How #hashtags are influencing elections: Insights from the US and French elections

Thu, 27 Apr 2017 17:32:19 +0000

In the corporate world, marketers measure hashtags on social media to gauge the success of their campaigns. We wondered: are hashtags effectively influencing the political realm? Can we predict the outcome of presidential races by analyzing hashtag performance? A new analysis using Netvibes Dashboard Intelligence says yes. #hashtags are definitely influencing elections. By looking at hashtag trends over time, we see that the fastest-growing hashtags tend to correlate with winning elections—both in the US as well as France. Here’s what we found: Last year we designed a custom Netvibes dashboard to track and analyze the 2016 US Presidential election. For 2017 we are analyzing the French presidential race: you can see the live dashboard here and read the insights on our French Election blog. Hashtags and French Elections On Sunday, April 23, French voters went to the polls in a first-round vote to narrow down a field of 11 candidates to 2 finalists. Emmanuel Macron and Marine Le Pen were the winners on Sunday. Ahead of the vote, Netvibes analyzed candidate hashtags to predict the outcome. As a reminder, during both primaries, we found an interesting fact: the leader in hashtags won his elections, both times. Here is the last […]

New on the Dashboard: Merge Entities within Search Facets

Tue, 28 Mar 2017 08:30:09 +0000

Netvibes Universal Search (available for VIP and Premium dashboards) makes it quick and simple to locate any piece of content or information from your dashboard. Simply type in a keyword, use Boolean search terms, or drill down by facets–including people, geographical location, sentiment (negative/positive/neutral), and more. Beginning today, Premium users can now merge multiple entities together in Universal Search in order to avoid redundancies and analyze data in different ways. Here’s how it works. In Universal Search, named entities are typed information that can be extracted from your personal corpus or sources. The Netvibes dashboard automatically identifies these entities. For example: “Donald J. Trump” is an entity under the “People” facet, and “Super Bowl” is an entity under the “Event” facet. Netvibes’ goal is to always provide you with accurate answers to the questions you want to ask. With many redundant names in use for brands, people and events, it can be difficult to get accurate insights on the topics most important to you. Using Mr. Trump as an example, there are many different entities referring to him, such as: “Donaldrump,” “Presiden John Trump,” “Donald J. Tt Trump” and more. By default, the Netvibes dashboard tracks each of these entities separately. […]

Happy 2017!

Thu, 12 Jan 2017 14:50:16 +0000

From the entire Netvibes team, we wish you a happy and magical new year! In 2016, Netvibes introduced many new features to the dashboard, including: Shared Libraries to organize lists of sources, a Geolocation facet so you can map where news is happening, Trend-Tracing Triggers so you can automate actions based on data trends and predictive analytics, and more. We are excited for what’s in store this year, and we’re sure you are too. We all tend to set lofty New Year’s Resolutions, and studies say about 25% of resolutions are abandoned by the end of the first week of the year. But with your Netvibes dashboard, you don’t have to be part of the statistic! Customize existing Netvibes Potions or create your own to monitor your success, keep track of progress, and increase motivation to stick with your 2017 goals. To get you started, here are a few ideas for Potions to keep your New Year’s Resolutions: Save money: I want to travel abroad this year, so I want to encourage myself to save for it. Whenever I receive an email about a deposit I make into my Travel Savings Account, send me a text that says, “You’re going […]

Social Analytics’ text cloud improvements

Thu, 05 Jan 2017 15:46:56 +0000

The What and Where Analytics apps offer several ways to represent their results, one of which is “Text cloud”. Text cloud displays the main keywords mentioned in the results. The more occurrences of a keyword, the bigger it is displayed. This view is especially convenient to spot trending topics at a glance. However, this view may also generate some noise or display keywords you are not interested in. For instance, an overall What analysis of the New York Times’ homepage feed may show the keywords “BBC” and “Reuters” even though NYT’s sources may not be relevant to you. That’s where the new improvements come into play. You are now able to hide the irrelevant keywords. To do so, click on the keyword you want to hide and click on the “Hide” option and “Done”. The app will automatically refresh to effectively hide the keyword and display the next keyword in line. You can see and unhide the keywords at any time by clicking on “Hidden values”. You can also instantly hide a whole bunch of associated keywords by clicking on the four-dot icon located on the app’s header, and then on “Settings”. On the Settings page you can uncheck the […]

Election Intelligence: Comparing U.S. and French presidential races

Thu, 15 Dec 2016 10:33:01 +0000

For the past several months, we’ve been analyzing news, social media, polling data and other information in Netvibes’ live 2016 U.S. Presidential Election Dashboard. The U.S. election is now over, but France’s 2017 presidential election is heating up. To track that race, our colleagues in Netvibes’ Paris office have created a live dashboard for the 2017 French Election. What can Dashboard Intelligence tell us about the different elections? Let’s dig into the data. Overview of the French Election The 2017 French election is currently in the primary process, which works much differently than in the U.S. In France, the primaries are optional and are run by each party in two rounds. France has a number of political parties, but only 2 major parties are running primaries this year: the Socialist party and the Republicans. The general election candidates for other major parties are already known, including: Marine Le Pen for the National Front, Emmanuel Macron, for his own movement, Jean-Luc Mélenchon for the Communist Party, Yannick Jadot for the Green Party, and likely more. The Republicans held their primaries in late November, and the winner in a surprise landslide was François Fillon, a relatively unknown politician who beat out several […]

