USC’s Holt/Smith Wrap NCAA Run In Round of 32

The USC men’s tennis team’s time in Athens, Ga., has come to a close after an NCAA Doubles loss today at the Dan Magill Tennis Complex. USC’s #14-ranked freshman pairing of Brandon Holt and Riley Smith were up against the nation’s #7 team in the opening Round of 32 today, taking a loss that wraps the pair’s strong opening season as Trojans.



Brandon Holt Falls In NCAA First Round In Three-Setter

USC's #19-ranked freshman Brandon Holt was dealt just his ninth singles loss of his first season as a Trojan today, falling in his NCAA Singles debut in Athens, Ga. His 2016-17 campaign is not over, however, as Holt teams back up with his fellow freshman teammate Riley Smith tomorrow (May 25) for the NCAA Doubles Round of 32. The pair is ranked #14 in the nation and is coming off an upset win over the nation's top-ranked doubles pair, which the Trojans topped on court one during an eventual NCAA Team Round of 16 lost to host Georgia last week.



USC Freshmen Brandon Holt & Riley Smith Set Up For NCAA Play

Two Trojan freshmen have earned themselves an extended stay in Athens, Ga., as Brandon Holt and Riley Smith open their USC careers with spots secured in the NCAA Individual Championships. Holt pulls double duty with an at-large selection into the NCAA Singles bracket while also snagging an at-large position in the NCAA Doubles draw alongside fellow freshman Smith. Holt will make his NCAA Singles debut on Wednesday (May 24) with a 9 a.m. ET First Round matchup against Texas Tech’s Jolan Cailleau, offering up a rematch of a rare upset dealt to Holt by the Red Raider when the teams met back in March. On Thursday (May 25), Holt and Smith will open up against 5-8 seed Cash/Kadhe of Oklahoma State in the NCAA Doubles First Round. All the NCAA competition is being held at Georgia’s Dan Magill Tennis Complex in Athens, Ga.



No. 4 USC Men Take Tough Round of 16 Loss To NCAA Host Georgia

Up against the tournament hosts and a hometown crowd, the No. 4 USC men’s tennis team was edged out 4-3 in the NCAA Round of 16 by No. 13 seeded Georgia for the second straight season. The loss ends a run of 12 straight wins by the Trojans on the courts of Dan Magill Tennis Complex in Athens, Ga., and leaves USC with a 27-6 overall record.



No. 4 USC Men Back In Familiar Territory For NCAA Action In Athens

The No. 4 Trojans (27-5) return to one of their favorite cities to play NCAA tennis this week, settling in at the courts of Georgia's Dan Magill Tennis Complex in Athens, Ga. USC has won three of its past five national championships in Athens (2010, 2012, 2014). After a couple years away from the city, the Trojans are locked in for a return trip to the NCAA Round of 16 and beyond in Athens. After two wins in the opening rounds at Marks Stadium, USC is lined up for face NCAA host Georgia in the Round of 16 at 4 p.m. ET on Thursday (May 18). It's the Trojans' 11th straight trip to the NCAA Round of 16, and offers up a rematch of last year's NCAA battle between USC and UGA, which the Bulldogs won that one 4-3 in Tulsa, Okla. This year, USC boasts the No. 4 seed into this 2017 NCAA Championship action, while host Georgia is seeded No. 13 in the draw. A victory in that Thursday Round of 16 bout would send USC into the Quarterfinals at 4 p.m. ET on Saturday (May 20). The NCAA Semifinals are set for Monday (May 22) and the NCAA Championship match is at 1 p.m. ET on Tuesday (May 23).

USC freshman Brandon Holt is no secret weapon any more for the USC men’s tennis team. The Trojans’ top gun in singles and doubles leads the team in wins in both realms. He’s also doubled up on awards from the ITA, now very much lodged on the radar of the collegiate tennis world as the ITA Southwest Region’s Rookie of the Year and Player to Watch.

No. 4 USC Men Open NCAA Campaign On Home Courts

The No. 4 Trojans (25-5) are locked in for their 11th consecutive NCAA appearance as USC boasts the No. 4 seed into this 2017 NCAA Championship action. The highly seeded Trojans will start their postseason push with home-court advantage, hosting the NCAA First and Second Rounds this week (May 12-13) at Marks Stadium. Two wins would send USC off to Athens, Ga., next week for the NCAA Round of 16 and beyond, where the Trojans have an eye on pushing their national record count of NCAA team titles out to a 22nd trophy. But first, USC welcomes three teams to Troy for the opening rounds. On Friday (May 12) at 10 a.m., No. 30 Wisconsin (17-7) takes on No. 47 San Diego (17-10) in the NCAA First Round. At 1 p.m., USC will take the courts against Denver (13-12). The winners of Friday’s matches will push on to a NCAA Second Round clash at 1 p.m. on Saturday (May 13). That winning team will earn a trip to Athens, Ga., for the continuation of the NCAA Team Championships at the Dan Magill Tennis Complex, running May 18-23.

It’s the 11th consecutive appearance in the tourney and 39th all-time for the Trojans, who have won five titles in the last eight years and who hold the national record with 21 team championships in program history. USC will serve as a host for the NCAA First and Second Rounds at Mark Stadium May 12 and 13. From there, Georgia will take over as host of the Round of 16 and beyond, as well as the NCAA Individual Championships. All the action in Athens, Ga., runs May 18-29.

The No. 7 USC men's tennis team won its third Pac-12 Tournament Championship in epic fashion tonight in Ojai, getting one final break right when it mattered as freshman Brandon Holt emerged with a match-clinching three-set victory on court one to claim the conference crown for the Trojans over rival UCLA. The intense rivalry win improves USC to 25-5 overall and avenges last week's regular-season loss to the No. 5 Bruins.



No. 7 USC Men Earn A Rivalry Rematch With UCLA To Decide Pac-12 Tourney Title

The No. 7 USC men’s tennis team cleaned up another strong win out in Ojai with a 4-1 victory over No. 10 California today in the semifinals of the Pac-12 Tournament. The No. 3 seeded Trojans picked up the first three points of the match before the No. 2 seeded Golden Bears got a point on the board, but then senior Nick Crystal stepped in for the USC cause and claimed the clincher from court two. Now 24-3 overall, USC turns to vie for the tournament title tomorrow. The Trojans will face top-seeded rival UCLA for the Pac-12 Championship at 6 p.m. on Saturday (April 29) at Libbey Park in Ojai, Calif. The title match will be televised live on Pac-12 Network with J.B. Long and Justin Gimelstob on the call.



No. 7 USC Men Power Up For Pac-12 Quarterfinal Win Over Utah

The No. 7 USC men's tennis team punched up a spot in tomorrow's semifinal bout at the Pac-12 Championships in Ojai, Calif., with a smooth 4-0 sweep of Utah in today's quarterfinal round. Up against the Utes for the second time in under two weeks, the Trojans stayed the course and were well in control of the match, held at Libbey Park. A speedy doubles point was followed by a string of singles wins to charge up the No. 3 seeded Trojans for a clash with No. 2 seeded and No. 10 ranked California tomorrow (April 27) at 3 p.m. USC carries a 23-5 overall record into the semis after today's victory.
