East Texan hoping to bring Arena football to Tyler

If East Texas native Jon Lyles can execute his plan of attack, then Tyler will be home to an arena football team by 2019. There have been several other attempts to bring indoor football to the region, but they have been widely unsuccessful. Lyles though seems to have his ducks in a row. It also doesn't hurt the Arp native is an arena football guru.

Longview retires Trent Williams' #71 jersey

At every level of football, East Texan Trent Williams has been one of the best in the game. During his time at Longview the offensive tackle was named all-state, at Oklahoma Williams earned All-America honors, and so far with the Redskins the star lineman has made five Pro-Bowls. Tuesday night, Williams received another honor as Lobos head coach John King and Longview ISD retired Williams' number 71 jersey during the programs spring game.

Nearly a week ago on May 8th, around 300 fans followed Tony Romo at a U.S. Open local qualifier in Aledo, Texas. The former Cowboys quarterback failed to finish in the top seven, and therefore no longer has a chance to play in the PGA Tour's major championship in mid-June. An East Texan did make the cut in Aledo, and is one step away from playing on golf's biggest stage.

The newly established UIL pitch count may have started to effect teams already in just the second round of the playoffs. More one game series are happening in the Area Championship, as pitchers have to stretch 110 pitches throughout a three game series.

Mike Meador out as Lindale head coach and athletic director

In breaking news Tuesday night, a source close to the situation has confirmed to KLTV Sports, that Mike Meador is out as the Lindale head football coach and athletic director. The job opening has been posted on the Lindale ISD Web site. Meador has guided the Eagles the past 11 years.

The Mount Pleasant product was cut by the 49ers after their three-day session. Luckily for Cannon though, the Jets are giving him a second chance to make a roster.

The UT Tyler softball team will host a three-team NCAA Division III regional tournament this weekend with Texas Lutheran and La Verne coming in to play at Suddenlink Field. The Patriots (39-4) are the top seed in the West Region and earned the at-large bid and hosting rights to their 10th straight regional tournament.

According to APEC director Bobby Stroupe, former Longview Lobo and undrafted free agent Jordan Burton has signed with the Bears. That means now 14 players either from East Texas or that have ties to region from the 2017 draft class are getting a chance to play in the NFL.

Its postseason time for the third ranked UT-Tyler baseball team. The Patriots are hosting the blue bracket of the American Southwest Conference tournament this weekend, and open things up Friday night against Louisiana college. Concordia and Mary-Hardin Baylor are the other two teams coming to town. No one holds a candle to UT-Tyler's dominant pitching, which is a big reason why the Patriots claimed the ASC regular season title.
