On the road with the Pugsley

Fri, 24 Feb 2017 18:08:16 GMT

A coolish February day in the 30s, yesterday, but our recent thaw has left the pavement dry, so I had a nice long 27 mile ride on the Surly Pugsley, including three miles of rather squishy dirt road. Image: http://i64.tinypic.com/2149yqa.jpg Yup, the Pugsley is a fat bike, so what am I doing...

Earbuds

Fri, 24 Feb 2017 00:01:09 GMT

When I ride on a paved trail, I like to use headphones. I hate the apple earbuds as they just don't fit me well. So I am curious what you all use for earbuds. I don't use them when I ride on the streets!! Thanks

Can I change my rear cassette to get lower gearing?

Tue, 21 Feb 2017 22:03:49 GMT

Hi, Tech. question here. My Trek Pilot currently has a 12-25 cassette (10 speed) in back with Ultegra derailleur. It's a triple in front (I think it's 30/42/52 but haven't actually counted). In lieu of springing for a new road bike right now, I would really like to change out the cassette for...

Strongly recommended. We spent...

Non-cycling Road Rash

Tue, 21 Feb 2017 13:36:04 GMT

I should put this in health, but really, it belongs under the clutz section. On Saturday, I took my dogs down to the Point. The area in Beaufort with all the historic homes. It's a nice place to walk, and there is little traffic. I'm down to two dogs, and only one of the 3 Bostons I had up...

cycling, coping and moving beyond cocoon-bubble

Sun, 19 Feb 2017 17:53:19 GMT

Only until a few days ago, I returned to baby distance bike rides since we had some huge snowfalls and very cold temp. ---25 to wind chill -30 degrees C. With the exception of commenters on my personal blog, Teamestrogen forums and another male-dominant American, dominant Internet forum for...

How am I supposed to go as fast as my friends?

Sun, 19 Feb 2017 02:43:23 GMT

I only ride this group of friends for things like the St Paul Classic or Minneapolis Tour of the Lakes, where speed isn't an issue. I don't ride with them for any other events because I am too slow. But take a look at their physique compared to mine. I feel like a elementary school child out...

Vehicle for transporting bike???

Sun, 19 Feb 2017 02:22:47 GMT

I haven't been around for a while. My SO hadn't been feeling well since last July and finally towards the end of December was diagnosed with Stage 4 Cancer. He passed away January 21. I am doing well and getting my life back in order. I really am looking forward to riding my bicycle again . . ....

Small Surly Ogre

Wed, 15 Feb 2017 00:56:23 GMT

Someone just posted a used Surly Ogre in a size small. It's either 900 or 950 dollars. The thing has Rabbit Hole wheels. Guys, those wheels are 600 new, without the tires. I didn't realize an Ogre would even take rabbit holes! They are very wide. Midfat. I think 50 mm across if memory serves. It's...

I wish I was this guys cat.

Sun, 12 Feb 2017 04:21:35 GMT

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cofNVuXgjsA I love animals but hey, move over cat. That looks too yummy. Geeze here I thought I was extravagant with my cats and dogs. This is way over the top.

Ankle pain (OMG not again)

Tue, 07 Feb 2017 21:10:35 GMT

I am somewhat freaking out. Back in the early 1990s (when I lived in cities and walked a lot) I had a problem with the posterior tibial tendon in my right ankle. Basically pain on the inside of the ankle, for years, and eventually having surgery in 1993. There was no acute injury; the problem with...

Jump from a plane? (or just ride your bike!)

Mon, 06 Feb 2017 17:09:28 GMT

What’s on your bucket list? Is it to spend a whole week cycling with friends through gorgeous scenery? Or do you want to kick it up a notch and try skydiving? You can do it all at Cycle Massachusetts (http://www.cyclema.com), the famous statewide charity tour that is also known as the...

Chamois most similar to Sugoi's Formula FXE?

Fri, 03 Feb 2017 21:19:19 GMT

I have a sneaking suspicion that Sugoi may be discontinuing the bib version of their RSE short. Bummer, 'cause I love that chamois and prefer bibs. Can anyone recommend a chamois similar to the FXE one in women's bibs? It has super dense padding under the sit bones, but it's a lot more minimal...

CTT - Cycle Touring Tantrums

Thu, 02 Feb 2017 15:15:48 GMT

OMG, I laughed and giggled reading the 2017 February Adventure Cyclist. This will be a long post but wanted to share as so many of us have been both the giver and receiver while touring. CYCLE TOURING TANTRUMS: TWO CASE STUDIES BY DAVE HENLEY With regards to the debilitating condition...
