For peat's sake: Peat and resource development in provincial parks

RPN Intern Leif Larsen spent a day hiking around a peat bog with Eric Reder from the Manitoba Chapter of the Wilderness Committee. Larsen was interested in seeing the land that had been leased to a peat mining company. 

In this documentary Larsen and Reder talk about the value of peat, and why the Wilderness Committee are so opposed to any kind of resource development in provincial parks.

Jenna Morrison was one of two cyclists killed in Toronto. Tonight, NDP Transport Critic Olivia Chow is holding a public meeting to talk about a bill that would make guard rails on trucks mandatory in order to protect cyclists. Tomas Urbina is a documentarian who has been covering the issue and he sent us this documentary on cyclist safety, and we thought we'd present it here.

From August to December 2006, broadcaster Michael Riordon recorded over 40 hours of interviews and on-location sound impressions at eleven organic farms, as vegetables and herbs were harvested, and animals tended. Together the eight programs provide a dynamic vision of organic farming, a small co-operative in action, and rural survival.

Between June 8th and 10th, hundreds of citizens representing grassroots and labour organizations held three days of protests and workshops in Saint John, NB against a new proposed free-trade corridor, euphemistically titled "Atlantica"; Meanwhile, within a conference entittled "Reaching Atlantica: Business Without Borders" held at the Saint John Trade and Convention Centre, some of Atlantic Canada's wealthiest residents were mapping out what they believe will be an economic model for the region's future.

Kenya - A Mine Contraversy

Tiomin Resources, a Toronto-based mining company, concluded a deal with the Kenyan government in July 2004 for a 21 year lease to mine for titanium in Kwale district, Kenya. The mine is estimated to displace around 5000 Digo and Kamba people who currently reside in the area marked for the project.
