Villanova had six sprinters competing in the War Eagle Invitational at Auburn on Saturday afternoon. The top results for the Wildcats included a runner-up finish in the 4x400 meter relay and a third place showing for junior Ville Lampinen (Vantaa, Finland) in the 800 meters.

Sophomore distance runner Casey Comber (Maple Glen, Pa.) paid no heed to the breezy and uncommonly cold late-April conditions at the Larry Ells Invitational on Friday night, as he won the elite section of the 1500 meters and set a new personal best time in the process. Comber and fifth-year senior teammate Ben Malone (River Vale, N.J.) were separated by less than half a second at the finish line.

Villanova recorded several strong finishes and sat atop the team standings at the Temple Owls Invite on Friday afternoon. Several local teams converged on the Temple Sports Complex for the Owls first-ever home meet, with the Wildcats scoring 153 points thanks to 12 top-three finishes. Villanova competed primarily in the sprints and field events during the local meet. Junior thrower Jack Judge (Palisades, N.Y.) and freshman jumper Vincent Sengelmann finished first in the javelin and the long jump, respectively.

Fifth-year senior Ben Malone (River Vale, N.J.) was the individual champion of the 1500 meters as Villanova competed at the 53rd annual Colonial Relays on Friday afternoon. His winning time of 3:45.63 paced a field of 86 competitors and highlighted the Wildcats results at Zable Stadium on the first full day of the meet. Villanova also scored team points in the 800 meters, the shot put and the javelin. The meet concludes on Saturday with the remainder of the field events as well as the relay races for which the meet is known.

The 4x400 meter relay squad which consisted of freshman Amir Brock (Egg Harbor Twp., N.J.), freshman Brian Faust (Stone Mountain, Ga.), junior Ville Lampinen (Vantaa, Finland) and freshman Keegan Hughes (Malvern, Pa.) finished fourth in the final of the 4x400 meter relay at the Florida Relays on Saturday afternoon. Villanova recorded a time of 3:11.45 in the final after qualifying in the preliminary heats a day earlier.

Sophomore distance runner Casey Comber (Maple Glen, Pa.) led four Villanova runners with a time of 14:06.90 in the 5000 meters at the Raleigh Relays, and the Wildcats also posted strong results in the 10000 meters and the 3000 meter steeplechase on Friday evening. Those races were part of a busy day for Villanova, which also had athletes competing at the Florida Relays.

Freshman sprinter Amir Brock (Egg Harbor Twp., N.J.) paced a field of 14 runners, half of them wearing a Villanova shirt, with a winning time of 48.39 in the 400 meters as the Wildcats got the outdoor track & field season underway on Saturday afternoon. Villanova competed in four sprint events and seven field events during the Penn Challenge held at Franklin Field on a chilly but sunny afternoon.

Villanova earned first team All-America honors in the men's distance medley relay in an announcement made by the United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) on Monday morning. A lineup that included senior Ben Malone (River Vale, N.J.), freshman Brian Faust (Stone Mountain, Ga.), junior Harry Purcell (Dublin, Ireland) and sophomore Casey Comber (Maple Glen, Pa.) finished eighth in the DMR at the NCAA Championships last weekend to continue the Wildcats tradition in the relay.

One of the longest-standing traditions for the men's track & field team at the indoor NCAA Championships continued on Friday night as Villanova scored in the distance medley relay with an eighth place finish at Gilliam Indoor Stadium. A quartet that consisted of fifth-year senior Ben Malone (River Vale, N.J.), freshman Brian Faust (Stone Mountain, Ga.), junior Harry Purcell (Dublin, Ireland) and sophomore Casey Comber (Maple Glen, Pa.) posted a time of 9:35.49 in a tight and physical 12-team race.

Women's track & field senior Siofra Cleirigh Buttner (Dublin, Ireland) and the men's track & field distance medley relay squad are set to compete in the indoor NCAA Championships at Gilliam Indoor Stadium in College Station, Texas this week. On the heels of winning its four indoor BIG EAST title in the last five seasons, Villanova had 18 student-athletes combine to earn 25 All-BIG EAST honors in an announcement made by the conference office on Tuesday afternoon. Last week's championship performance by the Wildcats included winning five events at the meet, with two individual conference champions in addition to a sweep of the three relays. Villanova has won a total of seven indoor BIG EAST crowns.

With sensational performances across the board in a conference meet that came down to the wire, Villanova surged to its seventh BIG EAST title in memorable fashion at Ocean Breeze Track & Field Athletic Complex on Saturday afternoon. Five event victories, including a sweep of the relays, pushed the Wildcats to the indoor BIG EAST crown for the fourth time in the last five years and the seventh time overall. Head coach Marcus O'Sullivan and his staff were voted the BIG EAST Coaching Staff of the Year.

The men's and women's track & field teams are headed for the BIG EAST Championships this week, as the conference meet will be held on Friday and Saturday at Ocean Breeze Athletic Complex in Staten Island, N.Y. It is the third straight year that the indoor conference championships will be held at the venue, and all of the action will once again be carried live on the BIG EAST Digital Network.
