This can come in quite handy when those occasional flare ups arise from file servers where one might typically store their VHD(x)s.When the VHD becomes unavailable, FSLogix automatically checks to see if this was in fact the intended behavior. If this was not the intended behavior, then the VHD will reattach without any user interaction, or adminstrative manipulation. There is no need for the user to logoff and log back on.For additional information and how to configure this feature of the High Availability Subsystem, please see ReAttachRetryCount and ReAttachIntervalSeconds:Online DocumentationGranular Control Over User Profile ConfigurationsIn this instance, FSLogix Profile Configuration Settings can be modified to override their default settings (user specific > group specific > normal) to add flexibility in managing your users’ profiles. What makes this so useful is the fact that you can span and store your user profiles in a variety of ways. For example, let’s say we need to have one group that uses VHD profile containers and another that uses VHDX. Or, let’s consider a scenario where we wish to span our users across an array of separate file servers, while grouping them by file server. All of this can be achieved with just a few quick clicks. ‘Ok, so I can choose the type of container and where they should reside, but what about our end users that need those containers?’We all know that some users can be like that furry critter we’ve watched virally invade social media, and end up caught in some precarious scenarios. This is where it’s up to us to protect the users from themselves by setting criteria, or restricting specific capabilities, such as not allowing certain users to roam the Search Index.Multi-Profile SupportSince the release of our Best of Citrix Synergy 2015, award winning FSLogix Profile Containers, one question has commonly lingered amongst our customers, partners, and prospects. Can FSLogix Profiles support different profiles? The answer is YES. You can now store different profiles for the same user. For example, if a user logs onto a Windows 7 machine, then later into a Windows 2012 R2 session, then two Profile Containers will be created, and persist for that user.User Profile Safety NetIn this facet of the design, we enable the means to force the use of a Profile Container. In case a Profile Container cannot be loaded (or created), the user will not be allowed to start a session but will instead be presented with a (customizable) message. Here’s how it works: when a user is SUPPOSED to get a FSLogix Profile, but there is some error preventing it:A local profile is createdFrxshell.exe replaces the shell (Explorer.exe)When frxshell is terminated by the user, the session is ended and the local profile (that was just created) is removed. The default message displayed by frxshell is: “The user profile failed to attach.  Please contact support.” But this can be easily modified to display whatever makes the most sense for the scenario.Additional EnhancementsWhile weR[...]

Do you know when they need help or are you fully aware that they are OK and following their daily routines? The world’s getting a smaller place, technology is getting more interconnected and families are now living further away from each other than ever. Old people can sometimes feel on the sidelines in this new world, not really grasping new communication technology but still wanting their own independence.A new product is has been developed to try and bridge this gap and offer peace of mind to you and your elderly family. The Carehub, simply put is a new gadget that offers a host of features that help families care for each other and stay in touch. The Carehub comprises of 2 elements, the device and the app:‘The whole idea for the Carehub started with 2 brothers who worked abroad and were looking at a way to stay in touch with their 75 year old mother, like many elderly people FaceTime and Skype proved difficult for them to use. So they were looking for a simple device to communicate with their mum to their smartphones, they couldn’t find one. This necessity was compounded when their mum fell in the shower, dislocated her shoulder and took a few hours for them to find out about it.Don Munro says continues:‘We started on this project early this year and have been working with a hardware developer in China and are now confident we have the hardware solution. We’re looking for help to fund the development of the app and also want to get the idea of the Carehub out there.’The Carehub device is packed with a camera and multiple sensors, these sensor, combined with a simple to use user interface app for smartphone and tablet offer the following features:Two Way Communication: How many times have you tried to teach your parents to use Skype or FaceTime for a two way call…and failed? With the Carehub it couldn’t be easier, mum presses the button on the top of the unit and calls straight through to the app.Motion/ Non-Motion Alert: Do you want an alert in the morning when mum gets up and makes breakfast? Or more importantly, do you want an alert if she doesn’t get up and trigger the motion sensors before 10am?Critical Temperature Alert: In many countries, elderly people run a serious risk of illness or worse because their homes reach a critical temperature as they generally tolerate the conditions to save money on their energy bills. The Carehub can be set to alert you if your parent’s home has reached to a critical temperature so you can act quickly.Reminder Alerts: The Carehub has this cool little feature to make sure your folks never forget those important things again…You can record an audio message from your smartphone and set the times and days when this message should activate on the Carehub device.  There will be an audible beep from the Carehub and the LED will flash purple. Mum presses the button on the top of the device to listen to the reminder message.Motion Activated Nightlight: To minimize the risk of night-time accidents the Carehub has a nightlight which is activated from the motion detector.Local TF Card Storage: A lot of people have concerns over remote storage of home images. Many other cameras on the market use cloud storage video images and charge extra for subscribing for this. We keep it simple, the Carehub has local storage on a TF card which can be retrieved locally. And with no cloud storage comes no monthly subscr[...]

