The Mesa County Coroner's Office is asking for help in locating relatives for Stephon Alderson, a 55-year-old man who was found dead near Dike Road close to the Pepsi-Cola Bottling Co. behind the Safeway on Broadway.

BLM proposes oil, gas leasing near Loma

Large swaths of acreage below the Bookcliffs north of Mack and Loma would be leased for oil and gas development in December along with other parcels in Mesa and Garfield counties under a proposal by the Bureau of Land Management. Altogether, the BLM is proposing to offer 28 parcels involving about 27,280 acres of federal minerals.

Two California residents were in Mesa County Court on Thursday, advised of possible drug distribution charges after law enforcement allegedly found 35 pounds of packaged marijuana in their vehicle late Wednesday night. The sheriff's deputy who initially stopped the pair's vehicle at the Mack exit of Interstate 70 said he saw Rutkowski driving when he first passed him, but it was Finnegan behind the wheel when he stopped the car.

BLM eyes leases on 30K acres

The Bureau of Land Management is seeking comments on requests to lease more than 22,000 acres in Mesa County for oil and gas drilling. The scoping also includes about 7,300 acres in Garfield County, bringing the total northwest Colorado lands included in the December lease sale to nearly 30,000 acres.
