Bryan Ellis Joins USC Staff As Offensive Administrative Assistant

Bryan Ellis, who helped coach Western Kentucky prolific offenses the past 3 seasons (2014-16) and even called plays during the Hilltoppers’ 2016 bowl game, has joined USC in March of 2017 as an offensive administrative assistant.

USC has produced some of college football’s most legendary players, coaches, games and moments. There have been 11 national championships, 34 bowl victories, 166 All-Americans, 6 Heisman Trophy winners, 43 College Football Hall of Famers, 22 Academic All-Americans, 485 NFL players and 15 Pro Football Hall of Famers. The 2017 Trojans—the school’s 125th football team—want to add to that legacy. They certainly are well equipped to do so.



Deland McCullough Named USC Running Backs Coach

Deland McCullough, a former college and pro running back who spent the past 6 years coaching the position at Indiana, has been named USC’s running backs coach and run game coordinator, Trojan head coach Clay Helton announced today (March 3).



Former USC Running Backs Coach John Jackson Dies

John Jackson, who was the running backs coach for tailbacks Marcus Allen and Charles White during their Heisman Trophy-winning seasons at USC, died on Thursday (Feb. 16) in Torrance, Calif., of complications following intestinal surgery. He was 81.



Mike Walden, Former Broadcast Voice Of USC, Dies

Mike Walden, a noted local radio and television sportscaster who was the play-by-play broadcast voice of USC football and men’s basketball from 1966 to 1972 and then called UCLA sports for parts of 18 years, died on Sunday (Feb. 12) in Tarzana, Calif., from complications of a stroke. He was 89.

The USC Football Coaches Clinic, featuring head coach Clay Helton of the Rose Bowl champion Trojans along with his entire coaching staff and guest speakers, will be held March 31 and April 1 in the John McKay Center on the USC campus.



USC Football Announces 2017 Signing Class

Eighteen high school football players signed letters of intent with defending Rose Bowl champion USC today (Feb. 1) and will join the Trojan program in the fall, USC head coach Clay Helton announced. They are part of a 23-member signing class that includes 5 other players who already enrolled at USC in January and will participate in the upcoming spring practice. Many recruiting media outlets ranked USC’s class in the national Top 5 (tops in the Pac-12), including ESPN.com, Rivals.com, Scout.com and 247Sports.com. Fourteen players in USC’s signing class are listed among the ESPN 300, including six in the top 100.



Former USC Punter Marty King Dies

Marty King, a record-setting All-Pac-10 punter on USC’s 1978 national championship football team, died on Jan. 14 in San Francisco, Calif., of cardiac disease. He was 60.



USC's 2017 Football Schedule Announced

The 2017 football schedule for defending Rose Bowl champion USC has been announced by the Pac-12 and it features seven home games in the Coliseum, beginning with three straight to open the season (including a rare visit by Texas) and the regular season finale against crosstown rival UCLA. Also visiting the Coliseum will be Pac-12 opponents Stanford, Utah, Arizona and Oregon State and non-conference foe Western Michigan.



Zach Banner Wins Southern California Sports Broadcasters Scholarship

USC senior offensive tackle Zach Banner has been named the recipient of the 2017 Tom Harmon/Jerry Clark Memorial Scholarship, a $5,000 grant presented by the Southern California Sports Broadcasters to a local-area college student who has an interest in pursuing a degree in broadcasting or a related field with the ultimate goal of a professional career in radio, television or online broadcasting.
