TIPPING OFF: GW returns home to face George Mason for its lone home game in a five-game stretch, after visiting Davidson and Richmond last week. Men's Basketball Falls in Tight Battle at Richmond

Sat, 13 Jan 2018 19:31:00 EST

RICHMOND, Va. -- On Saturday afternoon in Richmond, GW men's basketball was looking to break through its recent road struggles and secure a victory against the Spiders in front of a national television audience. After the last three years of this rivalry saw two double-overtime games and six of seven games decided by single digits, it figured that fans would be treated to another close battle. With no team holding a lead larger than 10 points until the game's final minute, unfortunately for the visiting Colonials it was Richmond who claimed a 78-68 victory in this edition.

Men's Basketball Downed at Davidson

Wed, 10 Jan 2018 22:37:00 EST

DAVIDSON, N.C. -- Seeking its first win at Belk Arena since Davidson joined the Atlantic 10, the George Washington men's basketball team hoped to slow down the league's most prolific 3-point shooting team and its second-leading scorer in senior Peyton Aldridge. While the Colonials did just that in limiting the Wildcats to 25 percent shooting from long range, and holding Aldridge in check, Davidson made plenty of plays elsewhere to cruise to a 72-45 victory on Wednesday night.

TIPPING OFF: GW opens a tough stretch that takes them away from home for the majority of January's slate as it visits Davidson on Wednesday for a 7 p.m. tip. The Colonials are playing four of their next five on the road, with the lone home contest during that stretch coming on January 17 vs. Revolutionary Rival George Mason.

Men's Basketball Succumbs to Rhode Island, 81-60

Sat, 06 Jan 2018 19:10:00 EST

WASHINGTON -- Hoping to stay above .500 overall and get back to a winning mark in conference play, the George Washington men's basketball team knew it had a tall task with preseason A-10 favorite Rhode Island in town on Saturday. The Rams came to Foggy Bottom atop the conference with an unblemished 2-0 record in the A-10 and at 10-3 overall, and will leave DC still perfect in the league. In an 81-60 Rams' win at the Charles E. Smith Center, the Colonials saw their season ledger dip to 8-8 while falling two games behind their front-running guests in the conference at 1-2.

Defense Key as Men's Basketball Hosts URI Saturday

Thu, 04 Jan 2018 13:19:00 EST

Maurice Joseph isn't joking around when he says he wants his GW men's basketball team to lead the Atlantic 10 in home runs.

The Colonials borrow from baseball to describe getting three defensive stops in a row. In preparing a new-look group to lock down opponents, the coach has continually stressed the importance of swinging for the fences.

Men's Basketball Dropped by Duquesne

Wed, 03 Jan 2018 21:45:00 EST

PITTSBURGH, Pa. -- After opening A-10 play with a win against Saint Joseph's and extending its winning streak to three games on Saturday, the George Washington men's basketball team hit the road to Pittsburgh for a date with a resurgent Duquesne team on Wednesday. The Dukes also won their conference opener against last season's regular season champion, Dayton, and entered play with a chance to surpass their win total from all of last season (10) with a victory against GW. Unfortunately for the Colonials, that's exactly what Duquesne got in a 69-52 victory over GW.

'Twas the Game Before A-10 Season...

Sat, 23 Dec 2017 15:42:00 EST

'Twas the game before A-10 season, and GW came in with a grin,
Knowing a record above .500 they'd own, with just one more win.
Six victories were hung up in a grueling non-conference slate,
In hopes that Harvard would make seven, on this late December date.

Postgame Quotes

Thu, 21 Dec 2017 10:50:00 EST

“I think Yuta [Watanabe] hit some huge shots for us – two corner 3-pointers when the mood was kind of shifting. That’s what we have to do in those tough situations when we’re down and coming back against a team who we believe we can beat.”
