Anthony Nero , 28, of South Thrasher Avenue, Homosassa, at 3:36 a.m. Nov. 14 on felony charges of battery on a law enforcement officer and resisting an officer with violence, along with misdemeanor charges of threatening a law enforcement officer, driving with a suspended license, and leaving the scene of an accident. According to his arrest affidavit, Nero crashed his vehicle into a Homosassa home.

New RaceTrac close to opening

Folks have been watching the construction of the new RaceTrac at State Road 44 and County Road 491 take shape for months. The gas station/convenience store on the southwest corner of that intersection is scheduled to debut in early to mid December.

Senator to seek sewer funds

State Sen. Wilton Simpson, R-Trilby, said 30-40 percent of the pollution flowing into Citrus County's rivers and springsheds is from septic systems. If something is not done to get people off septic and hooked to central sewer, Simpson said further degradation of the waterways will result and jeopardize the work from ongoing springs restoration projects.

Armed robber gets 30 years

Xavier Jamal Lockley, the Homosassa man who mugged a man trying to stop him from robbing a local gas station at gunpoint, was sentenced Thursday morning to 30 years in prison. Agreeing to a negotiated plea deal just prior to being sentenced, 28-year-old Lockley pleaded no contest to a lesser charge of robbery with a weapon, attempted robbery with a deadly weapon and battery, according to court documents.

Dog population returns below capacity at shelter

The county lifted free adoptions Wednesday after the shelter adopted more than 50 dogs over the weekend, bringing the number of dogs at the facility below capacity. Animal Services Director Morgan Woodward said in an email to the Chronicle that the shelter is now housing 90 dogs, of which seven were expected to be picked up by new owners Wednesday.