New Netvibes Potion Ingredient: Google Sheets

Fri, 21 Oct 2016 15:28:29 +0000

You may have noticed that a new Ingredient appeared in the action section of your Potion wizard: we recently added support for Google Sheets. This new Ingredient allows you to add a line to any Google Sheets document of yours in response to any Trigger. Here are a few examples in which the Google Sheets Ingredient is called to action: Each member of a marketing team likes photos and videos on Instagram with their own Instagram accounts. They want to keep track of all the items liked by the team. All they need is a Potion with multiple Instagram Triggers (one per team member) and a Google Sheets action. A Netvibes Premium user tags a lot of items on her Dashboard. She adds the sentiment of her choice to every time she tags. She would like to see all of her tags on a single document, ordered by sentiment. She can create a Potion that adds a line on the first sheet of her Google Sheets document whenever she positively tags an item and another potion that adds a line on the second sheet of her document whenever she tags an item with a negative sentiment. A plant lover would […]

Map where news is taking place with Netvibes’ new Geolocation Facet

Thu, 08 Sep 2016 14:39:52 +0000

Netvibes dashboards deliver the real-time intelligence you need to monitor everything that matters to your business. With our newly launched Geolocation search facet, you can now visualize on a map where news is happening or where conversations are taking place. With just a click from the dashboard, you can instantly create a new map to see where any topic is being discussed. The map data reflects all of the locations that are mentioned in the relevant articles, but not where the articles are published. For example, an article about the Russian president’s trip to Iran published by the New York Times would be counted as a hit both for “Russia” and for “Iran,” but not “New York.” This level of categorization is important because it provides a comprehensive overview of all locations involved while delivering reliable, trustworthy results. With greater insight into where things are happening, you can better understand your market and make better business decisions. Netvibes’ auto-categorization analyzes the content on your dashboard and automatically identifies people, places, events, and other entities. For example, you can instantly find all the articles that mention “Elon Musk” (person) or “Paris” (city). With Netvibes Social Analytics (available for Premium dashboards), you […]

Netvibes Premium for Team makes collaboration easy. By introducing Private tabs, Netvibes will give you even more control over your content: You will soon be able to decide to share or hide content from the rest of your team. Quick background When Netvibes for Team users access their team’s dashboard for the first time, they retrieve a copy of the Master dashboard. They can then customize their own copy as they wish without altering the content of the Master dashboard. Only users granted with the Publisher role can connect to the Master Dashboard and make permanent changes to it. However, Publishers may want to keep some content located on the Master Dashboard private. To give you more control over what you share, we are planning to introduce Private Tabs next fall. Control more IoT devices: Netvibes Potions with Samsung ARTIK Cloud

Mon, 18 Jul 2016 15:14:40 +0000

Recently Netvibes had the pleasure of taking part in the Samsung Developer’s Conference in San Francisco. There we announced our partnership with Samsung’s ARTIK Cloud–a relationship that expands the power of Netvibes Potions to even more devices, consumers and businesses. With the integration of ARTIK into Netvibes, you will soon be able to connect any ARTIK-supported device to the Netvibes dashboard and create Potions using those ingredients. At the event, Netvibes CTO Florent Solt demonstrated Potions in action using an iHealth oximeter device, connected to Netvibes via ARTIK. Watch the demo video below: Samsung’s ARTIK Cloud supports a wide variety of smart devices and apps, including the Runkeeper app, iHealth oximeter, Fitbit, and other wearables. By bringing together ARTIK as the data collection layer and Netvibes as the automation layer, Netvibes and Samsung are empowering users to do more with the Internet of Things. This integration enables the creation of new types of Netvibes Potions, as demonstrated in the video. For example, you can create Potions like: Pulse recording — A runner is training for the marathon and wants to record her heart metrics over time. Monitoring aerospace certification and regulatory trends with Netvibes dashboards

Mon, 11 Jul 2016 20:00:46 +0000

The Aerospace and Defense industry faces the challenge of staying constantly abreast of the latest certification and regulatory changes and ensuring that their companies remain compliant. To do so, companies must not only monitor government and certification agencies around the world, but also track thousands of industry experts, including associations, laboratories, universities and thought leaders, to capture a full view of the trends impacting the market. When you add in the wealth of real-time information available through social media and other online channels, it’s easy to see how big this challenge is. A Certification & Regulatory intelligence dashboard can streamline and automate much of this monitoring process, efficiently keeping aerospace companies informed about the most important information impacting the industry. For the 2016 Farnborough International Airshow, being held this week in the United Kingdom, we set up a Netvibes dashboard to automatically monitor and analyze the current trends in aerospace and defense, as well as certification and regulatory changes on the horizon. The Netvibes dashboard monitors a wide variety of online sources published by industry experts, social media channels, news and blogs, with automatic charting and sentiment analysis to enable users to quickly understand what’s happening and home in on […]

Meet the Netvibes team: Raymon Lacy, summer intern

Thu, 23 Jun 2016 22:55:18 +0000

Last Friday, as the new intern at Netvibes, I had the opportunity to share my story with CBS 5 San Francisco. A tale 7 years in the making, my growth as an individual is showcased here–from a fresh-faced high school senior into a newly anointed graduate of UC Berkeley, embarking on the start of my career.
