The long-standing collegiate tennis event dates back to 1957, when SoCal tennis powers USC and UCLA each captured inaugural trophies. USC’s Alex Olmedo won the very first singles title, and Bruins Myron Franks and Michael Green grabbed the doubles title that year.

It was a successful day’s work for three Trojans in singles and one USC doubles duo, who plowed through the Round of 32 and now have matches set for tomorrow. Thibault Forget and Logan Smith will pull double duty tomorrow after grabbing Round of 32 singles wins along with two more doubles victories as a Trojan tandem for another busy day on the agenda in Malibu.

The No. 27-ranked singles player in the nation, Crystal has snagged the No. 5 seed in the men’s singles draw. He’ll also hit the doubles courts alongside fellow Pac-12 player Denise Starr of California, as the event aims to pair up conference-mates for mixed doubles competition this year.

In doing so, Holt captured the consolation championship title at the 2016 Saint Francis Health System ITA Men's All-American Championships. Both teams put up a fight in going into a 10-game pro set to decide their respective matches, but ultimately fell to wrap their doubles runs in Tulsa. Freshman Brandon Holt did find success in the consolation bracket today, however, tacking up two wins to take a spot in tomorrow’s semifinals.
