No. 5 USC Men Kick Off Pac-12 Action With Two Tests This Week

The No. 5 Trojans turn to their first Pac-12 contests of the season this week. On Friday (March 31), USC (17-3, 0-0 Pac-12) will square off against No. 23 Oregon in a match to be televised on Pac-12 Network and Pac-12 Oregon (14-2, 0-0) at 1:30 p.m. Brian Webber and Justin Gimelstob will be on the call, live from Marks Stadium that afternoon. The next day, USC takes on No. 32 Washington (11-4, 0-0) in a 1 p.m. conference clash on Saturday (April 1) at Marks Stadium.



Riley Smith Named Pac-12 Player of the Week

The USC men’s tennis team's hottest hand right now belongs to freshman Riley Smith, who has ridden a 10-match singles win streak to his first selection as Pac-12 Player of the Week. Smith collected four singles wins and four doubles victories during a stretch of five matches last week, including a perfect singles run at the BNP Paribas Collegiate Cup in Indian Wells. Smith’s selection as Pac-12 Player of the Week makes him the second Trojan to win the award this season and brings the program its 50th all-time weekly honor from the conference on the men’s side.



No. 7 USC Men Slip Up In 4-3 Loss To No. 6 Baylor In Indian Wells

The No. 7 USC men's tennis team had its winning run upended by No. 6 Baylor today in the title match at the BNP Paribas Open Collegiate Challenge. The Trojans had crafted a 3-0 lead over the Bears before Baylor struck back and claimed the next four singles matches to ring up a 4-3 win over USC in Indian Wells, Calif. USC goes to 17-3 overall with today's loss.



No. 7 USC Men Heat Up For Another Win In Indian Wells

The No. 7 USC men’s tennis team drummed up its second win over a top-10 team this season while stringing up the Trojans’ ninth straight victory with today’s 4-1 win over No. 9 Oklahoma out at the BNP Paribas Open Collegiate Challenge in Indian Wells, Once again, USC captured a decisive doubles point before pressing on to a strong stand in singles. Riley Smith picked up the first singles win for the Trojan cause before Logan Smith netted USC a 3-1 lead to put the Trojans in position for the win. At the No. 2 spot, senior Nick Crystal came through in the clutch, clinching things with a second-set tiebreaker to bring USC the win and improve the Trojans to 17-2 overall on the year. USC will now face No. 6 Baylor in the event’s championship bout tomorrow (March 19) at 10 a.m. PT.



No. 7 USC Men Serve Up Sweep Of South Florida In Indian Wells

The No. 7 USC men's tennis team heated up for its eighth straight victory today, topping No. 32 South Florida 4-0 to open up action at the BNP Paribas Open Collegiate Challenge out in Indian Wells, Calif. After collecting the doubles point, USC rattled off three straight-set singles win, getting a quick win from Brandon Holt before rapid-fire finishes from Logan Smith and then Riley Smith to secure victory for the Trojan cause. USC is now 16-2 overall on the year and turns to face No. 2 seeded Oklahoma tomorrow (March 18) in a 2 p.m. semifinal.



No. 7 USC Men Dig In For Two Wins On Home Turf

The No. 7 USC men’s tennis team closed out a long day at Marks Stadium with two more wins to tack up in its 2017 journey, beating visiting Lehigh 7-0 and Texas Tech 4-3 in a home doubleheader today. USC was in cruise control in the morning match, sprinting through the doubles point and then staying the course in singles with Laurens Verboven coming up with the clincher against the Mountain Hawks. Against Texas Tech, USC had a little more work to do. It was a tight double point, but the Trojans got it done with wins on courts two and three. In singles, the Red Raiders closed the gap down to one, only to see Jack Jaede dig in and claim a second-set tiebreaker to secure victory for the Trojans on court four. The two wins improve the No. 7 Trojans to 15-2 overall on the year.



