The Colorado State women's golf team wrapped up its 2016-17 season on Wednesday with an eighth-place finish at the Mountain West Championship. CSU was led by sophomore Katrina Prendergast, who tied for 15th place with an 8-over 224.

Colorado State had a strong second day at the Mountain West Championship, moving up one spot with a 17-over 305. Sophomore Katrina Prendergast led the charge with a 2-under 70. The score was tied for the third-best among all golfers in the second round.

The Colorado State women’s golf team opened up play at the Mountain West Championship on Monday morning. CSU shot a 23-over 311 during Round 1, far above what the team was hoping for entering the conference tournament.

Colorado State will close the 2016-17 women's golf season at the 2017 Mountain West Championship in Rancho Mirage, Calif. The three-day tournament will feature nine MW teams, and will be played out over three 18-hole rounds, beginning Monday morning (rounds will begin at 8 a.m. MT each day). The tournament is held at Dinah Shore Tournament Course at Mission Hills Country Club (par 72; 6,270 yardage).

Colorado State will play its 10th and final tournament of the regular season next week, traveling to Tulsa, Okla., for the Dale McNamara Invitational. The Rams are most-recently coming off of a 16th-place finish at the Bryan National and look to put forth their best effort heading into the conference tournament. CSU has shown glimpses of talent throughout the season, but has struggled to put three good rounds together.

The standout sophomore was the lone bright spot for the Rams, who finished 16th out of 18 teams in the weekend tournament. Originally scheduled to open play on Friday, rain pushed back the opening round to Saturday. The Rams sat in 15th place after two rounds, before falling back one spot during Sunday’s final round.

After competing in three tournaments over a 14-day period to begin the spring season, the Rams finally got a break, most-recently competing March 12 in Arizona. The time away from competition was a chance for the team to work on consistency, a season-long battle for the group. CSU has shown signs of success and potential, but hasn't been able to fully use that talent over an entire tournament.

Freshman Ellen Secor and sophomore Katrina Prendergast earned top-20 performances on Sunday, placing in 14th and 16th place, respectively, at the MountainView Collegiate Invitational. As a team, Colorado State played its best golf of the weekend on Sunday, shooting a 12-over 300 during Round 3. The Rams improved each round, finishing at 52-over 916 and in 12th place.
