2012 Super Bowl XLVI Streamed Live Online

Wed, 21 Dec 2011 17:52:11 Z

Our voices have been heard! One of the biggest television events of the year, the NFL's Super Bowl will be streamed live online for the first time ever. Watch the 2012 Super Bowl, the two wild card playoff games on Jan. 7, and the Pro Bowl on Jan. 29 live online. Super Bowl 46 will be held in Indianapolis on February 5, 2012.

The live TV streams will be available via both the NFL's and NBC's websites. We will have full coverage and the direct links once they are up and established. Additionally, Verizon's NFL mobile app will also provide live streaming coverage of the game.

According to the NFL, the Super Bowl's Internet TV live stream will offer multiple camera angles, in-game highlights, and live stats they currently offer via their current online options.

The question is whether this is a sign that the NFL will be embracing more online streaming for the future? I'm sure a lot of people who don't have cable or satellite would gladly pay to watch the NFL Network games live online.(image)

Find Internet TV Unveils Social Media Networking and Sharing Capabilities

Thu, 18 Aug 2011 00:00:00 Z

Find Internet TV, the popular online television guide with more than 100,000 users, announced today new social media engagement and sharing capabilities. The new enhancements enable users to “tune in” and follow their favorite television shows, movies, celebrities, sports, and live events. Users can also connect and share entertainment experiences on popular social networks like Facebook, Twitter, Google+, among others, and see what their friends are watching online.

To start using the new capabilities, users can register on Find Internet TV or use an existing account from twelve other websites such as Google and Yahoo. Once logged in, users can search, find, and follow friends or invite friends via email and social networks.

Instead of “checking in,” users can “tune-in” and share entertainment throughout Find Internet TV with friends. Users can "Like," "Dislike," or mark as a "Favorite" anything on the site from live television sporting events to movies or classic television programs and share their viewing experiences and recommendations. Find Internet TV users can also post comments and reviews throughout the site and distribute those through Twitter, Facebook or dozens of other social networks.

Unlike other sites, Find Internet TV not only allows users to share entertainment and viewing experiences, but also provides a comprehensive guide of what is available to watch online. People can find sports broadcasts live online, full-length movies, live concerts, free full episodes of television shows, and other online television programing. Users can tune in to a live webcast from the live Internet TV guide or watch full episodes of thousands of archived online TV shows from around the world.

With the new social integration, people can tweet the exact location, date and time of a live event shown online and arrange an Internet TV gathering of friends from around the globe to watch the live action. Viewers can share comments and reactions as if everyone were grouped around the same screen.

“Thousands of users come to Find Internet TV each day to discover entertainment to watch online and where to watch it,” said Find Internet TV founder Curtis Sund. “Find Internet TV’s new social media enhancements provide a new level of entertainment and a place to chat with others who are watching the same online TV shows, movies, or live TV events. This is social Internet TV.”(image)

Fox Moving Online TV Shows Behind a Pay Wall

Thu, 28 Jul 2011 21:49:33 Z

Nowadays people prefer doing everything online as it makes life easier for everyone. Such is the case with traditional television, which has been declining in viewership due to the comfort of people being able to watch nearly anything anytime they want online. More and more people are "cutting the cord" and watching television content via their computers, connected TVs, or on mobile devices.

Noticing this shift, most major broadcasting companies have typically made full episodes of their television shows available 24 hours after they premier. That's about to change for Fox television. Users wanting to watch Fox's full episodes online will have to pay a monthly fee or have a paid cable/satellite TV subscription in order to access their content. In our opinion, this is a major step back for Fox and doesn't embrace the image of the Internet, which was made primarily to have information readily available and free for users.

According to a recent Wall Street Journal report, not every user will have to pay to view Fox TV shows on their website. On one hand users with a cable/satellite TV subscription will be able to enjoy the shows anytime at no extra charge. On the other hand, users with no subscription to either service will have to wait a minimum of eight days or pay up before they can watch the shows.

As a result, making non cable/satellite TV subscribers pay to view shows made by Fox will have a negative impact on their image and the social media effect. Was Fox not generating enough money from advertising revenue? Prior to this move, Fox would include 30 second ads in between segments of their online TV shows. Or is Fox clearly afraid of too many people cutting the cord?

