Find Your Way

Sun, 07 Aug 2016 00:00:00 -0600

(image)

WELCOME to this celebration of God’s grace at Saint James as God strengthens our faith through His Word and we respond with thanks and praise. Yesterday was VBS Sunday, when the children of our weeklong VBS shared their songs and recitations in our worship service. We will sing a couple of those songs tonight. Pastor’s Critchley’s sermon is based on the theme of this year’s VBS as he explores John 14:1-7 and asks the question: “What are the treasures God wants us to have and how do we find them?” His sermon theme is: “Find Your Way.”

Sun, 03 Jul 2016 00:00:00 -0600

(image)

“Comfort for the Nation.” When the stress of life is too much, where can we find comfort? Is comfort from God just platitudes, or does He truly have comfort to give? How do we find that comfort?

How Do We Recognize the Voice of God?

Sun, 17 Apr 2016 00:00:00 -0600

(image)

Social media, news media, opinions, noise! With so many voices constantly bombarding us, how do we filter it all so we can hear God?

I AM the Resurrection and the Life

Sun, 27 Mar 2016 00:00:00 -0600

(image)

“I AM the Resurrection and the Life.” None of Jesus\'s statements about His identity would\'ve meant anything if He were dead in a tomb today. Yet not only did He raise many others from death, He raised Himself, and because He lives, we will live with Him. But how does that change today?

I AM the Light of the World

Wed, 16 Mar 2016 00:00:00 -0600

(image)

THE TITLE FOR TODAY’S SERMON IS: “I Am the Light of the World.” Psalm 119:105 says that God’s Word is a lamp to our feet and a light to our path. In today’s text, John 8:12, Jesus points to Himself as that light. So how do we recognize light so we don’t walk in darkness?

“Whom should God love?”

Sun, 06 Mar 2016 00:00:00 -0600

(image)

Some people just seem to get away with everything. What happens when God’s love is bigger than we can handle?

How Can I Be Sure of Love?

Sun, 14 Feb 2016 00:00:00 -0600

(image)

In our wold, love and broken promises seem to go together. But when we want to be sure about love, how can we know?

The Sweet Law

Sun, 24 Jan 2016 00:00:00 -0600

(image)

The title for today\'s sermon is \"The Sweet Law.\" Does obedience excite you? Probably not. But the better we know God, the more we desire obedience to Him. Psalm 19:7-14, ESV The law of the LORD is perfect, reviving the soul; the testimony of the LORD is sure, making wise the simple; the precepts of the LORD are right, rejoicing the heart; the commandment of the LORD is pure, enlightening the eyes; the fear of the LORD is clean, enduring forever; the rules of the LORD are true, and righteous altogether. More to be desired are they than gold, even much fine gold; sweeter also than honey and drippings of the honeycomb. Moreover, by them is your servant warned; in keeping them there is great reward. Who can discern his errors? Declare me innocent from hidden faults. Keep back your servant also from presumptuous sins; let them not have dominion over me! Then I shall be blameless, and innocent of great transgression. Let the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart be acceptable in your sight, O LORD, my rock and my redeemer.

What is the Baptized Life?

Sun, 10 Jan 2016 00:00:00 -0600

(image)

Jesus didn\'t come to make bad people good - He came to make dead people alive. So if we have new life in Jesus, how is that different?

“How to Find What You’re Looking For.” What are you looking for in life? Peace? Contentment? Purpose? Direction? Clarity? Can we find the answers to our questions in Jesus?

Thankful for Adversity

Wed, 25 Nov 2015 00:00:00 -0600

(image)

It is hard to be thankful in hard timesaver when we know God is with us. So what needs to change so we can be truly thankful?

Why doesn’t God feed the hungry? #IDOP2015

Sun, 08 Nov 2015 00:00:00 -0600

(image)

This week, we observe the International Day of Prayer for the Persecuted Church while our High School Youth participate in the 30 Hour Famine to feed the hungry. Both beg the question of why God allows suffering.

The Secret of Mastering Money

Sun, 18 Oct 2015 00:00:00 -0600

THE TITLE OF TODAY’S SERMON IS: “The Secret to Mastering Money.” We all want to manage our possessions, but let’s be honest – it usually manages us. How can we find peace with our possessions?

Sun, 27 Sep 2015 00:00:00 -0600

(image)

We often disagree on various points with other Christians. How should we handle those disagreements?

How Can We See God?

Sun, 06 Sep 2015 00:00:00 -0600

(image)

George Bernard Shaw said, “God created man in His image, and then man returned the favor.” Does God need us to remake His image, or do we need to be remade in His? What does such a makeover look like?

Marked For Life

Sun, 09 Aug 2015 00:00:00 -0600

(image)

Being marked for Life means God has marked us for eternal life, won for us by Jesus\' life, death and resurrection. How and for what purpose did God mark you?

God WILL Give You More Than You Can Handle!

Sun, 26 Jul 2015 00:00:00 -0600

(image)

Today\'s Service is based on the text: Mark 6:45-56.  You\'ve heard (and probably said), \"God won\'t give your more than you can handle,\" but God never promised that! Actually, He promised just the opposite, so what do we do when He does give us more?

Sun, 12 Jul 2015 00:00:00 -0600

Sometimes, it seems like we’re looking at the world in a funhouse mirror. Precise truth becomes impossible. But through the lens of the Gospel, all becomes clear.

The Hidden Kingdom Among Us

Sun, 21 Jun 2015 00:00:00 -0600

(image)

The Kingdom of God is among us, and our world has trouble seeing it, but those who can see it, see everything differently. The life of Saint Paul and his companions wasn’t easy, but through their hardships, they saw God’s hand in their lives. Would that we were more eager to see God’s hand than to have the ease that the world offers!

What is God’s Currency?

Sun, 07 Jun 2015 00:00:00 -0600

(image)

God owns all things. He created all things good, and every good thing we have is a gift from Him. So then what does God value? Do we value the same things He does? Does it make sense that we should? God didn\'t just set us free. He came with us in our freedom and is with us always. Jesus fulfilled the Ten Commandments for us so we can be in His loving presence forever.

Why Wonder at the Wonderful?

Sun, 19 Apr 2015 00:00:00 -0600

When we see God at work, it can leave us shocked and amazed, but why does this surprise us? Or maybe we just don\'t see God at work enough. Do we know what to look for?

How Can I Know God?

Sun, 22 Mar 2015 00:00:00 -0600

(image)

Knowing about someone isn\'t the same as knowing someone. That\'s true of God as well. So how can we know God instead of just knowing about God? The prophet Jeremiah promised this would be possible!

Mark 9:2-9 – How to See God’s Glory

Sun, 15 Feb 2015 00:00:00 -0600

(image)

As we finish the Epiphany season, focusing on revealing Jesus as the Son of God, Transfiguration transitions us into Lent, which focuses on Jesus\' humiliation and suffering for us. This day bridges those two by revealing Jesus\' glory, the voice declaring Him to be God\'s Son, and the transition from Moses and Elijah, representing the Old Covenant, to Jesus\' New Covenant. We pray that God would make us willing to \"listen to Him\" as the Father commands the disciples on the mountain.
