HATTIESBURG, Miss – Jayla King was part of the consistent foundation for the Lady Eagles last season. The Pensacola, Fla. native started every game, averaging 28.3 minutes a game. King also led the team in every rebounding statistic and notched a team-leading five double-doubles.

HATTIESBURG, Miss – Shonte Hailes, much like her classmate Respect Leaphart, was thrown into the refiners’ fire her freshman year. Hailes was going to see a lot of touches with only one other ball dominant guard on the team. The sophomore appeared in every game her freshman campaign and started 29 of them. She also registered points on the stat sheet every game except three.

HATTIESBURG, Miss – Respect Leaphart wasn’t sure what to expect her freshman year but, at 6-foot-0, she was the tallest-listed player, so Coach Joye Lee-McNelis was going to play her right out of the gate. The sophomore played in every contest of her freshman year, logging 20 minutes or more in 10 games, and played a career-high 24 minutes in four different matchups.



Lady Eagle Basketball Turns Page for 2017-18 Season

HATTIESBURG, Miss – The 2016-17 Southern Miss Women’s Basketball saw a return to business-as-usual status. The Lady Eagles reached the Conference USA Championship game for the third time in four years, Coach Joye Lee-McNelis received Coach of the Year honors, Brittanny Dinkins was named the C-USA Defensive Player of the Year, along with First Team and All-Defensive Team nods, Shonte Hailes made the All-Freshman team, the team won more than 20 games for the fifteenth time in program history and the Lady Eagles made the sixth WNIT appearance in program history.