Unfortunately, it has gotten to the point where companies want more and more money no matter what the final outcome is, even if it means them losing thousands of fans in the process. Another possible negative impact, as reported by GigaOm in response to their own news story, is that viewers will "go back to pirating content." We can't help but question the value this move will add.(image)

AOL HD App Comes to Boxee, Roku, Yahoo! Connected TV and Divx

Thu, 28 Jul 2011 16:53:01 Z

In the last year, AOL has been on a shopping spree for popular online web properties, which include Moviefone, Engadget, and Huffington Post to name a few. Now AOL is looking to distribute content from those entities in high definition via a new dedicated AOL HD app across connected TV platforms including Boxee, Roku, Yahoo! Connected TV and Divx. AOL plans to extend AOL HD to other connected platforms in the coming months.

The new service, dubbed quite simply AOL HD, allows users to watch HD AOL video and audio content for free by streaming online offerings directly to their television set.

AOL HD will feature three main channels of high-definition AOL Huffington Post Media Group content - entertainment, technology and home. Each channel will feature content from properties like Moviefone, Engadget and HuffPost Entertainment. Other content will include cooking videos from celebrity chef personalities like Curtis Stone and Gail Simmons, as well as AOL Music's full CD Listening Party (CDLP) audio content, which allows users to listen to free previews of entire albums before they're released. AOL will introduce new video channels and content, including casual games, later this year.(image)

ESPN, ESPN2, ESPNU and ESPN3.com are now available to Time Warner Cable, Bright House Networks and Verizon FiOS TV subscribers via the new 'WatchESPN' App for iPad, iPhone and iPod touch, now available on the App Store. We've downloaded the app and tried it and must say this is absolutely amazing for a sports network to be doing this. Finally, a television network that gets it and is allowing us to view our paid programming anywhere we want.

Time Warner Cable, Bright House Networks and Verizon FiOS TV subscribers who receive the linear networks as part of their video subscription can now watch the channels from the convenience of their iPad, iPhone or iPod touch. This app gives 24/7 access to live streaming feeds from all of the ESPN networks.

The WatchESPN app features live streaming access to:

  • Major League Baseball
  • The Masters, US Open and The Open Championships

You also can watch all of ESPN's network shows like SportsCenter, PTI, Mike & Mike, SportsNation, Basebal Tonight, and every other ESPN original show.

“Innovation continues to drive ESPN,” said George Bodenheimer, president, ESPN, Inc. and ABC Sports. “When we launched in 1979, nobody envisioned a day when people would carry ESPN in their pockets. But here we are. And we’ve reached this watershed moment for the industry through tremendous collaboration with forward-thinking partners.”

The free WatchESPN App includes a simple user interface that takes the current online viewing experience to the high-resolution, Multi-Touch displays of iPad, iPhone and iPod touch. Once a user downloads WatchESPN from the App Store, they will receive instructions to enter their cable subscriber credentials and access their favorite ESPN content on their device. A version of the application optimized for the Apple iPad will be available free to download in May.

Added Sean Bratches, executive vice president, sales and marketing for ESPN, "This represents the culmination of our efforts over the last five years. We strive to serve the sports fan wherever they consume sports, and I can’t think of a better way to do that than making our networks available to fans whenever and wherever they might be.”

The company first launched an online-accessible authenticated version of ESPN in October, 2010. Authenticated versions of ESPN2, ESPNU and ESPN Buzzer Beater/Goal Line launched in January, 2011. Consumers can access the channels through a centralized website, ESPNnetworks.com.

Time Warner Customers Can Watch ESPN3 Online

Fri, 03 Sep 2010 15:54:18 Z

Time Warner and Disney/ABC/ESPN have reached to a new long-term, wide-ranging agreement that secures the usual services customers already enjoy and also provides new functionality like viewing access online of ESPN3.com. In addition to subscribers gaining access to ESPN3.com, customers will also have access to other new services including Disney Junior, ESPN Goal Line, ESPN Buzzer Beater, ESPN Deportes HD, ESPN 3D, and expanded video on-demand offerings including ABC on-demand.

ESPN's live sports broadband network, ESPN3.com (formerly ESPN360), will be available to all Time Warner Cable and Bright House Networks subscribers who get ESPN.  ESPN3.com gives Time Warner Cable and Bright House Networks fans a 24/7 online destination that delivers more than 3,500 live, global sports events annually as part of TV Everywhere.  This addition also gives Time Warner Cable and Bright House Networks the rights to feature cleared content from ESPN3.com on its sports tier. We have not heard any word yet how long it will take for this to get activated. Currently, ESPN3.com is still blocking Time Warner cable customers.

