The No. 6 USC men’s tennis team was making moves against No. 8 rival UCLA, but the Bruins were able to fend off the Trojans’ comeback hopes with a 4-1 victory in Westwood today. The loss moves USC to 22-5 overall and to a 5-2 finish in Pac-12 play as the Trojans now turn to the coming Pac-Tournament running April 26-29 in Ojai, Calif.

Pac-12 Title Up For Grabs As No. 6 USC Men Visit No. 8 Rival UCLA

The No. 6 Trojans (22-4, 5-1 Pac-12) can snag a share of the Pac-12 regular season championship this week if they can beat crosstown rival UCLA (16-4, 5-0) on the Bruins’ home courts. This 2017 rubber match also will determine the top seed in the coming conference tournament, and it all goes down at 3 p.m. on Friday (April 21) in Westwood.

A Senior Day Sweep For No. 6 USC Men

The No. 6 USC men's tennis team made today's Senior Day a true team effort, with a clean sweep coming against visiting Utah at Marks Stadium. All three USC seniors were in the lineup and were victorious today. David Laser stepped into the doubles lineup alongside fellow senior Nick Crystal to secure the doubles point for their Trojans, while Crystal and Rob Bellamy also snagged singles wins to go along with their doubles successes on the day. USC improves to 22-4 overall and to 5-1 in Pac-12 play with today's conference win.

The No. 6 USC men’s tennis team poured out a stream of decisive wins today to tack up another home victory and another Pac-12 win with a 4-0 sweep of visiting Arizona. USC’s 15th win of the year at Marks Stadium bumped the Trojans up to 21-4 overall and to 4-1 in conference play, with this latest victory locked in with a clincher from Riley Smith on court six.

The No. 6 Trojans settle back into their home courts at Marks Stadium this week to welcome two out-of-state Pac-12 opponents to town. USC (20-4, 3-1 Pac-12) will first take aim at Arizona (9-13, 0-4) in a 2:30 p.m. matchup on Friday (April 14) that will be televised on Pac-12 Los Angeles and Pac-12 Arizona, with Brian Webber and Justin Gimelstob on the call. Next, the Trojans will take on Utah (15-7, 1-3) in a 1 p.m. clash on Saturday (April 15).

The Trojans had stumbled to a Pac-12 loss in yesterday matchup at Stanford, but dug in their heels to get back in winning gear on a solid effort against the Golden Bears. Already with five NCAA Championships claimed at the helm of the USC program, Smith's 600th career win puts another indelible mark next to his name in the history books of collegiate tennis. Up 3-0 in the match, the Trojans had two courts finish near-simultaneously, with Jack Jaede breaking the tape just a moment before teammate Thibault Forget won his match to top off the 5-0 conference win at Marks Stadium. The victory improves the Trojans to 18-3 overall with a 1-0 Pac-12 mark.

The USC men’s tennis team's hottest hand right now belongs to freshman Riley Smith, who has ridden a 10-match singles win streak to his first selection as Pac-12 Player of the Week. Smith collected four singles wins and four doubles victories during a stretch of five matches last week, including a perfect singles run at the BNP Paribas Collegiate Cup in Indian Wells. Smith’s selection as Pac-12 Player of the Week makes him the second Trojan to win the award this season and brings the program its 50th all-time weekly honor from the conference on the men’s side.

Riley Smith picked up the first singles win for the Trojan cause before Logan Smith netted USC a 3-1 lead to put the Trojans in position for the win. At the No. 2 spot, senior Nick Crystal came through in the clutch, clinching things with a second-set tiebreaker to bring USC the win and improve the Trojans to 17-2 overall on the year. The No. 7 USC men's tennis team heated up for its eighth straight victory today, topping No. 32 South Florida 4-0 to open up action at the BNP Paribas Open Collegiate Challenge out in Indian Wells, Calif. After collecting the doubles point, USC rattled off three straight-set singles win, getting a quick win from Brandon Holt before rapid-fire finishes from Logan Smith and then Riley Smith to secure victory for the Trojan cause. USC is now 16-2 overall on the year and turns to face No. 2 seeded Oklahoma tomorrow (March 18) in a 2 p.m. semifinal.