No. 7 USC Men Host Tuesday Doubleheader Before Journey To Indian Wells

The Trojans have a busy week ahead, hosting a doubleheader at Marks Stadium before hitting the road for Indian Wells for more dual-match competition at the BNP Paribas Open Collegiate Challenge. First up is that double dose of action on Tuesday (March 14), with USC (13-2) facing off against Lehigh at 11 a.m. before turning to a 3 p.m. clash against Texas Tech at Marks Stadium. Out in Indian Wells, the Trojans have drawn an opening matchup against South Florida on Friday (March 17). From there, USC will line up against opponents to be determined as play continues with a match on Saturday (March 18) and Sunday (March 19) out at the BNP Paribas Open Collegiate Challenge. In addition to USC and USF, the other teams participating in the event are Baylor, Cal, Oklahoma, Purdue, SMU and Tulsa.



No. 14 USC Men Stand Tall In 4-1 Win Over No. 13 Rival UCLA

The No. 14 USC men's tennis team jumped out ahead of crosstown rival No. 13 UCLA and closed out a 4-1 win over the visiting Bruins with a gutsy clincher coming from sophomore Logan Smith on court three. Smith had trailed in his second set against Evan Zhu but hit the gas at the right time to claim a 6-4, 7-5 win that wrapped up the victory for the Trojans, snapping a three-match skid against the Bruins. In avenging a February loss to UCLA, the Trojans improve to 13-2 overall on the year.



No. 14 USC Men Face No. 13 Rival UCLA In Crosstown Showdown

The No. 14 Trojans will square off against No. 13-ranked crosstown rival UCLA on home turf this week. After a faceoff in Virginia last month, the Trojans (12-2) will now get to avenge a loss to the Bruins (8-3) taken on that crosscountry journey when the two teams tangle in a nonconference bout this Thursday (March 9) at 3 p.m. at Marks Stadium. The first 150 USC fans at the match will receive a free grilled cheese sandwich from the Grilled Cheese Truck.



Brandon Holt Named Pac-12 Player of the Week

It was going to be a season of firsts no matter what for USC's Brandon Holt, who has stepped into a key role for the Trojans as a freshman. Rightly so, Holt is the first Trojan to be named Pac-12 Player of the Week as he comes off yet another winning week for the USC men's tennis team. USC leads the conference in all-time Pac-12 Player of the Week awards, having claimed 49 now on the men's side.



No. 12 USC Men Snag 4-3 Win Over No. 35 Stanford

The No. 12 USC men's tennis team came up against a tough No. 35 Stanford squad at Marks Stadium tonight, forcing the Trojans to fight out of a deficit for another 4-3 win. The Cardinal took the early doubles point, but the Trojans managed to battle back in singles, winning the first three matches and taking the lead 3-1. The clincher came from Logan Smith on court three with a 7-6, 3-6, 6-1 win over Stanford's Michael Genender. USC improves to 12-2 overall with tonight's win.



No. 12 USC Men Fight Back For 4-3 Win Over No. 33 Cal Poly

Fighting against both its opponents and the aggressive wind, the No. 12 USC men's tennis team came out on top today against visiting No. 33 Cal Poly 4-3. The Trojans had a slower start, losing the doubles point, but made up for it in hard-fought singles wins. Jack Jaede clinched the match for the Trojans, defeating his opponent, Josh Ortlip, 6-4, 7-6.



No. 12 USC Men Are Back In Town For Two Matches At Marks This Week

In today's consolation bout against No. 13 Baylor, the Trojans took early control of the match and pressed on to a 4-2 victory over the Bears, with Thibault Forget snagging the clincher from court four. The win puts USC at 10-2 overall on the year.



No. 9 USC Men Speed To Victory Over Utah State At ITA Team Indoors

The No. 9 USC men's tennis team regrouped and ripped through to a resounding win on day two at the ITA National Team Indoor Championships in Charlottesville, Va., registering a 4-0 sweep of Utah State in today's consolation match. A swift doubles point was followed by a string of straight set victories in singles, with Riley Smith ringing up the clincher from court six to improve the Trojans to 9-2 overall on the year.
