McCollum Named Special Teams Player of the Week; Akere Earns Honorable Mention

Georgetown University football senior punter Harry McCollum was named the Corvias Patriot League Special Teams Player of the Week and junior defensive back David Akere earned Honorable Mention on Monday. Both awards recognize their efforts during Georgetown’s 17-14 victory over Columbia University on Saturday afternoon at Cooper Field.

The Georgetown University football team jumped out to a 17-0 lead in the first half and fought off a late charge by Columbia University for a 17-14 victory on Saturday afternoon at Cooper Field in front of a near-sellout Homecoming crowd of 2,367. With the win, the Hoyas claimed the Lou Little Trophy, named after the College Football Hall of Fame Head Coach who coached at both schools, for the second-straight season.

The Georgetown University and Columbia University football programs will play the second game of their 10-year series this upcoming Saturday, competing for the Lou Little Trophy. The trophy, which stays with the winner until the following year’s contest, honors College Football Hall of Fame Head Coach Lou Little, who coached at both Georgetown and Columbia.

Hunter Kiselick Named STATS FCS National Special Teams Player of the Week

The Georgetown University football team totaled 358 yards of offense, blocked two field goals and the defense held Marist College 0-of-13 on third down conversions as the Hoyas defeated the Red Foxes, 20-17, on Saturday evening at Tenney Stadium. The win moved GU to 2-0 on the season, the first time the Blue & Gray have won its first two games since 2012, while Marist fell to 0-2.

Pruitt, Woodward Added to Football Coaching Staff

Georgetown University Football Head Coach Rob Sgarlata has announced the additions of Kellen Pruitt and Colin Woodward to the coaching staff. Both coaches will work under defensive coordinator Luke Thompson as Priutt will oversee the defensive ends and the nickel backs while Woodward will work with the linebackers.
