SmartPurger 3.9 released

Mon, 16 Jan 2017 03:30:00 PST

SmartPurger 3.9 is released and here’s what’s fixed:

  • "Delete only files older than specified number days" setting did before not delete files as expected. This is not fixed.
  • Fixed error that caused SmartPurger to stop when path or files names were very long.
  • Fixed error that caused SmartPurger to stop when it reached certain folders that could not be accessed by the current user.

Download the update either as a customer or if you want a trial.

What is SmartPurger? SmartPurger can batch purge CAD drawings as well as run custom scripts (SCR or LSP). Delete old backup and other files you may not want to take up space. Works with AutoCAD, BricsCAD, GstarCAD and possibly other DWG compatible software. And there are more features.

"You provided an excellent product in “SmartPurger”. This application suits us perfectly." - Clint Hill, that found these issues and also helped to test this version.

How to disable Skype birthday notifications on Android

Wed, 26 Oct 2016 04:04:00 PDT

Here’s how to disable Skype birthday notifications when using Skype on Android. You probably been as annoyed as me that there is no setting for this on the Skype for Android app and that the has a birthday checkbox setting isn’t synchronized from the desktop version of Skype.

Start a chat with any of your contacts. and type the following row:
and press enter or send.

This message won't be sent to the one in the chat and the change will affect notifications for all contacts.

If it works you may see a message like below:
System: Birthday notifications disabled

There are other available commands that can be found at

If you want to restore or enable the birthday notifications use this command:
/setupkey Lib/Conversation/EnableBirthday 1

The message showing will be:
setupkey: [Lib/Conversation/EnableBirthday] now '1'

I’ve not tested above but it should work for other platforms like iPhone, Windows phone, BlackBerry, Amazon Fire Phone and iPod touch, iPad, Kindle Fire HD, Windows, Xbox One, Apple Watch, Android Wear, Skype for TV, Max and Linux.

As a bonus tip. If you want to make text bold, italic or strikethrough

* surrounding text (*text here*) makes it bold.
_ surrounding text (_text here_) makes it italic.
~ surrounding text (~text here~) makes it strikethrough.

If you start a message with "@@ " (two ats with a space), every formatting function in your message will be ignored except emoticons.

If you start a message with "!! " (two exclamations with a space), every formatting function in your message will be ignored and font will be switched to monospaced.

AutoCAD 2017.1 Update

Sun, 09 Oct 2016 23:40:00 PDT

AutoCAD 2017.1 Update is a subscription-only update for AutoCAD 2017 and AutoCAD LT 2017 and available either from your Autodesk Account or by using the Autodesk Desktop App. Note that even security enhancements and bug fixes are only available for subscription customers. (UPDATE: the update is available for download for non-renters as well, see Steve Johnson’s post When is a subscription-only update not a subscription-only update?) (UPDATE: the update will be available for students. See Shaan Hurley’s post AutoCAD 2017.1 Feature Update for Students) Import PDF Feature Enhancement - PDFSHXTEXT is a command that you can use after you import a PDF file that contains SHX geometry. It converts any selected PDF geometry into multiline text objects that use a matching SHX font. Several popular SHX fonts are supported. However, Asian Big Font SHX geometry is currently not supported. Commands: PDFSHXTEXT , -PDFSHXTEXT , TXT2MTXT PDF Text Recognition Settings windows: High Resolution Monitor Support(High Pixels per Inch) is a New Feature - In the AutoCAD 2017.1 Update, common user interface elements, such as the Layer Manager, Command Line window, Property Palette, File Navigation dialog box, pick box cursor, grips, View Cube, and UCS icon, are correctly adjusted to the Windows setting for the display scale. For the best results, use Windows 10 due to operation system limitations. Use a compatible video card for the best results. Some dialog boxes in vertical products are not optimized. Object Selection Feature Enhancement - Objects that are moved off screen during selection remain in the selection set. All linetype gaps can be selected and available for object snapping when High Quality Geometry is turned on. System variables: SELECTIONOFFSCREEN, LTGAPSELECTION Linetype gap behavior is enhanced to support complex and DGN linetypes. In addition, this feature works with all objects, such as polylines with width and splines. Now you can select complex and DGN linetypes or snap to them by picking on the gaps between the geometry. Security Feature Enhancement - Internal software security continues to be enhanced, closing potential exploits. 3D Graphics Performance Feature Enhancement - The performance and reliability of 3DORBIT is improved for rendered visual styles, especially for models with a large number of small blocks containing edges and facets. Command: VISUALSTYLES Highlight New Features And here is a couple examples of what it can look like. As a result of the detailed information that Autodesk received from customers who used the Customer Error Reporting Utility, they were able to identify and fix the problems listed below: Blocks Fixed occasional crashes when inserting some blocks a second time. Graphics Fixed occasional crashes when zooming out of a drawing following the 3D Orbit command. Purge Fixed occasional crashes when purging DXF drawing files. Web and Cloud Fixed occasional crashes when modifying the Online Options settings and signing in to Autodesk A360 from InfoCenter. General Fixed occasional crashes when launching AutoCAD in Windows 10. Fixed occasional crashes when inputting the system time in long string format, and then using the DIM command. Fixed occasional crashes when switching layouts. Fixed occasional crashes when performing a 3D rotate in drawings containing a point cloud. Fixed occasional crashes when plotting to PDF using AccoreConsole.exe. Fixed occasional crashes when performing an Undo after detaching a reference using the External References palette.[...]

