Current Mortgage Rates Today – Wells Fargo and Bank of America Make Changes

(Best Syndication News) Mortgage rates edged higher today as lenders continue to adjust their products to the changing secondary lending market (see charts below). stocks were mixed as the Dow Jones Industrial Average (DJIA) moved lower and the S&P 500 and NASDAQ gained ground.

The average 30-year fixed rate mortgage (FRM) jumped 11 basis points (bps) in one day. The average 30-year rate is now 4.264 percent (see the chart below). The most common mortgage product has climbed 60 bps over the last 100 days.

Freddie Mac (FHLMC) has not updated their 30-year required net yield rate (RNY) for over one week, but this secondary lending factor has been steadily increasing as well. Fannie Mae (FNMA) raised their 30-year 60-year RNY rate one basis point on Tuesday.

The popular Captain Underpants book series has been around for over 15 years. Since the first book, which was published in September 1997, over 50 million books in the series have been printed for distribution in North America. New Chairperson of San Bernardino County Board of Supervisors

(Best Syndication News) The Board of Supervisors (BOS) took a vote on Tuesday and unanimously elected Supervisor Gary Ovitt as Vice Chair and Janice Rutherford as Chairman of the Board. Fifth District Supervisor Josie Gonzalez has been the Board Chair for the past two years.

Rutherford, whose second district encompasses parts of Fontana, Rancho Cucamonga, and the mountain resorts, called the election a privilege. “The Board has made tremendous strides over the past two years to focus on the County Vision and to restore public faith in County Government,” Rutherford said.

Recall announced for Personal Handheld Air Misters sold at Target Stores

(Best Syndication News) - The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) announced the voluntary recall of around 168,000 handheld air misters sold at Target stores nationwide. The product is being recalled because the unit can shatter and cause potential lacerations.

The handheld air misters were imported by Target Corp. (NYSE:TGT) and were sold at their stores nationwide between February 2012 and May 2012 for around $2.50. Target announced the recall after receiving three reports of the air misters shattering. One of the reports involved a person being cut.

Lower GPAs and Higher Graduation rates when Parents help pay for College

(Best Syndication News) - Researchers found that students who got financial help from their parents when attending college were more likely to graduate, but with lower grade point averages (GPAs). The study results will be published in the February issue of the American Sociological Review.

Laura T. Hamilton, a sociology professor at the University of California, Merced, studied what impact financial assistance from parents had on students’ grades and graduation rates. The good news is that parents who supported their child financially in college were best at avoiding serious academic trouble. However, at the same time earning good grades also diminished.

Bugaboo Stroller recall announced for Carry Handle Replacement

(Best Syndication News) - Bugaboo Cameleon and Bugaboo Donkey Model Strollers are being recalled because the carrying handle could fail. The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission and Health Canada have announced the voluntary recall of around 46,300 strollers in the U.S. and 4,440 in Canada.

The importer, Bugaboo Americas, announced the recall after receiving 58 reports that the carrying handle detaching unexpectedly. No injuries were reported to the company.

A button in the handle could break loose posing a choking hazard and the handle could detach unexpectedly causing the child to fall. Replacing the carrying handle is expected to prevent potential choking hazards and fall dangers. Bugaboo International B.V., located in Amsterdam, The Netherlands, is the manufacturer of the Bugaboo strollers.

The new app will offer entertainment glass-bottomed jet viewing while in flight and a more practical trip-planning itinerary checklist. The airline has invested around $140 million in technology improvements, including a revamping of their Delta.com website in November 2012. The company has also made improvements to their self-service kiosks last September.

John Deere Gator Utility Vehicle recalled for repair

(Best Syndication News) - The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) announced the voluntary recall of John Deere Gator™ RSX850i Base, Sport, and Trail model utility vehicles because the fuel line could come apart and become a potential fire danger. John Deere dealers will be offering a free inspection and repair to remedy this problem.

Around 4,650 of the John Deere Gator Utility vehicles are involved in the recall. Deere and Company (NYSE:DE) received three reports of the fuel line separating, with no injuries involved. The vehicles were sold between August 2012 and October 2012 by John Deere dealers at a cost between $12,900 and $15,500.

Fisher-Price Recall announced for Rock ‘N Play Infant Sleepers

(Best Syndication News) - The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) announced a voluntary recall, on behalf of Fisher-Price Inc., of around 800,000 Newborn Rock ‘N Play Sleepers do to possible mold exposure. Consumers who have an infant sleeper involved in the recall that has mold should stop using the unit. The recall does not include current units that are on store shelves.

The recalled infant sleepers were sold at mass merchandise retail stores nationally and online since September 2009. They retailed between $50 and $85. Additionally, only the products that have mold are being recalled. The Rock ‘N Play sleepers came in 14 different patterns and colors and were designed for babies weighing up to 25 pounds. A metal rocking frame suspends the soft plastic seat. A fabric cover is removable.

San Bernardino Public Library brings Civil War History to Life

(Best Syndication News) - The San Bernardino Public Library will be hosting a Civil War re-enactment celebrating 150 years since Abraham Lincoln signed the Emancipation Proclamation. The library will have free “living history” programs throughout the month of January to bring history alive.

On January 12, 2013, between 10 a.m. until 4 p.m., the Feldheym Central Library (located at 555 W. 6th Street in San Bernardino) will have American Civil War Society members dressed up as Confederate Soldiers, Union Soldiers, and Civilian Corps from the Civil War era. The American Civil War Society is one of the largest nonprofit groups to reenact this particular historical period in California. The group will also have re-enactors portraying Abraham Lincoln, Mary Todd Lincoln, General and Mrs. Ulysses S. Grant, and General Robert E. Lee. This is a family friendly event and is intended to educate students about Civil War history.

This is not the first stamp issued by the U.S. Postal Service commemorating the Emancipation Proclamation anniversary.
