Vanderbilt’s Larry Austin, Jr., and Kentucky’s Alyssa Rice have been voted chairs of the Southeastern Conference Men’s and Women’s Basketball Leadership Councils, it was announced Thursday by the league office.

2017 Hall of Fame: Matt Freije

Freije, a member of the 2017 Vanderbilt Hall of Fame class, played for the Dores from 2000-04 and left as the school’s all-time leading scorer (1,891 points). In 2004, Freije led the Commodores to the Sweet 16 for the first time since 1993. That year the 6-10 forward averaged 18.4 points per game en route to All-SEC and All-America honors.



NIT Season Tip-Off Ticket Information

The NIT Season Tip-Off will return to the Barclays Center for a third-straight season Thanksgiving Week 2017, with games on Thursday, Nov. 23 and Friday, Nov. 24, featuring four NCAA Tournament teams.



2017-18 MBB schedule complete

Vanderbilt’s 2017-18 men’s basketball schedule is now complete after the Southeastern Conference released the conference portion of the schedule on Thursday. The Commodores will take on Kentucky, Tennessee, Florida, LSU, and Mississippi State in home-and-home series and play four other league home games against Alabama, Georgia, Texas A&M, and Missouri at Memorial Gym.



Commodores drop USVI finale, 81-74

Freshman Maxwell Evans scored 19 points on five made three-point baskets, but it was not enough to overcome Canadian collegiate powerhouse Carleton, as the Ravens came away with an 81-74 victory over the Commodores in their U.S. Virgin Islands Tour finale at the University of the Virgin Islands. Vanderbilt played without the services of seniors Matthew Fisher-Davis, Riley LaChance, and Jeff Roberson, who were given the night off by Commodore head coach Bryce Drew.



Dores knock off Brock U., 104-90

Senior Matthew Fisher-Davis scored 22 points and led five Commodore players in double figures in a 104-90 victory over Brock University Wednesday night in the fifth day of their U.S. Virgin Islands foreign tour. Saben Lee (18), Maxwell Evans (12), Payton Willis (11), and Jeff Roberson (10) also added double digit scoring in the Commodore win.



Day Four: Virgin Islands

Day four of the Commodores' tour of the U.S. Virgin Islands was their only scheduled day off of the trip, and the team and travel party made the most of the day, spending the morning on a turtle cruise off in the waters off of St. Thomas and the afternoon catching up on some sleep before going into Charlotte Amalie for the first time for dinner.

Senior Matthew Fisher-Davis scored 17 points and junior guard Larry Austin, Jr., added 14 points in game two of the Commodores’ tour of the U.S. Virgin Islands in a 61-56 defeat at the hands of defending Canadian national champion Carleton Monday evening at the University of the Virgin Islands.



Commodores fall 81-78 to USVI National Team

The USVI National Team rallied late behind a game-high 20 points from Cuthbert Victor to escape with an 81-78 victory over Vanderbilt in a summer exhibition game in St. Croix, Virgin Islands, the Commodores' first of four on their foreign tour of the U.S. Virgin Islands. The Commodores were led by senior Matthew Fisher-Davis, who scored 15 points, and junior guard Larry Austin, Jr., who added 14 points.

Commodores to play Virginia at NIT Season Tip-Off

The Commodores will begin the NIT Season Tip-Off on Thanksgiving Day, November 23 with a matchup against ACC power Virginia at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, N.Y., at 3 p.m. CT in a game that will air on ESPNU. Seton Hall and Rhode Island will play in the other matchup after Vanderbilt’s game with Virginia.



MBB preps for summer trip to U.S. Virgin Islands

MBB releases 2017-18 non-conference schedule

The 2017-18 Vanderbilt men’s basketball non-conference schedule has been set, and the Commodores, who played the number one strength of schedule in 2016-17, are at it again in 2017-18, with nine of their potential games against teams who played in the postseason a year ago. Six possible opponents, USC, Rhode Island, Seton Hall, Virginia, Kansas State, and Middle Tennessee, all played in the 2017 NCAA Tournament, with NIT participant Belmont, 2017 NIT Champion TCU, and CollegeInsider.com Tournament team UNC Asheville also on the challenging slate.
