Emily of the State - Internet Spying Short

Thu, 29 Mar 2007 22:56:11 +0000

(image)
A parody of government internet spying. Synopsis: Bell Sympatico is monitoring on your internet use and could be willing to give it over to the Federal Government. Find out how, in this Cynically Tested short. Side Note: Please Don't Sue Us Bell. Update: The Canadian Liberal Party has announced introduced the Modernization of Investigative Techniques Act (MITA) as Bill C-416, a private members bill. What does that mean? Well let's ask the inspiration for the video Michael Geist. "Last introduced by the Liberals in the fall of 2005, MITA mandates the installation of new surveillance technologies within Canadian networks along with additional legal powers to access surveillance and subscriber information. Often referred to as the "lawful access" initiative, the legislation would compel Internet service providers to install new interception capabilities as they upgrade their networks. The country's major ISPs, who provide service to the majority of Canadians, would eventually be capable of intercepting data and isolating specific subscribers. Among the most troubling aspects of Bill C-416 is a series of new powers that are not accompanied by any judicial oversight. Law enforcement authorities, including the police, CSIS agents, and even Competition Bureau authorities, will have the right to obtain ISP subscriber information simply upon request without a warrant. " For more check out Michael Geist's Article -" Liberals try to Resuscitate Big Brother plan for the Internet " From the Ottawa Citizen March 27 2007. http://www.michaelgeist.ca/content/view/1828/159/

The iPhone has nothing on this Phone!

Fri, 12 Jan 2007 22:27:44 +0000

(image)
Remember the days when phone's were used for talking? Neither do we! We here at Cynically Tested won't even borrow someone's phone if it doesn't at least have a video game from the 80's and a camera we can use to prove we have friends and they're willing to be stupid on camera. That's why when asked by Wonyub to make our commercial directorial debut we sold out and made this new commercial for the greatest phone you'll ever see! Steve Jobs should watch out, because the iphone has nothing on the DS331 from Wonyub! With Love, Dan and Wes

Just for Hacks Gags

Sun, 07 Jan 2007 23:28:31 +0000

(image)
Happy 2007 Kids! Canadians will recognize this - you might even recognize this if you've been in airplane in the last 5 years it's a show called Just for Laughs Gags. (resist inserting your own pun of gags). Anyways for those of you who don't know, it is a god awful Candid Camera style show produced in our home country of Canada (we're sorry). There is no dialogue just awful carnie music put to some sort of unfunny prank. Because this show has the total budget of a mcdeal, they air it every chance they get on three different networks here. So enough was enough!- This is for everyone who has ever had to sit through an episode of this garbage with their family or culture challenged friends - Cynically Tested proudly presents Just for Hacks Gags! Notes from the Guys, - This was one of our first shorts we ever did about two years ago. (That's why it looks so awful... no really that's why.. sighs..). - Canadian Paparazzi: The Directors Cut was our first short film - it won the 2005 Canadian National Youth Film Fest Standing Ovation award (begins to pat self on back while other hand blows horn) - The N was the original title of the Only Channel we changed it shortly after this short. - And yes we really do hate TBS With Apathy, Dan and Wes

Media Hype - Does the Media Sensationalize Things?

Fri, 10 Nov 2006 05:39:24 +0000

(image)
Don't you love when the stories where the media covers itself? Yeah, neither do we. In this clip the media asks "Does the Media Sensationalize things?" Well, DO THEY? Notes from Cynically Tested This video was featured on VH1's Best Week Ever Blog. This video got one of our favourite YouTube responses - "It's a shame your videos get such a low amount of views. While other crappier videos get hundreds of thousands. " - GOOOFYproductions Seriously, if we ever get a dvd, that should go on the jacket. There's nothing better than admitting you're not popular while spewing pure bitterness at cats falling off ceiling fans. (image)
Sick of the Easy Bible ads? We were too. So we decided we'd put our own twist on this marketing campaign. Introducing "The Easy Bible" the answer to WWJD? has never been sooo Easy! Notes from Dan: This video has been featured by Atheists United as well as the no god blog. Recently it was voted a top viewer pick by the kids over at BiteTV. Just so you know, no fire nor brimstone has fallen upon the members of Cynically Tested during or after this video was made. If you know Pat Robertson please feel free to pass this along. Nostalgia Lane

Sat, 12 Aug 2006 21:17:39 +0000

(image)
Cynically Tested presents Nostalgia Lane a show reminding Baby Boomers how ridiculous their nostalgia industry is. This week host Duke Denver and co host hula hoop remember their favourite 60's toy "Black Buddy". Did you have one? Notes: Taping a video satire using something resembling Al Jolson the doll can be very awkward. Use your imaginations.