“Have you ever considered volunteering to make this world a little bit better, but you didn’t have the time, or it was too complicated to squeeze into your schedule?  Well, now you can.  Now there is an app for that,” said Be My Eyes inventor, Hans Jørgen Wiberg at his TEDxCopenhagen talk.

The idea for the application came from Wiberg, a 50-year-old Danish furniture craftsman who has been losing his vision since he was 25. Through his work at “The Danish Association of the Blind” he recognized that visually impaired often need help to cope with smaller everyday tasks. In April, 2012 he presented the idea for an application at a startup event in Denmark. At this event he met the rest of the Be My Eyes team. Since 2012 the team has worked diligently to make the vision a reality, releasing the app in January 15th, 2015.

Making IT work: Cached Exchange Mode in Virtual Desktops

Check out the review, below.Buy the Masione Bluetooth earbuds on Amazon, on sale for $25.99, including Prime shipping for members.Design: Elegant silver on black design gives them a pricey appearance without the extra costSound Quality: Excellent. I did not notice any distortion at the highest volume and they produce great highs and lows.Comfort: They are light and offer a very snug fit in the ear canal and they do not fall out with regular wear. During a workout I only had to occasionally re-adjust them and only while running at a fast pace. They come with a variety of attachments that should get these into just about any ear.Built-in mic: The noise cancellation is very good. Driving with the window open, I was still able to have a conversation and the noise only starts to marginally interfere at highway speeds with an open window.Features: All the expected controls are in place and easy to access. Charging uses an included micro USB and I also like that the micro port on the earbuds has a sturdy cover. Most earbuds use a rubber one that tends to get loose after a while. Although you need to be careful because you could break this one off if you pull it to hard. They also provide voice prompts for various functions such as on/off and volume controls.Overall: There is no doubt these will please anyone looking to go wireless with their earbuds. They offer everything you’d expect from Bluetooth earbuds and the sound quality is right up there with earbuds that cost $100 or more. We are very impressed with the level of detail and quality Lumsing put into these. They could have easily charged more.Source: Masione Bluetooth Earbuds on GadgetMadness - New Gadgets, Gadget Reviews, Electronic Gizmos, & Technology News [...]

Not to be confused with Project Fi, if Google’s own network sees the light of day, it will not rely on other telecom providers, allowing Google to do more with it and offer better pricing.

In a recent Reuters article they indicated that Apple has denied claims that they are testing their own telecom service that would eventually be used as a bundle deal with their mobile devices. It’s not uncommon for companies to deny claims of solutions that are in planning and testing phases, because from a technical perspective the end result is usually very different from early stages and setting expectations to early can do more harm than good. From a financial stand point it can create a false positive on share prices because of expectations that may or may not even develop into anything.

While Apple is denying these claims, I heard from a source close to Google that they are testing their own telecom solutions and what they are planning will make Apple’s job a lot harder if they are successful. I don’t have details, but it sounds like not only will they offer highly competitive prices, but they are working on a way to offer free plans. If Google does figure it out, initially it will only be available in select large metropolitan areas and will have certain conditions. My guess is that it will be limited to local calling and will probably not provide data. None the less, that would make Google’s cell services highly attractive and will most likely shoot them right to the top of telecom service offerings.
