Schwab finishes 6th at WATC, leads Austria to third-place finish

Senior Matthias Schwab once again proved he is one of the world’s top amateur golfers after finishing in sixth place individually at the World Amateur Team Championship in Riviera Maya, Mexico, with a final total of 11-under, 275 (67-72-69-67). Schwab helped push his native Austria to third-place among 71 teams participating in the four-day event with a final score of -18-under par, 554 (139-140-138-137).

Senior Matthias Schwab will compete in the World Amateur Team Championship Wednesday through Saturday for Austria in Riviera Maya, Mexico, at the Mayakoba El Camaleon and Iberostar Play Paraiso golf courses.

VU finishes 4th at Pebble Beach

Senior Matthias Schwab and junior Theo Humphrey each finished the Carmel Cup with a three-round total of 208 to lead the Commodores at the Pebble Beach Golf Links event. Schwab and Humphrey each finished in a tie for fifth, and as a team, Vanderbilt finished in fourth at the eight-team event with a total of 1056 (356-347-353).

Junior Theo Humphrey shot a four-under par, 68, in his second round at the Carmel Cup and leads the Commodores on the individual leaderboard with a two-round total of 138 (70-68), which places him in fifth individually. As a team, Vanderbilt is in fourth place with a team score of 703 (356-347) after two rounds.

VU in 5th after first round of Carmel Cup

Junior Theo Humphrey and freshman John Augenstein each carded a two-under par, 70, on Friday in the first round of the sixth annual Carmel Cup at the legendary Pebble Beach Golf Links in Pebble Beach, Calif. As a team, Vanderbilt counted a five-man total of four-under par, 356, in the first round and are in fifth place on the team leader board heading into Saturday’s play.

Snedeker earns Ryder Cup nod

Former Commodore Brandt Snedeker has qualified for the 2016 Ryder Cup at Hazeltine National Golf Club in Chaska, MInn., this September 27-October 2 after his finish at The Barclays this weekend at Bethpage Black. Snedeker will join seven other players, Dustin Johnson, Jordan Spieth, Phil Mickelson, Jimmy Walker, Brooks Koepka, Zach Johnson, and Patrick Reed as the United States’ eight automatic qualifiers. Captain Davis Love III also has four captain’s picks at his disposal for the competition in the fall.

Curran, List, Snedeker prepare for PGA FedEx Cup playoffs

Vanderbilt senior golfer Matthias Schwab advanced to the round-of-64 match-play portion of the U.S. Amateur on Tuesday after finishing the two-round stroke-play part of the tournament in a tie for 11th with a two-under par, 138 (69-69) at the Oakland Hills Country Club in Bloomfield Hills, Mich. Sophomore Will Gordon, who finished with a two-over par, 142 (70-72), in stroke play, will participate in a playoff Wednesday morning at 8 a.m. with 22 others for a spot in the round of 64.

East Lake Cup details set

The Commodore men’s golf team will participate in the 2016 edition of the East Lake Cup presented by Hewlett Packard Enterprise, a three day tournament October 31 through November 2nd at the East Lake Club in Atlanta, Ga., that features four of collegiate golf’s best teams and three days of live coverage on the Golf Channel.

Gordon advances to semifinals of Western Amateur

Vanderbilt rising sophomore Will Gordon stormed back from three down on Friday in the quarterfinals of the Western Amateur to defeated Braden Bailey, 1-up, to advance to the semifinals of the prestigious amateur event, a tournament which has seen the likes of Phil Mickelson, Justin Leonard, Ryan Moore, and Tiger Woods have raised the championship trophy.