Another new online TV feature is that Time Warner Cable and Bright House Networks subscribers will gain access to a new authenticated service, which will give the opportunity to watch the linear networks ESPN, ESPN2 and ESPNU through their Internet services as well as mobile Internet devices, like an iPad. Details on the launch will be forthcoming.

A new service, developed with Time Warner Cable, called ESPN Goal Line; a super-highlight channel that will be available only to Time Warner Cable and Bright House Networks sports tier subscribers as early as September 4.  ESPN Goal Line will take fans around the best matchups each Saturday during the NCAA football season.  The once-a-week network will include live look-ins to game action focusing on scoring drives and up-to-the minute commentary from analysts and experts.  A similar service called ESPN Buzzer Beater will be available for the college basketball season.

In off topic news, ESPN Deportes HD and ESPN 3D will also become available to Time Warner Cable and Bright House Networks’ systems. It could be awhile until Time Warner activates these services.(image)

Live Feed From BP's Oil Spillcam

Fri, 21 May 2010 17:49:03 Z

Following a demand from Rep. Edward J. Markey (D-Mass.) for a live feed of the BP oil spill to be made publicly available on the web, BP said they would release the feed. It is now shown on the website of Markey’s Select Committee on Energy Independent and Global Warming.

“This may be BP’s footage, but it’s America’s ocean. Now anyone will be able to see the real-time effects the BP spill is having on our ocean,” said Rep. Markey, who conducted a briefing today with independent scientists where he reiterated the call for a video feed. “This footage will aid analysis by independent scientists blocked by BP from coming to see the spill.”

Markey sent letters earlier today to BP America’s CEO Lamar McKay asking for the footage to be made public on BP’s website. If BP could not host the footage, Rep. Markey offered to host it on his website free of charge.

“BP is going to have to pay for the cleanup of this spill and the long-term damage. Hosting this video on our website is the only freebie they’re going to get,” Rep. Markey said.

The letter sent to McKay today can be found here
.
Rep. Markey has frequently queried BP for more information on the exact size of the spill and on their refusal to engage with outside scientists. Independent scientists have examined video, satellite photos and other aspects of the spill and determined that it may be much bigger than estimated. Today at a briefing Rep. Markey held in his Energy and Environment Subcommittee, independent scientists from Purdue University and Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution said that the estimate of a 5,000 barrel per day leak was an underestimation of the flow. The scientists said with more data, they could better calculate the flow of oil from the sea floor.

"This is 4th grade math. We know the numerator here—the couple thousand barrels a day BP is siphoning out of the sunken pipe. But we still don’t know the denominator," said Rep. Markey. "BP is capturing a fraction of the oil, but they don’t know what that fraction is. By releasing this video, we’ve taken the first step towards allowing better access to the information BP has about this spill."(image)

IF I CAN DREAM - Online Version of American Idol?

Fri, 18 Dec 2009 23:35:01 Z

(image) IF I CAN DREAM is the first of a new generation of post reality entertainment.IF I CAN DREAM will give viewers a documentary-like look at what it takes to achieve success and recognition in Hollywood in 2010. The viewer will watch as an initial group of five young people - a musician, an actor, two actresses and a model - leave their hometowns and live together high up in the Hollywood Hills. Their every move will be streamed live online as they rehearse, write music, socialize and plan their careers. Innovative camera and sensor technology will allow a global audience to interact with the aspiring performers through text, blogs, MySpace, twitter and facebook as the action unfolds in real-time--something that has never been attempted on a global scale before.

The opinions and points of view of the viewing audience will be recorded through blogs and video messages on www.ificandream.com allowing the aspiring performers to test ideas, rehearse and audition in front of their audience. As the experience evolves, the community around IF I CAN DREAM will introduce new hopefuls, as well as visitors and other participants. In this way IF I CAN DREAM will become an interactive cultural experiment, opening up the American Dream and democratizing the process of the making of a star.
IF I CAN DREAM will open doors, as the aspiring performers will be given access to the best acting, vocal, music and modeling coaches in the business, but it will be up to each member to walk through the doors.

The storyline of IF I CAN DREAM will be driven by the real life narrative of the lives of the individual members, so when one of them leaves - to go on tour, to shoot a part in a movie, because they've been dropped or simply because they want out - their place will be taken by a new hopeful who will be chosen by the public via an open audition process.

