Wed, 28 Sep 2016 19:45:00 EDT

It's easy to identify the great leader from the rest. Sometimes all it takes is one look.

That's all it took for Paul Hewitt to identify Jarrett Jack's leadership skills -- and Jack wasn't even playing his best sport!

Jack's immense talent, combined with his tremendous leadership skills and tireless work ethic added up to three unforgettable seasons of Georgia Tech basketball, where the Jackets won 64 games, and featured the stunning run to the 2004 NCAA Tournament championship game.

#TGW: Return Flight

Nothing’s ever come easy for Will Bynum, but give him the slightest opening, and he’ll capitalize.

He did it for Georgia Tech against Oklahoma State on April 3, 2004 in the NCAA Tournament national semifinals, as, in the closing seconds, given just a crack at the top of the lane, Bynum weaved his way through the lane and layed in the points that sent Georgia Tech to the championship game.

Bynum plans on showing his ability to close the deal again in the coming weeks, as he’s been invited to training camp by the Atlanta Hawks with a shot to earn a spot on the team.

Wed, 17 Aug 2016 13:46:00 EDT

Quinton Stephens was something of a secret weapon for Georgia Tech during the 2015-16 season.

The Jackets were 7-0 in games in which Stephens scored in double figures and 9-5 in games in which he started, including 68-64 upending of No. 4 Virginia on Jan. 9 at McCamish Pavilion, when Stephens went for a team-high 16 on 4-for-4 shooting from three, 6-for-8 overall, two blocks and five rebounds.

#TGW: Taking Stock

Sat, 13 Aug 2016 21:34:00 EDT

Evaluation is an important first step in drawing up a blueprint to any building process.

Georgia Tech basketball coach Josh Pastner did his evaluation during the recently completed summer practice sessions.

"Right now I would say we are evaluating, just to see where we are," said Pastner, who was hired as the program's 14th head coach on April 8. "I wanted them to really understand my philosophy, the culture that I want, things that I feel that we need to implement to make sure that we have the best opportunity for success, not just this year but for the long term. So there were a few things that I felt were important. Little things and those I thought we accomplished."

#TGW: Taylor's Travels

Mon, 18 Jul 2016 12:13:00 EDT

With a name like Dan Taylor, and a spectacularly unique story of international travel that’s merged with special intersections to land him on The Flats, Georgia Tech’s newest strength and conditioning coach has a tale that might be movie worthy. But no, the men’s basketball players don’t call him, “Lieutenant Dan.”

The Yellow Jackets keep it simple. Most weren’t even born when a notably crusty Taylor found fame as Forrest Gump’s commanding officer in the 1994 film, and besides, this Taylor is not grumpy like that one.
