Men's Cross Country Finishes Second, Women Take Fourth at Paul Short Invitational

Both the Georgetown men's and women's cross country teams traveled to Bethlehem, Pa., for the Paul Short Invitational today, a cross country meet that welcomes more than 5,000 competitors to the Murray H. Goodman courses. The men's team finished second in just its second race of the season while the women placed fourth in what was also their second meet of the 2011 campaign.

Men's Cross Country Opens with Win at Lou Onesty Open

In its season opener, the Georgetown men's cross country team started strong as they won the team competition at the Lou Onesty Open today at the Panorama Farms course in Charlottesville, Va. The Hoyas handily took first place in the team competition with 20 points followed by the Cavaliers on their home course with 72 points. GU recorded a stellar performance with six of the top eight donning the blue and gray.

A little over a week after the team was tabbed preseason No. 22 by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA), the men's cross country team gets set to start the 2011 season in Charlottesville, Va., at the Lou Onesty Open on Friday, September 9. The Hoyas also made an appearance in the Mid-Atlantic preseason rankings at No. 3 regionally.

Women's Cross Country Tabbed Preseason No. 1

The Georgetown women's cross country is named the No. 1 team in the country according to the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) Preseason Poll, announced today. This is the first-ever appearance as the top women's team in the country according to the nation's coaches. The men's team was tabbed preseason No. 22 and third in the Mid-Atlantic region while the women took the top spot in the region.

Track & Field Alumna Renee Tomlin Selected One of Top 30 Honorees for 2011 NCAA Woman of the Year

Following a stellar career on the Hilltop both on and off the track featuring four All-America recognitions and five BIG EAST Academic All-Star accolades as well as the recipient of the 2010-11 IG EAST Scholar-Athlete Excellence Award, Renee Tomlin is now one of the top 30 honorees for the 2011 NCAA Woman of the Year award.

Georgetown's Andrew Bumbalough to Compete at IAAF World Championships for United States

Just over one year after he completed a successful career on the Hilltop that featured seven All-America recognitions including one NCAA Runner Up finish, former Hoya Andrew Bumbalough will now represent the United States in the 5,000-meter run at the International Association of Athletics Federations (IAAF) World Championships held in Daegu, South Korea from August 27-September 4.

Georgetown Track & Field Adds Jody Stewart to Coaching Staff

Director of Track & Field / Cross Country Patrick Henner announced today that Jody Stewart has been promoted to an assistant coach with the Georgetown track & field program. A volunteer assistant during the 2010-11 season, Stewart begins his second season on the Hilltop as an assistant and continues to work with the sprinters, hurdlers and jumpers.

Georgetown Track & Field Earns All-Academic Status

The Georgetown track & field program earned all-academic status on both the men's and women's side for the 2011 track & field season, encompassing both the indoor and outdoor seasons, as announced by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA). The men's team was one of 90 squads to qualify for the annual honor while the women were one of 164 institutions to garner the accolades.

Georgetown Track & Field Puts 11 Student-Athletes on the 2011 Division I All-Academic Track & Field Team

Georgetown track & field had 11 student-athletes named to the 2011 Division I All-Academic Track & Field Team with five men and six women representing the Blue & Gray. To be named to the list, a student-athlete had to carry a 3.25 cumulative grade point average (GPA) and either rank in the top 96 of an indoor championship event or qualify for the preliminary rounds of the 2011 NCAA Outdoor Championships.
