Taking your smart phone and money management

Tue, 25 Jul 2017 16:59:22 GMT

Hi all Phone: I'm desperate to take my iphone 6+ but I'm concerned about theft. If i take a cheaper/older Android essentially the same threat applies. I last backpacked (for almost 5 straight years in 1987-1992) and I got by just fine with no phone and far fewer plans than I'm making this time around. (Back then, no one could threaten me for a PIN or fingerprint like they could today - so much for progress!) So I either hide my 6+ or Android ... Getting serious about traveling

Sat, 22 Jul 2017 17:31:50 GMT

Hey everybody! This year has really made me realize that life is short and I'd like to do something that I've always wanted to do: travel. There are a couple problems, though. I really don't have (nor have I ever had) anyone who has the same passion as I do, so I'm pretty inexperienced. I've been thinking about maybe going to Australia or New Zealand next summer when I get the chance. I've had a couple people recommended them to ... Hi, I'm travelling in Australia, by myself, between november and march. I was wondering what would be a nice place to spend the holidays? I don't have an itinary yet, so I'm pretty flexible about locations :) Sydney would be the obvious choice, but I'm looking for some other options. I'm a 30 year old, female solo traveller. Thanks in advance for the advice, it's much appreciated. ... [Posted by kathschroeyers, in the Australia / New Zealand & The Pacific Forum - Jul 22, 02:10]

How to get rid of those "New Blog Comment" e-mails?

Sat, 22 Jul 2017 09:10:15 GMT

The question is already in the title... I have turned off all e-mail notifications that can be turned off, but I am still showered with mails whenever there are new comments in my blogs, and I see no way to turn these off. Thanks for the service, but I do not need them. If I want to know whether there are new comments, then I check my blogs in here. I know that there is a "Notify me of future comments ... From Nepal to Tibet

Sat, 22 Jul 2017 01:51:23 GMT

I was looking at google maps today and i saw there is a road between Kathmandu and Lhasa. Is it possible to visit Tibet via Nepal. Is it possible to get a visum for example to Visit Tibet arriving from Nepal? For example if you do this by a Chinese official tour-operator with the obligatory guide? Can this be arranged, so that you will get your guide at the Tibet border? Just wondering.... ... [Posted by ger4444, in the Asia Forum - Jul 21, 17:51]

Safety on bus from Tanzania (Arusha) to Kenya (Nairobi)?

Fri, 21 Jul 2017 21:47:42 GMT

Hello to all. I will be travelling with friends to Tanzania and I was thinking of possibly extending my stay and crossing on my own (woman) from Tanzania (Arusha) to Kenya (Nairobi) to visit a friend. Do you know whether this could be challenging/not a secure option? I have had contradictory opinions, some suggesting me to fly instead. Also does anyone know how the situation looks like in Nairobi, now that Kenya is approaching the elections? Also cholera-wise...? Thank you! ... How has your travel style changed?

Fri, 21 Jul 2017 17:16:21 GMT

After reading over and thinking about the thread on What Travel Style You Can't Wrap Your Head Around , I realize that I have had different travel styles at different times in my life and that it also varies a bit by the reason for the travel. Is this the same for you? Giving examples: As a child, I went where my parents took me. No planning whatever on my part. We sometimes drove around the western US and camped, and ... I'm travelling alone to New Zealand on the 28th August on a working holiday visa. I have already spent the past two years in Australia on a working holiday visa which was amazing.
