley relay squad are set to compete in the indoor NCAA Championships at Gilliam Indoor Stadium in College Station, Texas this week. Women's Track & Field Earns 23 All-BIG EAST Selections at Conference Meet

On the heels of winning its record 15th indoor BIG EAST title over the weekend, Villanova had 14 student-athletes combine to earn 23 All-BIG EAST honors in an announcement made by the conference office on Tuesday afternoon. Last week's championship performance by the Wildcats included winning six events at the meet, with three individual conference champions in addition to a sweep of the three relays. Villanova has won three of its 15 indoor conference crowns in the last five years.

Women's Track & Field Wins Record 15th BIG EAST Championship

The race for a BIG EAST title came down to the very last event of the meet and the Villanova women's track & field team won its record 15th conference championship with the type of gritty performance that so many of its previous titles have come from. Six event titles, including a sweep of the relays for a second straight year, and 1-2-3 dominance in both the 800 meters and the Mile helped the Wildcats score 152 team points and edge Marquette by four points for the BIG EAST crown.
