Imagine scoring 63 points in a football game and it's still not good enough to win. That unfortunately is the tough reality Lufkin had to embrace last Friday night against Beaumont West Brook, as the Panthers suffered their second loss in district. Lufkin went down 70-63. In a game in which 19 touchdowns were made, you have to wonder where the defense is.

Tyler Junior College hosts Region XIV media day

In the middle of all this football talk, we can't ignore the fact that basketball season is fast approaching. Stephen F. Austin held its media day last week, and on Tuesday it was Region XIV's turn. Tyler Junior College hosted the event at Wagstaff Gymnasium, where the conference preseason poll was revealed in front of the coaches from each school.

Alto shows off Class 2A power

When it comes to small school football, Alto is the king. The Yellowjackets have eight undefeated seasons, 16 10-win seasons, and two state titles. So when I tell you the sting is off to a 4-1 start, that is nothing new. But the Class 2A power just beat rival and Class 4A opponent Rusk. That is a pretty big deal.

At the Division I level, Greg Ward Jr. has been named the American Athletic Conference offensive player of the week. The former John Tyler Lion and Houston quarterback threw for over 320 yards and accounted for three total touchdowns in last Thursday's win.

Stephen F. Austin and McNeese resumed what has become one of the Southland Conference’s most underrated rivalries Saturday night, exchanging blow for blow at Cowboy Stadium. But in the end, it was the Lumberjacks that delivered the knockout, rallying to defeating the Cowboys 31-28 in both teams’ SLC opener.

It's been a great start for Gladewater, who packed their non district schedule with 4 teams from the District of Doom; including Carthage, Kilgore, Center, and Chapel Hill.  While we can't know for sure how things would have ended with Carthage, thanks to mother nature. We do know how things ended every other week, with the Bears on top.  "We got some pretty good wins under us against some really good teams. I feel like that boost your confidence up as well ...

A pair of undefeated teams from Class 4A Division I are set to meet in our Red Zone Game of the Week. 12th ranked Van and Palestine are both 3-0 on the year and will tangle for the third consecutive season..
