Wildcats Earn Three BIG EAST Team Academic Excellence Awards

In an announcement on Wednesday afternoon of the BIG EAST Academic Excellence Awards, three Villanova teams earned recognition for having the highest collective grade-point average in their respective sport. The conference announced the 22 winners of the Excellence Awards, one in each BIG EAST-sponsored sport. The three Wildcats teams to be honored are men’s basketball, men’s indoor track & field and men’s outdoor track & field.



Logan Wetzel Wraps Up Collegiate Season at NCAA East Preliminary

Redshirt freshman Logan Wetzel (Saline, Mich.) closed out his first official year of collegiate competition on Saturday night with a 10th place finish in his national quarterfinal heat of the 1500 meters. Wetzel recorded a time of 3:58.63 on the final night of the NCAA East Preliminary at the Kentucky Outdoor Track & Field Complex after advancing out of the first round heats two nights earlier.

Ville Lampinen Places Seventh in Quarterfinal Heat of 800 Meters

Sophomore Ville Lampinen (Vantaa, Finland) wrapped up a strong collegiate season with a seventh place finish in his national quarterfinal heat of the 800 meters at the Kentucky Outdoor Track & Field Complex on Friday evening. Lampinen was a qualifier for the NCAA East Preliminary meet for the second straight season and was one of six on-time qualifiers for the quarterfinal round of the 800 meters after advancing out of the national first round on Thursday evening.



Wetzel and Lampinen Advance at NCAA East Preliminary

Redshirt freshman Logan Wetzel (Saline, Mich.) and sophomore Ville Lampinen (Vantaa, Finland) each advanced out of their national first round heats at the NCAA East Preliminary at the Kentucky Outdoor Track & Field Complex on Thursday evening. Wetzel was an automatic qualifier for the quarterfinal heats of the 1500 meters and Lampinen advanced on time to the quarterfinals of the 800 meters.



Casey Comber Earns Capital One Academic All-District Honors

Redshirt freshman distance runner Casey Comber (Maple Glen, Pa.) was recognized on the Capital One Academic All-District 2 squad which was announced on Thursday afternoon. The recognition includes accolades from cross country as well as the indoor and outdoor track & field seasons, and Comber will now move on to the national ballot for Capital One Academic All-America consideration.



Men’s Track & Field: Wetzel, Lampinen Head to NCAA East Preliminary

The accepted athletes for the NCAA preliminary meets were announced Thursday afternoon and Villanova will be represented by redshirt freshman Logan Wetzel (Saline, Mich.) and sophomore Ville Lampinen (Vantaa, Finland) at the East Preliminary meet in Lexington, Ky. next week. The regional meet runs from May 25-27 at the UK Outdoor Track and Field Complex on the Kentucky campus. Wetzel is a qualifier in the 1500 meters, while Lampinen will compete in the 800 meters for the second straight year.

Men’s Track & Field Earns 16 All-BIG EAST Honors

The official list of all-conference performers from last weekend’s outdoor BIG EAST Championships was announced on Tuesday afternoon, and the Villanova men’s track & field team had 11 student-athletes combine to earn 16 All-BIG EAST honors during the conference meet. Headlining the list were the three athletes who won individual events during the meet, as well as the Wildcats champion 4x800 meter relay squad.



Cartwright, Wetzel and 4x800 Meter Relay Win BIG EAST Titles

Redshirt freshman Logan Wetzel (Saline, Mich.) won the BIG EAST title in the 1500 meters and also anchored Villanova to a championship in the 4x800 meter relay as the BIG EAST Championships wrapped up at a cold and wet Villanova Stadium on Saturday afternoon. Senior sprinter Kyle Cartwright (Oyster Bay, N.Y.) was the champion of the 400 meter hurdles for the second time in his career and the Wildcats finished third in the team standings to make the awards podium for the fourth straight year.

Conboy and Judge Star on First Day of BIG EAST Championships

Freshman Thomas Conboy (Saratoga Springs, N.Y.) won the BIG EAST title in the pole vault and sophomore thrower Jack Judge (Palisades, N.Y.) was the runner-up in the javelin as the BIG EAST Championships got underway at Villanova Stadium on Friday afternoon. With seven events scored, the Wildcats have 36 points and are in third place going into tomorrow’s second and final day of action.



Villanova to Host BIG EAST Track & Field Championships This Weekend

One of the biggest weekends of the track & field season is on tap at Villanova Stadium this week, as the Villanova men's track & field team sets its sights on the outdoor BIG EAST Track & Field Championships presented by Jeep. The conference championship returns to Villanova Stadium for the sixth time in the last 10 years this Friday and Saturday when seven men's and eight women's teams converge on the Main Line.



Wildcats Score Two Wins at Jim Kehoe Invitational

Sophomore Ville Lampinen (Vantaa, Finland) and redshirt freshman Logan Wetzel (Saline, Mich.) won the 800 meters and the 1500 meters, respectively, at the Jim Kehoe Invitational at Maryland’s Kehoe Track & Field Complex on Friday night. Villanova had a total of six athletes competing in the meet.

Competition Wraps Up at Lions Invitational

Wildcats Get Underway at Lions Invitational

A pair of throwing events made up the schedule for the first day of the Lions Invitational as Villanova got underway in two days of competition at the TCNJ Track & Field Complex. Sophomore thrower Jack Judge (Palisades, N.Y.) recorded his second personal best in the javelin in as many weeks to lead the Wildcats results on Friday afternoon.



Penn Relays: Men’s 4x800 Meter Relay Finishes Fourth

In the team’s final race of the weekend, Villanova finished fourth in the men’s Championship of America 4x800 meter relay at Franklin Field on Saturday afternoon. Redshirt freshman Logan Wetzel (Saline, Mich.), sophomore Harry Purcell (Dublin, Ireland), junior Ishmael Muhammad (Mays Landing, N.J.) and sophomore Ville Lampinen (Vantaa, Finland) registered a time of 7:21.18 in a race packed with some of the nation’s top teams.