IF I CAN DREAM is supposed to go live early 2010. Until then, sweet dreams.

UFC 104: Machida vs. Shogun Live Online

Thu, 22 Oct 2009 02:24:11 Z

It’s been more than two years, but the Ultimate Fighting Championship® (UFC®) is finally bringing world-class mixed martial arts back to California, and when the lights go down for the main event of UFC 104 on Saturday, October 24th, fans will witness a battle between two of the most dynamic fighters ever to set foot in the world-famous Octagon™, as Brazil’s Lyoto “The Dragon” Machida defends his UFC light heavyweight title for the first time against his countryman and fellow superstar Mauricio “Shogun” Rua. Also waging war at STAPLES Center in Los Angeles on the UFC 104: Machida vs Shogun card, which is presented by TapouT, will be a clash between two of the heavyweight division’s top rising stars, unbeaten Cain Velasquez and UFC newcomer “Big” Ben Rothwell.“It’s been two years since the UFC was in Southern California and we knew we had to bring something special for our return to the capital of mixed martial arts,” said UFC President Dana White. “Lyoto Machida captured the imagination of fight fans with his knockout of Rashad Evans, and while he seems unbeatable right now, Mauricio “Shogun” Rua not only has the tools to beat any 205-pounder in the world, but he’s coming off a knockout of Chuck Liddell in his last fight, so his confidence is sky-high. This has the potential to be one of the greatest light heavyweight title fights ever.”A man that remains a mystery to every opponent he’s faced in his mixed martial arts career is Lyoto “The Dragon” Machida (fighting out of Belem, Brazil). With a perfect 15-0 record and three finishes in his last three fights, the 31-year-old Brazilian has dominated the UFC light heavyweight division. His highlight-reel second-round knockout of undefeated Rashad Evans not only captured the UFC light heavyweight belt, but established Machida as an international superstar. With an unorthodox style and a Machida Karate black belt, Machida remains one of the hardest targets to hit in the Octagon™. The lifelong martial artist also holds a black belt in Brazilian jiu-jitsu and is dangerous anywhere the fight goes.“I’m honored to be making my first title defense in Los Angeles,” Machida said. “The fact that I get to fight someone as respected as Shogun is an honor as well. My last fight before I won the title was against Thiago Silva, so I know how tough my fellow Brazilians are. I’m training extremely hard for this matchup and I’m looking forward to a great fight.”A fighter that has faced the best in the world throughout his career, Mauricio “Shogun” Rua (fighting out of Curitiba, Brazil) has now made a name for himself in the UFC. With a “Fight of the Night” TKO victory over UFC Hall of Famer Mark Coleman at UFC 93 and a devastating first-round TKO over another Hall of Famer, Chuck “The Iceman” Liddell, Rua has positioned himself as the No. 1 contender for the UFC light heavyweight title. At only 27 years old, “Shogun” has already compiled an 18-3 professional record, including wins over former UFC light heavyweight champion Quinton “Rampage” Jackson, Kevin Randleman and Ricardo Arona.“I feel very happy about fighting for the UFC belt,” Rua said. “It’s a huge opportunity in my career and in my life, and having this chance gets me closer to reaching my career’s ultimate goal and my life’s biggest dream. It's a Beautiful Day! Live Webcast of U2 Concert at Rose Bowl Stadium

Tue, 20 Oct 2009 16:46:21 Z

(image) No bloody Sunday this upcoming Sunday:

U2 have confirmed via video blog that their sold-out concert at the Pasadena Rose Bowl in California, this Sunday, 25th October, will be streamed free, in full and live on YouTube. It's the first time a show of this size will be streamed live.

The Rose Bowl show is the penultimate U2 show this year - with more to come in 2010 - and already is set to host the venue's biggest ever audience of over 96,000 fans. The 360° Tour, which has been critically acclaimed and 're-invents rock'n'roll' (Rolling Stone Magazine), will now boast unique access for fans worldwide - as fans in territories yet to be visited by the tour, or not at all, will be able to enjoy the whole show online.

Managed in partnership with Live Nation, this sell-out tour has broken attendance records in most venues it has visited - its success due in part to increased capacity coupled with a lower ticket price and great sight lines afforded by the stunning in-the-round stage set.
U2 manager Paul McGuinness said, 'The band has wanted to do something like this for a long time. As we're filming the LA show, it's the perfect opportunity to extend the party beyond the stadium. Fans often travel long distances to come to see U2 - this time U2 can go to them, globally.'