Cynically Tested's: Worst Week Yet!

Fri, 28 Jul 2006 06:17:39 +0000

(image)
Cynically Tested presents the first episode of their new weekly pop culture parody show "Worst Week Yet". In this episode Wes tells us who is too thin. Brian reminds us of the 80's and Cynically Tested presents their directors cut of Paris Hilton's latest video. And remember things are going to get worse. Dan Notes: For those who've caught this page and realized we haven't updated, we apologize. We've been working on the new podcast idea as well as two new shorts we hope to have up in the next two weeks. But finally this mini show came together. Nobody cares I know, but podomatic suggests notes and I'm a slave to what pop ups tell me. We hope you'll come back now that the show is up and we'll be doing our best to make sure every week you have a new one. As well as comedy shorts through out the week. So tell us what you think . This episode was made quickly and is a sample of what is to come. Sometimes it will pop culture others will focus more on the news. Nevertheless it will be satire of some sort. So leave us some comments - some requests - some votes for the anorexicmeter you know whatever you like. Thanks Dan

ep 6: Pimp My Fridge

Thu, 06 Jul 2006 18:24:51 +0000

(image)
This episode is pretty self explanatory. We switched ride - to fridge... And hilarity ensues. Notes From Dan: This parody has been our most popular post for better or worse. It's the most "mainstream" video we've done and we're not sure if we got our point across. Our Point: Pimp my Ride is shallow nonsense and the fact people spend their time doing this depresses us. As well they usually get rid of things a car needs like say a back window! I know everyone needs a playstation in their car and all but seriously you have no friends so it doesn't matter. Second Point: In Canada we don't have any good original Canadian tv shows so we just import from the U.S. or knock off a show from the U.S. - Canadian Idol, Video on Trial, Uncovered, Girls will be Girls, Much on Demand- etc etc.etc. So that's why this parody is of fridges and is such low quality. Oh yeah, well that and we don't have a budget. This video has been a featured post at Addicting Clips, VidiLife and was the Google Video of the Day. Unfortunately I think people really just like the idea of fridges being pimped. Most comments are good idea!! NO NOT A GOOD IDEA - It's a parody!!.. sighs. Sad Fact: There is now actually a website in Canada where some guy is pimpin fridges - YOU CAN'T MAKE FUN OF ANYTHING - things have become this bad. www.pimpmyfridge.ca - Sighs. Anyways we're taking a break for the weekend so we posted two today - so brace yourselves. Their is a post below too. Thanks again to the guys at Hollow9ine! Cool show guys. I give you a better thanks below.. more reason to scroll down kids! With Love, Dan

Ep 5 - Because They Can - Ipod Version

Thu, 06 Jul 2006 18:09:48 +0000

(image)
Everyone seemed to like the preview of this so much that we wanted to make sure you could easily download it to your portable device. Special Thanks to TomPaine.com who on Wednesday made our spoof "Sponsor a Missile" their PASS IT ON feature. Another Special thanks to the guys at Hollow9ine for giving us a shout out on their show. Be sure to check their show out - it's pretty original. Warning you will have to use your imagination if you listen - there are no fancy flashing pictures (you remember your imagination, right kids?). Check them out here: http://hollow9ine.podomatic.com/ Cynically Tested presents Because They Can. A Parody of VH1' s the Fabulous Life Of. Notes From Dan: After posting this at YouTube the real voice over actor from the show Chris Flockton emailed us and said his wife loved the spoof and made him watch it. For the record that whole "american actor putting on a fake british accent" we were just kidding Chris, really. Honestly the show is umm what's the word - ahh nevertheless thanks for the email. This sketch has two versions, one where the audio exists for the commentators and one where it doesn't. Let's be honest these people have nothing to say. This video is the first that we know of to feature a "gay floating head". We feel we've brought a lot of issues forward for a lot of people. So there you have it, enjoy and tell us what you think and if you haven't already tell people about the podcast! Thanks, Dan

Ep 4: Cynically Tested Pilot - Ep 2

Wed, 05 Jul 2006 09:07:01 +0000

(image)
The second of three Pilots done for the now non existent Reel Blogs. In this episode Brian wants to quit his job but doesn't want to deal with the confrontation so he gets Dan to call in for him. We gave this episode the CNN treatment, so be sure to watch the clip again and read the ticker complete with made up news stories. Notes From Dan: Though this was done as improv - the story itself happened a few days before. I really did quit a job for my roommate over the phone. Unlike some I'm Pro Confrontation. Cynically Tested's Sponsor a Missile post is getting some attention from the Blogs - it has been featured on Jesus General, Talk Left and LeftWord so thanks to those blogs for linking us. If you have any questions or comments leave us a message and maybe we'll do a podcast answering your question - or maybe we'll ignore it. That's the risk you have to be willing to take.

