Record books across the country took a beating from a quartet of college standouts who call San Diego home. USD’s Jonah Hodges, along with Donnel Pumphrey (SDSU), Kelsey Plum (UW) and Calvin Munson (SDSU) will be honored as Amateur Stars of the Year at the 71st Salute to the Champions on Feb. 21 at the Town & Country Resort and Convention Center.

USD Football Ranked No. 19 in final FCS Poll

The USD football team was ranked No. 19 in the final STATS FCS Top 25 poll of the season, the highest season-ending ranking in program history. The Toreros finished the year 10-2 and a perfect 8-0 in the PFL. USD won at Cal Poly 35-21 in the first round of the FCS Playoffs, giving the Toreros, a non-scholarship program, their first playoff win.

Max Michaels Named To 19th Annual FCS ADA Academic All-Star Team

The 44 winners of the 19th annual Football Championship Subdivision Athletics Directors Association (FCS ADA) Academic All-Star Team were announced by the FCS ADA, today. USD junior nickel back Max Michaels (Poway, CA) was selected from the Torero football team.

Daniel Cooney named to AFCA FCS Coaches' All-America 2nd Team

USD redshirt sophomore offensive left tackle Daniel Cooney (Western Springs, Illinois) received good news this morning when it was announced that he was selected a 2nd Team All-American by the American Football Coaches Association (AFCA). Cooney played a key role with the offensive line unit as the Toreros finished 10-2 overall.

Jonah Hodges named to AP FCS All-America Team

Hodges, the 2016 PFL Offensive Player of the Year, helped lead the Toreros to a PFL title and their first FCS playoff win in program history. He was third in the nation in total touchdowns (20), fourth in all-purpose yards per game (175.3 ypg), tied for fourth in rushing touchdowns (18) and fifth in rushing yards (1454 yards).

Senior Jonah Hodges selected 2016 USD Football Team MVP

At the end-of-the-season USD Football Awards Banquet held today on the campus of USD, senior running back Jonah Hodges (Santa Cruz, Calif.) received the team's Most Valuable Player Award for the 2016 season. Sixteen awards were handed out at the event.

Jonathan Petersen has been named a Amateur Star of the Month for November by the San Diego Hall of Champions. The junior defensive end from Poway, California, who recently was named a unanimous pick for the 2016 All-Pioneer Football League Defense, played a key role down the stretch as the Toreros won the PFL championship outright.

Six Toreros recognized by PFL for Academic & Athletic Success

The PFL announced its Academic PFL teams today and six Toreros were recognized for their success in the classroom as well as on the field. Senior CB Devyn Bryant (San Diego, Calif., 3.54 GPA, Mechanical Engineering) and junior NB Max Michaels (Poway, Calif., 3.93 GPA, Accountancy) were named to the 1st team for the second consecutive year.

Toreros take on No. 1 seed North Dakota State on Saturday

The No. 24/25 USD Toreros (10-1), under the direction of fourth year head coach Dale Lindsey, will take on the No. 4/3 North Dakota State Bison (10-1) this coming Saturday, December 3rd, in a 2nd round FCS playoff game. Kickoff is slated for 12:35 p.m. (PST) at Gate City Bank Field at the Fargodome (18,700).

Eighteen Toreros Earn All-PFL Recognition

Fifty-seven student athletes have been named to the 24th All-Pioneer Football League teams, Tuesday. All selections were made by the league's coaches, who were not permitted to vote for their own student-athletes. San Diego had a league-high nine players named first team, with four earning second team honors and another five recognized as honorable mention.
