In another intense, down-to-the wire NCAA clash, the USC women's water polo team saw No. 2 Stanford sneak ahead in the fourth quarter and hold on to claim an 11-10 NCAA Semifinal win over the Trojans in a rematch of last year's epic national championship game. The loss leaves the Trojans with a 29-4 overall record as their 2017 campaign comes to a close.

The USC women's water polo team issued a depth charge in today's NCAA Tournament opener, notching 10 Trojans on the scoresheet while all three USC goalies hauled in a combined 21 saves to register a 12-6 win over Michigan and advance to the NCAA Semifinals. USC goes to 29-3 overall with the win and earns a place in tomorrow's semifinals against Stanford at 5 p.m. ET at IU Natatorium in Indianapolis, Ind.

No. 3 Seed USC Battles For Back-To-Back NCAA Titles

The No. 3 ranked and seeded USC women's water polo team takes aim at the program's first back-to-back national championships and a sixth overall crown for the Trojans this week as USC (28-3) engages in NCAA Championship action for the 14th straight year. The Women of Troy are looking to add the 2017 trophy to their 1999, 2004, 2010, 2013 and 2016 titles. The 2017 National Collegiate Women's Water Polo Championships will take place in Indianapolis, Ind., at the IU Natatorium. The No. 3 seeded Trojans will open things with an NCAA Quarterfinal matchup against Michigan (28-8) at 5:15 p.m. ET on Friday (May 12). A win there puts USC in a 5 p.m. ET semifinal bout on Saturday (May 13), which will decide who goes on to play for it all. On Sunday (May 15), the NCAA Championship match is set for 3 p.m., ET. All games will have live streaming coverage on with Greg Mescall providing coverage.

Six Trojans Land All-MPSF Honors

The USC women's water polo team has secured six All-MPSF honorees for the second straight season, led by repeat All-MPSF First Team honors for senior Stephania Haralabidis. It's a balanced group of Trojans on the awards list this year, with three seniors, one sophomore and two freshmen grabbing places on the All-MPSF honor roll. On the All-MPSF Second Team sit seniors Brigitta Games and Ioanna Haralabidis, along with sophomore goalie Amanda Longan and freshman Maud Megens. Megens and fellow freshman Denise Mammolito also have earned spots on the MPSF All-Newcomer Team. Additionally, Games and Stephania Haralabidis each earned MPSF All-Tournament Team accolades for their efforts at last weekend's tourney.

Defending National Champs Open 2017 NCAA Tourney As No. 3 Seed

The USC women’s water polo team charges up for its 14th consecutive NCAA appearance in search of the program’s first back-to-back national championships. The Women of Troy enter the 2017 tourney as the defending champs after last year’s undefeated run to the title. Now, USC goes on the hunt for a sixth national championship after picking up the No. 3 seed into this year’s tournament, which will be held May 12-14 in Indianapolis at IU Natatorium. The Trojans open the tourney against Michigan at 5:15 p.m. ET on May 12 to fight for a spot in the May 13 semis and on to the May 14 title match, which is set for 3 p.m. ET.

The No. 3 USC women’s water polo team came through in the clutch with a comeback push to beat No. 5 California 8-6 and claim third place in the MPSF Championships today in Westwood. Up by two at the end of the third, the Trojans saw the Golden Bears battle back and take a one-goal lead in the fourth frame before USC regrouped and rattled off three unanswered goals in the last four minutes to secure a key victory for the Trojan cause. Now 28-3 overall, USC awaits the bracket announcement for the NCAA Championships, which will be revealed on Monday (May 1).

The No. 3 USC women’s water polo team got back in stride in clinging tight to No. 2 Stanford in today’s MPSF Semifinals, but the Cardinal was able to get the goals it needed to fend off the Trojans, emerging with a 6-5 victory in Westwood. USC had the game locked up in midway through the third period, only to see Stanford strike back to keep the upper hand and hold it the rest of the way. The loss puts the Trojans at 27-3 overall and moves USC into tomorrow’s (April 30) third-place game against either No. 4 seeded Cal or top-seeded host UCLA at 12:45 p.m. at Spieker Aquatics Center in Westwood.

The No. 3 USC water polo team was decisive in securing a noter semifinal spot at the MPSF Tournament, rattling off 11 straight goals out of the gates en route to a 17-2 victory over No. 14 San José State today in Westwood. The quarterfinal win saw 12 different Trojans hit the back of the net, led by senior captain Avery Peterson's three-goal day. The win puts USC at 27-2 overall and carries the Trojans on to tomorrow's 12:45 p.m. semifinal against No. 2 Stanford at UCLA's Spieker Aquatics Center.

The USC women's water polo team enters the 2017 MPSF Championships as the defending champ and holds the No. 3 seed into this year's edition of the tourney. This week at UCLA's Spieker Aquatics Center in Westwood, all seven MPSF teams will do battle for the title and an automatic NCAA berth. The No. 3 Trojans (26-2) open up the event with a quarterfinal clash against No. 6 seed San José State at 12:45 p.m. on Friday (April 28). A win there would put USC into a 12:45 p.m. semifinal against either No. 2 seed Stanford or No. 7 seed CSU Bakersfield on Saturday (April 29) to fight for the right to defend their crown in the championship bout on Sunday (April 30) at 2 p.m. The third-place game will be held at 12:45 p.m. that day. USC has reached the MPSF final nine times and has won four previous MPSF Tournament titles — 2004, 2009 2013 and 2016. All games will be streamed live by FloSwimming.

No. 2 USC Drops MPSF Regular-Season Finale At No. 1 UCLA

The No. 2 USC women’s water polo team carved a five-goal deficit down to two on two occasions in the second half, but top-ranked UCLA found the goals it needed to keep the Trojans at bay in today’s regular-sason finale in Westwood. The 11-7 loss to the Bruins gives USC a 26-2 overall record and a 5-2 finish in MPSF play to secure the No. 3 seed into the coming MPSF Tournament, which runs April 28-30 in Westwood.

With postseason play just around the corner, this weekend's regular-season finale will paint a clearer picture of the terrain ahead for USC and the rest of the MPSF's heavy hitters. On Saturday (April 22), the No. 2 Trojans (26-1, 4-1 MPSF) head across town for a 1 p.m. crosstown splashdown at No. 1 UCLA (19-1, 5-0). The rivalry bout puts the MPSF regular-season title and key seedings for the coming conference tourney on the line. The game will be televised on Pac-12 Los Angeles with Adam Krikorian and Greg Mescall on the call.

No. 2 USC Fires Back For 6-3 Win At No. 5 Cal

The No. 2 USC women’s water polo team found the surge it needed to power out of a slow first half in Berkeley today, firing off four goals in the third period to net a 6-3 comeback win over No. 5 host California. Ioanna Haralabidis, Brigitta Games and Maud Megens each scored twice in the win, while goalie Amanda Longan collected 11 saves. With her pair of goals today, Games moved up USC’s all-time scoring ladder to crack the top-20, now at No. 19 all-time with 120 career goals. The road victory is a key lift for the Women of Troy, who improve to 26-1 overall and to 4-1 in MPSF play with the result, while Cal goes to 14-7, 2-4.