Ep:3 Biting The Hand That Feeds Us - Ipod Spoof

Mon, 03 Jul 2006 08:36:07 +0000

(image)
Cynically Tested presents the latest Mp3 player. So small it doesn't even exist. Rant: Does anyone else hate Apples monopoly on the music world right now? If you go anywhere it looks like a National Geographic documentary on our species but instead of tags on our ears, we all have ear buds. Soylent Green is itunes? Besides the fact their basically the only Mp3 player anyone owns; they're also influencing the music industry, and not in the best way. Radio stations now try to go for a formula of "itunes-esque" - which means it's possible you'll hear the Velvet Underground followed by Cyndi Lauper. (i'm kidding they don't play the Velvet Underground on the radio). If i wanted to hear James Taylor and Jay Z back to back I would have killed myself years ago and gone directly to hell - instead of waiting around for it to meet me on earth. If that's not enough, you have albums coming out now that sound like an itunes play list - like Gwen Stefani's hit LAMB (because sheep would have been too obvious). From Nelly Furtado to Paris Hilton, the trendy album is one where the closest thing to a consistent sound you'll hear is if you put your ear really close to cd player and listen to it spin. Which won't even happen on your ipod. Music videos made it about style over substance, and now itunes has made it style/"diversity" over having your own sound. Video killed the radio star, but the itunes silouhettes are dancing on it's grave. Now enjoy the podcast! (what you hate tv too, but you know you watch it). Notes From Dan: This was one of the first spoofs we did back in the late summer of '05. This clip was featured on the anti ipod page - (i assume they wouldn't approve of our podcast). Trivia No one could possibly care about: Who's hand is being featured in this spoof? a) Dan b)Brian c) Wes For all you die hard Cynically Tested fans* - that's Wes' hand. He is also the hand stamping the letter in Sponsor a Missile. Wes McClintock is the official hand model of Cynically Tested. Insincerely, Dan *Cynically Tested does not actually have fans

ep 2: Sponsor a Missile

Sat, 01 Jul 2006 04:47:45 +0000

(image)
Homeland Security presents a new way to help fund the war on terror by making the war interactive and letting you sponsor a missile. A parody by Cynically Tested. Cynically Tested Notes: The area at the beginning and end is actually a cemetary. The area in between is Crawford (I kid). Music for all Cynically Tested shorts is done by Wes McClintock. Wes plays the Soldier in this short. Both Crossheirs are actually crosses. We're Canadian: On the sponsor a missile sheet it says "favourite" - we're sticking by our story that it's a British missile that was given to the U.S. The bomb icon on the missile screen represents the estimated 100 000 civilian lives lost so far in Iraq. We're trying to get this off the ground, so if you like our shorts, tell your friends and let them know we're here. Thanks, Dan

Ep 1: Cynically Tested Pilot : The First Focus Group

Fri, 30 Jun 2006 09:19:58 +0000

(image)
For the first video you can download on your mp3 player, we thought we would let you get to know us. Meet Cynically Tested and find out what we think is wrong with society, television and other comedy video podcasts. Premise: Evolution? or Creationism? What about a Focus Group? We let you in on the first focus group that created the planet. We tried to make things better- we swear. Notes from CT: Late last year a site called "Reel Blogs" (I prefer blahgs) asked us to put a comedy pilot together. So we wrote a proposal and they gave us a "green light" to make three pilot episodes and see where we would go from there. The thing is we're not that fond of sitcoms or the cookie cutter comedy you find on tv or even the kind on YouTube. So our video podcast sets out to mock those exact cliches . Unfortunately Reel Blogs closed it's site after a few short months and so these pilots never saw the light of day. Until now. We're planning on bringing you sketches, parodies and weekly newscast. Let us know what you think, we want to hear from you. Leave us comments and suggestions for things you'd like to see. Dan (The Cynical One)