YouTube will be streaming live across five continents. The show will be available in the usual You Tube way, as video-on-demand, following two full replays - after the live stream - on both U2.com and You Tube.

The concert livestream is available 8:30pm PT in the following countries: US, UK, France, Canada, Italy, Spain, Japan, Brazil, Australia, NZ, Ireland, Mexico, India, Israel, South Korea, and Netherlands.

Is the livestream "Even Better Than The Real Thing"? Certainly not, but it's one of the "Sweatest Thing"s YouTube's done in a while.

Check it out!(image)

Australian Open - 480+ Hours Live on Broadband

Tue, 08 Jan 2008 00:00:00 Z

The tennis season will begin with unprecedented coverage of the Australian Open, the first Grand Slam of the year: 137 hours of coverage on ESPN2, as well as more than 480 hours - all live, with users choosing between action on six courts - on broadband ESPN360.com. Play will begin on ESPN2 and ESPN360.com on Sunday, Jan. 13 at 7 p.m. ET and will continue through the women's and men's finals Friday, Jan. 25, and Sunday, Jan. 27, respectively. ESPN has televised the Australian Open since 1984; last year's women's final drew ESPN2's best tennis rating ever, a 1.9 for Serena Williams' victory over Maria Sharapova. In addition, where appropriate ESPN's SportsCenter and ESPNEWS will endeavor live look-ins to the action; ESPN Deportes has a greatly increased Spanish-language schedule; and ESPN International has expanded rights. ESPN360.com will expand its broadband coverage to include no fewer than six live feeds from various courts - including the women's, men's and mixed doubles finals - plus a simulcast of ESPN2's live coverage, totaling more than 480 hours. For the first 11 days (Jan. 13 - 23), coverage will commence at 7 p.m. (11 a.m. in Melbourne, when play begins). The courts to be included are the "TV courts," the ones most likely to have top matches: Rod Laver Arena, Vodafone Arena, Margaret Court Arena, plus Courts 2, 3 and 6. Coverage will be the "world feed" from the host broadcaster, with graphics, natural sound and no commentary. For the remainder of the tournament, ESPN360.com will continue the ESPN2 simulcast, and will carry the women's (Jan. 24), men's (Jan. 25) and mixed (Jan. 26) doubles finals. Each window of coverage will be available for on-demand replay following its completion. With ESPN360.com's dynamic new interface, tennis fans will be able to fast-forward, rewind and pause action - during both on-demand replay and live action coverage. The coverage is part of ESPN360.com's most robust monthly schedule ever. In January, the broadband network will deliver at least 390 live sports events, including its 100th event since the September 4 relaunch. Will Ferrell Releases New Video 'Good Cop, Baby Cop'

Fri, 22 Jun 2007 00:00:00 Z

Will Ferrell and his 2 year-old co-star Pearl from FunnyorDie.com's award-winning video "The Landlord," will reunite once again in "Good Cop, Baby Cop," an exclusive new video premiering Monday, June 25 at (8:00 PM) on Funny or Die, the funniest place on the web. In the video, Ferrell portrays "Angel," a hard-nosed criminal who refuses to cooperate with the police, leaving them no choice but to call in their toughest lieutenant -- a baby cop, known in the precinct as "The Confession Machine."

Funny or Die is a new video website that launched in April of 2007 and is already one of the most visited comedy sites on the web. A key ingredient of the site's success is its focus on a new genre of content: the raw and experimental look and feel of user-generated video, turbocharged with celebrity talent. "The Landlord," a video featuring Funny or Die founders Will Ferrell and Adam McKay has been viewed over 35 million times.

"Good Cop, Baby Cop" marks Pearl's farewell performance. The 2 year-old, who rose to stardom following "The Landlord's" debut on Funny or Die this past April, is retiring.

"My ventures as an actor on the internet have been rewarding and spiritually fulfilling, but now I must look to broader challenges as I approach my 26th month," says Pearl. "I shall always reflect upon these days with much fondness, and also, I have no idea what I just said, and I want banana-nana and the upside down show."

The full 4 minute 3 second video "Good Cop Baby Cop" can only be seen at Funny or Die.(image)
