Simoebic Dysentery for Mac
(image) Happily going about your business of parasitism inside some unfortunate fellow’s body. You float through the blood stream, looking for nutrients, avoiding phages and antibiotics, and trying to (literally) divide and conquer. The game is currently divided into 7 “levels” of increasing difficulty, with eventual plans of many more. Each level ends with a “target cell”, much like the flag at the end of a Super Mario level, full of nutrients to allow you to continue your journey. Simoebic Dysentery was voted Most Creative Game, and won a bronze for Best Sound in the 2008 uDevGames Mac Game contest (which ended in March of 2009, but who's counting?) The origin of the idea, and where it's going: Simoebic Dysentery was a team effort, with myself and King Thor of Thoronia collaborating on design and execution of the game itself, and Ms. Liaht Rosenstein acting as our science consultant. King Thor and I have many ideas and plans for the actual finished version of the game, most of which is laid out in more detail on the Mojiferforums. Notes about the beta version: The current build of Simoebic Dysentery is still classified as a beta/RC, and you should be aware of this fact before downloading… The initial game load is painfully slow, mostly because I insist on loading the entire uncompressed soundtrack into memory, and partially because the current build was finished and released with less than two days of testing. When playing SD, you will probably encounter bugs, crashes, and the occasional control issue, please feel free to report any bugs to me at mojiferous@mojiferous.com. Currently, you control your amoeba with WASD, and lyse or "pop" cells with the space bar. Good luck! Features: 1. Sound! 2. Graphics! 3. Amoebic fun! 4. Soon to be finished(!?) Tag:

Ultima III for Mac
(image) LairWare's Ultima III is a modern Macintosh update of a classic computer fantasy role playing game which helped define the genre. Create a party of four adventurers, slay wandering evil beasts, and talk to townspeople to find out about the evil that has come over the once-peaceful land of Sosaria. Hear the villagers speak to you with speech synthesis, and a beautiful original soundtrack accompanies you on your journeys. Ultima III inspired dozens (at least!) of knock-offs that used the same concepts. With each Ultima, the bar was raised for the role-playing standard. No matter how the video game industry tries to compensate for a lack of good gameplay in their titles with 3D graphics, digital video, and full DVD installs, they just can't capture the addictive simplicity of role playing pioneers like Ultima III. Features: -Smooth full screen operation -Original music soundtrack and speech -Automatic combat and healing -Use standard graphics or select Apple II, Commodore, Mac B&W, Console, and PC variations -'Classic' mode for old timers Tag:

Walthros
(image) Walthros is an alien planet largely inhabited by a variety of lifeforms that resemble animals from Earth. At some distant point in the planet's history, there was a great conflict that was ended when one of the principle players unleashed a power that destroyed most of the known world. When the game opens, life has largely recovered. Unfortunately, old conflicts have been reborn, and war continues to rage. This continuing violence begins to awaken a sentient force that has been dormant since the great disaster that so deeply wounded the planet. Players take the role of Bob Surlaw, a Walthrosian Fish who makes a living as an explorer of ancient ruins. His journey begins when he leaves his home one morning to explore a nearby shrine that has long been sealed. Inside, he finds an angry spirit and a piece of an ancient relic. Bob Surlaw's quest to make sense of the strange events that have been affecting the world takes him across continents and to other worlds. Along the way he meets a great number of allies who aid him in his quest to set things right again, including the heroic team known as Dinosaur Triple and the demented Super Walrus Man. Tag:

Ara Fell 2k3
(image) Ara fell is a game concept I've been toiling around with for some time. It started in the winter of 2005 and resulted in the freeware RPG "Ara Fell: The Legend of Dirisetsu Hollow" for RPG Maker 2003, released Q4 of that year. Since then, I was forced to give up on the project, unable to continue the additional six episodes of the seven part series. No additional installments of Ara Fell have been made, and the first episode remains the stand-alone project in the series. It is intended to be a stylistic game that relies heavily on atmosphere and aesthetics, as well as focusing on gameplay and story. Upon its initial release, many problems, glitches and other issues arose that had gone unaddressed for some time. Now, these errors have been fixed, new content has been added and the required Run Time Package for RPG Maker 2003 has been removed. It can be played on any PC and on any windows operating system beyond 95. Give it a try and I hope you're able to enjoy it! Tag:

A secret organisation whose mission no less is to direct the course of history. You have been ordered to carry out their plans many times in the past. However this time it is different. The Majestic Group has gone too far and many of its operatives are dead or missing. The Majestic Group has lost contact with Omega Labs, a research facility it has hidden near a town called Idyll. Your mission is to enter the town, find out what happened and eliminate any threats. THE OMEGA SYNDROME is a new type of computer game. The Restaurant Game
(image) The Restaurant Game is a research project at the MIT Media Lab that will algorithmically combine the gameplay experiences of thousands of players to create a new game. In a few months, we will apply machine learning algorithms to data collected through the multiplayer Restaurant Game, and produce a new single-player game that we will enter into the Independent Games Festival. Everyone who plays The Restaurant Game will be credited as a Game Designer. It's never been easier to earn Game Designer credentials! All contributions are not equal, however. Designers will be ranked based on how well they play their assigned roles, and accomplish their objectives. There will be only one Lead Designer. Remaining credits will be divided into Game Designers and Assistant Game Designers, and within each category individuals will be ranked according to the quality of their performance(s). Quality will be determined computationally, based on a number of factors. The Restaurant Game takes about 10 minutes to play. It is a two-player game that will automatically find partners for players once you join a server. You are encouraged to play multiple times. In order for this project to be at all successful, we will need to collect a lot of data -- data from over 10,000 gameplay sessions. Play early, play often, and please spread the word! This project attempts to address two frustrations I experienced as a professional game developer. 1) Convincing human social behavior is difficult to model with existing hand crafted AI systems. 2) Play testing by people outside of the development team typically comes too late to have a major impact on the final product. This experiment aims to generate AI behaviors that conform to the way players actually choose to interact with other characters and the environment; behaviors that are convincingly human because they capture the nuances of real human behavior and language.
