Baseball. Baseball Closes the Season on a High Note, Tops No. 20 St. John’s, 9-6

Freshman relief pitchers Ryan Pfutzenreuter (Deerfield, Ill.) and Tyler Arella (East Northport, N.Y.) combined to pitch four hitless innings of relief and Villanova (14-33, 5-13 BIG EAST) and the offense mounted a pair of big rallies to overcome No. 20 St. John’s (40-9, 13-5 BIG EAST) by a final score of 9-6 at Jack Kaiser Stadium on Saturday afternoon. The win is the first over a ranked opponent since 2012 for the Wildcats, who closed out the 2017 season on a high note. Villanova overcame deficits of 3-0 and 6-4 in the game, and scored the go-ahead run in the seventh inning.

Baseball. Villanova Drops Game Two of Conference Series to St. John's, 6-0

The game was scoreless up until the fifth inning when St. John's (40-8, 13-4 BIG EAST) scored five runs to break open the game on Friday afternoon at Jack Kaiser Stadium in Queens, N.Y. The Wildcats (13-33, 4-13 BIG EAST) were able to produce seven hits, while junior Ryan Doty (Rye, N.Y.) was able to control the Red Storm for four innings against an impressive offensive lineup.

General News. Wildcats Class of 2017 Celebrated at Annual Senior Reception

On the eve of graduation, the student-athletes of the Class of 2017 were feted at an annual reception held at the Connelly Center on Thursday evening. The collective accomplishments of the Villanova senior class were celebrated and each team's seniors received their gifts at the awards podium. Men's cross country athlete Patrick Tiernan and women's swimmer Emily Mayo took home top honors as the Senior Student-Athletes of the Year, while men's lacrosse player Michael Waterfield was the winner of the Sister Mary Margaret Cribben Award.

Baseball. Early Burst of Runs Costs Villanova 15-1 Loss to No. 20 St. John's

An early seven run inning helped the St. John's Red Storm (39-8, 12-4 BIG EAST) cruise past Villanova (13-32, 4-12 BIG EAST) in BIG EAST Conference play at Jack Kaiser Stadium in Queens N.Y. on Thursday afternoon. Despite the loss, the Wildcats were able to produce one run on ten hits. Sophomore Juan De La Espriella (Westin, Fla.) entered the game in the sixth inning and went two for two on the day.

Field Hockey. Wildcats Named One of Thirteen Programs With Perfect APR

The Villanova field hockey team continues to succeed in the classroom as they were named one of thirteen schools who received NCAA Public Recognition Awards. The Wildcats received a perfect APR score of 1,000.



W. Track & Field. Women’s Track & Field Sends Four Athletes to NCAA East Preliminary

The accepted athletes for the NCAA preliminary meets were announced Thursday afternoon and Villanova will have four women’s distance runners headed to the East Preliminary meet in Lexington, Ky. next week. The regional meet runs from May 25-27 at the UK Outdoor Track and Field Complex on the Kentucky campus. Fifth-year senior Angel Piccirillo (Homer City, Pa.) and sophomore Nicole Hutchinson (West Vancouver, B.C.) will each run the 1500 meters, while junior Siofra Cleirigh Buttner (Dublin, Ireland) and sophomore Bella Burda (Pleasant Valley, N.Y.) are qualifiers in the 800 meters and the 10000 meters, respectively.



M. Track & Field. Men’s Track & Field: Wetzel, Lampinen Head to NCAA East Preliminary

The accepted athletes for the NCAA preliminary meets were announced Thursday afternoon and Villanova will be represented by redshirt freshman Logan Wetzel (Saline, Mich.) and sophomore Ville Lampinen (Vantaa, Finland) at the East Preliminary meet in Lexington, Ky. next week. The regional meet runs from May 25-27 at the UK Outdoor Track and Field Complex on the Kentucky campus. Wetzel is a qualifier in the 1500 meters, while Lampinen will compete in the 800 meters for the second straight year.

Softball. Brette Lawrence Named To NFCA All-Region Third Team

Villanova senior Brette Lawrence was selected to the NFCA Mideast Region Third Team, as announced by the organization on Thursday. Lawrence had a stellar final season for the Wildcats, accumulating a 25-11 record on the mound with a 2.79 ERA.



Baseball. Weekend Preview: Villanova Heads to St. John's for Conference Finale

The Villanova baseball team will travel to St. John's for the last conference series of the year. This series will also close out the regular season for the Wildcats. St. John's is currently in the top 25 Division I Baseball rankings at number 20.



W. Track & Field. Women’s Track & Field Earns 20 All-BIG EAST Honors

The official list of all-conference performers from last weekend’s outdoor BIG EAST Championships was announced on Tuesday afternoon, and the Villanova women’s track & field team had 14 student-athletes combine to earn 20 All-BIG EAST honors during the conference meet. Headlining the list were six athletes who earned all-conference recognition in both an individual event and a relay.



M. Track & Field. Men’s Track & Field Earns 16 All-BIG EAST Honors

The official list of all-conference performers from last weekend’s outdoor BIG EAST Championships was announced on Tuesday afternoon, and the Villanova men’s track & field team had 11 student-athletes combine to earn 16 All-BIG EAST honors during the conference meet. Headlining the list were the three athletes who won individual events during the meet, as well as the Wildcats champion 4x800 meter relay squad.



Baseball. Bats Break Out, But Villanova Falls 11-5 to Penn State

The bats broke out for the Wildcats (13-31) in the top of the second inning at Medlar Field at Lubrano Park against Penn State (17-35) on Tuesday evening, but Villanova was defeated 11-5. Doug deMarrais (Bernardsville, N.J.) went three for four on the day with one RBI, while freshman Dominic Sarro (North Riverside, Ill.) had two hits and two RBI.
