What to see and do in St. Maarten?

Thinking about renting a car in St. Maarten to see the island for our upcoming Christmas cruise. Will have my husband's parents with us. For those who have been there (we have not), do you have some recommendations on what we should plan to see or do?

Were you on either ship last Thanksgiving (2008)?

I had a fuji finepix for years. It was kind of big and bulky and I thought I hated it, until......last year while at Maho Beach in St. Martin (the one w/the planes), I was taken out by a wave while I had the camera in my hand:guilty:. It was ruined:guilty:. So the tour guy took us to a camera...
