This summer, 14 current members of the Georgetown baseball team are playing around the country in various summer collegiate baseball leagues. Additionally, four former Hoyas are playing professionally for major league organizations.



Nick Collins Returns to Georgetown as Volunteer Assistant Coach

Georgetown University Head Coach Pete Wilk has announced the addition of former Georgetown catcher and 2015 BIG EAST Player of the Year, Nick Collins, to the baseball coaching staff. Collins, who began his professional career after his junior year, will serve as the team’s volunteer assistant coach while he completes his degree in business management from the McDonough School of Business.



Niesen Joins Georgetown Baseball Coaching Staff

Georgetown University Baseball Head Coach Pete Wilk has announced the addition of Eric Niesen to the Hoya coaching staff. Niesen, who will serve as GU’s pitching coach, was on the coaching staff at his alma mater, Wake Forest University, for the past two seasons under Georgetown alum Tom Walter.

Simon Mathews Signs Free Agent Contract with Los Angeles Angels

Recent Georgetown University graduate and baseball alum Simon Mathews (C’17) signed a free agent contract on Wednesday morning with the Los Angeles Angels. He will begin his professional career immediately in the Angels’ minor league system.

Jake Kuzbel Named CoSIDA Academic All-American

Georgetown University baseball graduating senior Jake Kuzbel has been named to the 2017 CoSIDA Academic All-American Second Team, as selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA). Kuzbel had been named to the CoSIDA Academic All-District II First Team in May, putting his name on the ballot for Academic All-America consideration.

The Georgetown University baseball team had three of its student-athletes named to the All-BIG EAST Teams, when the conference announced its postseason awards on Tuesday. Jake Kuzbel was named to the All-BIG EAST First Team as a designated hitter, while junior outfielder Michael DeRenzi and sophomore third baseman Ryan Weisenberg both earned spots on the All-BIG EAST Second Team.



Six Hoyas Receive Their Degrees in Special Commencement Ceremony

The Georgetown University Athletics Department held a private commencement ceremony on Monday for six graduating seniors from the baseball team. While the Georgetown community celebrated its graduation exercises last Saturday, the Hoyas were away from campus, closing out their regular season with a three-game series at Xavier.

Hoyas to Close Season at Xavier

Baseball Falters at UMBC

UMBC hit three home runs to come-from-behind and defeat the Georgetown University baseball team, 8-5, on Tuesday evening in a nonconference game at UMBC’s Alumni Field. With the loss, the Hoyas drop to 27-25 overall, while the Retrievers improve to 19-21 on the season.



Georgetown Set for Final Nonconference Game at UMBC Tuesday