Batch Publish for AutoCAD 2.1 released

Wed, 28 Sep 2016 10:25:00 PDT

JTB World’s Batch Publish for AutoCAD 2.1 has been released. This version comes with a bug fix to support paths containing unicode characters like é.

This AutoCAD app simplifies the process of publishing (plotting) sets of drawings to DWF and/or PDF.

This app can be used with AutoCAD (and verticals) to simplify the process of publishing sets of drawings to DWF and/or PDF. It runs as a command within AutoCAD - as opposed to a separate executable - and uses a separate executable to monitor AutoCAD's health and restart it, as needed. The status of the batch publishing operation is stored to disk, allowing it to pick up from where it left off and also for any failed documents to be retried without starting from scratch. A setting is available to only publish drawings that have been modified since they were last published, making it easier to publish sets of documents on a regular basis.

Give it a try for free: Batch Publish for AutoCAD

How to get back the AutoCAD Security - Unsigned Executable File dialog box

Fri, 16 Sep 2016 03:05:00 PDT

If SECURELOAD system variable (introduced first in AutoCAD 2014) is activated (set to 1) you may see a dialog box like below. If you are not sure the executable file can be trusted do not load it. Dialog box text as below: [Window Title] Security - Unsigned Executable File [Main Instruction] The publisher of this executable file could not be verified and the file is not located in a trusted folder. What do you want to do? [Content] Name:                JTBWPaletteAutoHideSpeed.lsp Publisher:           Unknown Publisher Location:            C:\Users\jtb\AppData\Roaming\Autodesk\ApplicationPlugins\JTBW-PaletteAutoHideSpeed.bundle\Contents Issuer:                 None Date:                   08/26/2016  17:06 Make sure that this executable file comes from a trusted source and is located in a trusted folder. [Always Load] [Load Once] [Do Not Load] [Footer] How do I decide what files to load? But what if you have selected Always Load and later change your mind what can you do? There is no way in OPTIONS to do this like you can with other dialog boxes using “Hidden Message Settings”. “Security Options” does not help either. The trusted files are saved in Windows Registry so there’s a way to solve this. As always when editing the Registry be careful and backup if needed. USERTAPS below HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Autodesk\AutoCAD\R21.0\ACAD-0001:409\AutodeskApps holds apps that have been manually approved. R21.0\ACAD-0001:409 (this is for AutoCAD 2017) is depending on AutoCAD version and if it’s a vertical like AutoCAD Architecture or so. If USERTAPS is deleted AutoCAD will show the dialog box “Security - Unsigned Executable File” again for all unsigned files. Using Visual LISP you can delete USERTAPS like this: (vl-registry-delete   (strcat "HKEY_CURRENT_USER\\"           (vlax-product-key)           "\\AutodeskApps"   )   "USERTAPS" ) [...]

Tue, 30 Aug 2016 06:07:00 PDT

SmartPurger 3.8 is now released. SmartPurger is a batch and script utility for processing multiple AutoCAD drawings with full control. Execute LSP or SCR files on multiple drawings. SmartPurger handles crashes so the AutoCAD batch processing continues to the end and leaves bad drawings to be corrected manually. Many purge and cleanup settings available. SmartPurger can make use of AutoCAD Core Console that was introduced in AutoCAD 2013 making the scripting process faster then ever as the Core Console takes less than a second to open per drawing. -With this version it’s possible to only delete certain “garbage” files without having to also run AutoCAD to purge and process custom scripts. See the “Only delete files, don’t process any DWG files” checkbox on Delete tab in Settings. -Quick access to deleted files log file through new button on Delete tab. -Minor bug fixes related to usage with AutoCAD 2017 I received below screenshots and statement from Clinton Hill at Innophos. This functionality was added based on his wishes. “You provided an excellent product in “SmartPurger”. This application suits us perfectly.” These are the steps to take to only delete specified files with extensions like .BAK, .BK?, .SV$, .$$$, .AC$, .DMP, .ERR, .XLG, .DWL, .DWK or PLOT.LOG. First click on Add Folders Only and select one or many folders. Sub folders will also be processed. Next click on Settings and on the Delete tab check the “Only delete files, don’t process any DWG files” checkbox as well as what type of files you want to delete. Now go back and click on the Run button. When ready go back to Settings and click on Open log file to see what files were deleted. Download the updated version or a free trial here. The upgrade is free if you already have purchased a license. [...]
