The Trojans cranked up their scoring output and shoved out ahead of host No. 6 Long Beach State to finish out a 13-8 final victory over the 49ers. The win improves the Trojans’ overall record to 16-1.

Sun, 16 Oct 2016 15:32:00 EDTThe No. 3 USC men’s water polo team manufactured a five-goal scoring rally to put visiting No. 7 UC Santa Barbara out of reach in the first half before tightening up its defense in the second to lock down a 16-6 win over the Gauchos today at Uytengsu Aquatics Center. Blake Edwards scored three goals for the Trojans during that crucial five-goal surge and later tacked up the final goal of the half. That last strike by Edwards registered the junior’s 100th career goal as a Trojan, making him the 33rd USC player to join the 100-goal club at Troy. The scoring would settle down in the second half while the USC defense went on lockdown, shutting out UCSB in the fourth to finish out the win and take the Trojans to a 15-1 overall record.

Led by a four-goal game from Matteo Morelli and hat tricks from Lachlan Edwards and Blake Edwards, the Trojans stayed the course to another big victory. For the 13th time this season, the USC defense held its opponent scoreless for at least one full period, as the Trojans improve to 14-1 overall with today's nonconference victory.
Fri, 07 Oct 2016 19:42:00 EDTThe No. 3 USC men's water polo team paired smothering defense with a widespread offensive attack to pin up a 15-4 win over visiting No. 8 Pepperdine tonight at Uytengsu Aquatics Center. While 10 different Trojans plugged in goals on the offensive end, the USC defense either snagged steals, served up field blocks or sat back and enjoyed a stellar goalkeeping performance by junior McQuin Baron. On Baron's third stop of the night, he took over at No. 2 on USC's all-time career saves chart. But there were plenty more saves still left in Baron's arsenal, as he turned away almost all of Pepperdine's power plays while amassing a 14-save night for the USC defense.

Ten different Trojans contributed to the scoring onslaught, while goalie McQuin Baron crept even closer to the No. 2 all-time career saves slot as he collected 14 saves on the defensive end. He’s now two saves away from locking even with Kevin Stringer at No. 2 in the USC history books. Today’s win over the Tigers takes the Trojans to 12-1 overall on the year.

In back-to-back action, the Trojans first issued a 21-2 decision over Concordia before turning right around and matching that offensive output in a 21-3 victory over Fresno Pacific. Sixteen different Trojans contributed to the scoring onslaught across the two games as USC improved to 11-1 overall with the victorious day. The Trojans will return home now, setting up for tomorrow’s 1 p.m. clash against No. 4 Pacific at Uytengsu Aquatics Center.

Once that road work is complete, the Trojans return to home waters to host the No. 4 Pacific (11-2) at 1 p.m. on Saturday (Oct. 1) at Uytengsu Aquatics Center.
